Chapter 5 Want to be Lucas's Wife?
Henry's words hit Grace right in the feels. She shook, her lips trembling, and let out a bitter laugh, "Henry, have you ever seen a wife whose husband ditches her on their third wedding anniversary to be with another woman on her birthday? Have you ever seen a wife who has to go through her husband's secretary just to wear a piece of jewelry or a fancy dress? Henry, my dad had surgery yesterday! If it weren't for Lucas's money, my dad wouldn't have made it. Do you even know that? Where were you? You were with your lover!"
"Sure, you cover my daily expenses, let me live in a fancy villa, but that's just because the Windsor family fell, and it's your charity! That fireworks display yesterday must've cost more than three million dollars, right? Henry, I'm just someone you keep around. Every time I take your check, I feel like a tool, and that money feels like a handout." Grace almost shouted, her eyes red with emotion, "Henry, do you still think I'm your wife?"
Henry's eyes were cold as he looked at Grace, raising his hand to pinch her face, "Grace, do you think you're justified now? I had Celeste come over last night, but she said you refused. And what kind of life can you have without me? A woman like you who doesn't know how to please a man, can't even moan properly, just hums like a little kitten in bed, who would want you after a divorce? Lucas?"
Grace looked at him, said nothing, and turned to leave. But Henry got up and blocked her way, looking down at her face, "Grace, avoiding won't help. Weren't you just full of words a moment ago? Why aren't you saying anything now?"
"Are you afraid I'll go after Lucas?" Henry lowered his body, a mocking smile on his lips, and whispered in her ear, "You're making a fuss because of Elodie, aren't you? Be honest, isn't becoming my wife exactly what you planned?"
Grace looked at him, her body starting to tremble. Even now, he still believed that what happened back then was her plan.
Henry was about to continue speaking when his phone rang. He answered the call with a displeased expression; it was his grandmother, Seraphina Jones.
Seraphina's tone was very cheerful, "Henry, I miss Grace. When will you bring her back to see me? I want to eat the pastries Grace makes."
She couldn't help but cough twice while speaking.
Henry pondered for a moment, glanced at Grace, and then said, "Got it, Grandma. Grace and I are at the hospital now, we'll come by later."
Seraphina immediately responded happily, "Well, you two take care. Since it's about Grace's dad, make sure to handle it well. Don't let Grace suffer, or I won't forgive you."
From her tone, it was clear how much Seraphina liked Grace. Maybe that was also the reason Henry kept her around.
Seraphina's health was deteriorating, and if she knew Grace wanted a divorce, it might be a blow to her. He looked at Grace with a cold expression, "Grandma misses you. She's sick. If you want to make a fuss, wait until we get back."
Grace said nothing, just turned and walked towards the hospital room, with Henry following behind her.
Inside the hospital room, Clara's face lit up when she saw Henry. She quickly moved a chair and said gently, "Henry's here! Come and sit."
She waved at Grace, "Grace, pour some water. Since Henry's here, go home with him later, okay? I'll take care of your dad. Henry's been working hard, make sure to reward him well."
Grace didn't say anything, just glanced at Henry. She knew Clara ultimately wanted to rely on him.
Henry sat down and started chatting with Nathan. He was always so considerate, well-liked by the elders.
He wanted to use this opportunity to make Grace come to her senses, suggesting they turn the hospital room into a VIP room and get the best doctors. But Nathan refused, knowing what Grace was thinking. He had heard some of her words outside the room earlier.
"Henry, there's no need to make a fuss. Dr. Fitzwilliam is fine, he's our former neighbor and very attentive to me."
Henry understood the underlying meaning; his absence yesterday hadn't gone unnoticed, and he didn't press further, knowing he was indeed in the wrong yesterday.
But Celeste needed to be dealt with, for lying and hiding things. It seemed she had developed feelings that a secretary shouldn't have.
"Alright, I won't disturb you any longer. Grandma misses Grace, I'll take her to see her," Henry said.
Nathan waved with a smile, "Go ahead."
But after the two left the room, Nathan turned, the sunlight streaming through the window onto his slightly aged face. "Are they having a fight?"
Clara's body trembled as she looked at the peeled apple on the table. She picked it up and handed it over, "You're overthinking, Henry paid for your medication yesterday."
Nathan took the apple. "That money wasn't Henry's, you're still lying to me. Grace's eyes have changed, she used to have affection in her eyes when she looked at Henry, now, there's nothing."
Clara lowered her head, "Grace wants a divorce."
Nathan wasn't surprised, just sighed. He had a premonition, but he didn't expect it to happen so soon. "If she wants a divorce, let her. Oliver has already lost his freedom, I don't want her to lose hers too."
Clara said nothing.
Nathan looked at the content on the newspaper in his hand, lost in thought.
[Evergreen City business tycoon, spotted in Harmony City with another woman on his wife's birthday and their third wedding anniversary.]
Grace sat in the passenger seat, looking at the scenery passing by, saying nothing. Henry drove the Bentley, occasionally glancing at Grace.
In three years of marriage, Grace had rarely ridden in his car. In contrast, every time he went to Harmony City, Elodie loved to cling to him. He realized that in these three years, he had spent more time with Elodie than with Grace.
But Grace wanted to divorce? Ridiculous, after all the effort to become his wife, now she wanted to leave?
He hated her.
Grace wanted to leave because of Lucas, but she could only be Henry's. No one could take her away.
