Chapter 360 Sarah Slowly Opened Her eyes in the Dark
Oliver didn't pick up the call. He just hung up and rolled over, saying casually, "It's Zoey. She's been slacking off at work, even though she knows you just got back."
Sarah thought to herself, 'When men cheat, they become expert liars, and women turn into detectives.'
She didn't call him out. Instead, she said softly, "Work's important. Go ahead."
Her words were like a get-out-of-jail-free card. Oliver must've been really worried about the call because his previous interest vanished quickly. He probably felt a bit guilty and cleared his throat, "I'll go to the study to make a call."
Sarah gave a faint smile. After he left, she got up, straightened herself out, and walked into the living room.
The nannies were feeding Nicole her bottle.
At that moment, Sarah recognized them. They were transferred from Dawnstar and had taken care of Jacob before.
Seeing Sarah, the nannies greeted her respectfully, "Mrs. Windsor!"
These nannies had always been at Dawnstar, so they didn't know Nicole's background. They just assumed she was Oliver and Sarah's child. But hearing that Sarah was pregnant again, they couldn't help but gossip about how quickly Oliver wanted another kid.
Sarah softly said, "Let me hold her."
One of the nannies quickly handed Nicole over, saying, "Nicole hasn't seen you in a while. She missed you a lot. She was just fussing a moment ago."
Sarah guessed their misunderstanding but didn't explain. She held Nicole and fed her while observing. When it came to food, clothing, and other necessities, Oliver hadn't been stingy. Everything was top-notch, and Nicole was well taken care of.
Nicole drank her milk, blinking her eyes.
Sarah felt a mix of emotions, pressing her cheek against Nicole's. At the same time, she touched her still-flat belly, where another of Oliver's children was growing.
She felt lost, not knowing what to do next. She was only 25 years old.
The sound of a door opening from the study brought Sarah back to reality.
She continued feeding Nicole.
Oliver walked over. He was handsome and elegantly dressed, and the two nannies couldn't help but glance at him. He was used to such looks.
He walked up to Sarah and surprisingly touched Nicole's cheek, saying gently, "She sure can eat! Should we control the amount a bit? Otherwise, what if she grows into a chubby little girl?"
Sarah softly replied, "No way. She's only three months old!"
She knew he had called Ellie but didn't mention it.
One of the nannies joked, "She's still a baby, it's okay if she gets a bit chubby. Mr. Windsor loves all the kids Mrs. Windsor has."
Oliver's face turned awkward. He pulled his hand back, his voice going cold again, "Prepare dinner."
The nanny was startled. She noticed Oliver was unhappy but couldn't figure out what she had said wrong. She quietly turned to Sarah, hoping she'd smooth things over.
Sarah was making milk for Nicole. Hearing this, she carefully said, "Nicole isn't my child. A friend asked Mr. Windsor and me to take care of her."
The nanny immediately covered her mouth. She thought Nicole was Oliver's illegitimate daughter and admired Sarah for being so magnanimous.
That night, Sarah held Nicole to sleep.
Nicole was too young to remember things. She recognized Sarah's scent and treated her like a mother, very dependent on her.
Before sleep, she nuzzled against Sarah's chest. When she got hungry in the middle of the night, half-awake, she would shake her little head in Sarah's arms looking for something to eat. Oliver was quite uncomfortable with this and grabbed Nicole by the neck, wanting to throw her out.
Sarah stopped him. She placed Nicole back in her arms, gently rocking the bottle and soothing her. She said to Oliver, "She's not a kitten or a puppy, how can you grab her like that?"
Oliver didn't care much. He was about to say something when Sarah looked up and gave him a slight glance.
Under the light, wearing only a silk nightgown, Sarah was very alluring, especially since she was pregnant, giving her a more voluptuous charm.
Oliver swallowed his words.
He stroked Nicole's face, feeling a bit awkward, "Actually, the more I look at her, the cuter she is! It's just annoying when she cries."
Sarah didn't respond.
With anyone else, Oliver would have given up. But Sarah's cold demeanor only made Oliver more intrigued. It made him filled with desire, wanting to bring her all the precious treasures in the world just to make her smile.
Having a child around made it inconvenient for intimacy.
Oliver had a strong desire. He lay flat, and later, unable to bear it, took a cold shower. When he came out, Sarah and Nicole were already asleep.
His phone in his pocket rang again.
Oliver glanced at it. It was Ellie calling. He hung up, but she kept calling back. Finally, Oliver decided to meet her and clear things up.
He changed his clothes and, before leaving, gently kissed the corner of Sarah's mouth.
As the bedroom door closed, Sarah slowly opened her eyes in the dark.
