Chapter 228 Oliver, Let's Get a Divorce!
Sarah's face went ghost-white. She dropped her head, her fingers lightly brushing her belly. She couldn't wrap her head around the fact that there was a baby in there, and Oliver asked her whose kid it was.
Seriously, who else could it be? Lester?
For the past two years, Sarah had been head over heels for him, like she was under some kind of spell. But after seeing those pics of him locking lips with other girls, she knew he didn't give a damn about her.
Sarah wasn't dumb; she did some digging. Dylan's secretary was all cryptic, just telling her to steer clear of Oliver, saying he was bad news and had beef with Dylan. But did she listen? Nope. She went ahead and married Oliver a year ago.
Sarah didn't bother explaining. She curled up, hugging her belly like she was trying to shield the tiny life inside. She whispered to Oliver, "Do you even want this kid?"
That was a loaded question. Oliver stayed silent for what felt like forever, and Sarah knew he was doubting if it was his.
The safest bet? Not letting her have the baby. Even if it was his, he wouldn't let her keep it 'cause he wanted to stick it to Dylan.
Sarah curled up tighter, her voice barely a whisper. "Well, let's not have it."
A messed-up marriage, an unloved wife, a relationship where power was all one-sided. She couldn't protect the baby, and deep down, maybe she didn't want to have his kid either.
After saying that, Sarah looked up at Oliver. Her eyes were red and shiny with tears, but there was a stubborn glint that wasn't usually there.
'She knows everything!' Oliver thought.
Oliver's eyes were dark, like he was trying to figure her out. She stayed there, naked under the crystal light, like a lamb waiting for the slaughter.
After what felt like an eternity, Oliver asked coldly, "Have you slept with him?"
Sarah, her voice all nasally, shot back, "No!"
Reluctant to voice it, she couldn't deny a glimmer of hope persisted within her. Feeling humiliated, she continued, "I just wanted to know what it feels like to be truly loved. Oliver, do you even know what that feels like?"
Of course, Oliver knew, because Sarah loved him.
Suddenly, Oliver felt a sharp pain in his chest. Yeah, knowing she loved him, he still picked up the "knife," hurting her over and over in the name of love, ignoring her, watching her suffer.
Oliver thought he shouldn't go soft.
He looked at her, slowly moved closer, gently grabbed her arm, not letting her pull away.
He touched her from head to toe.
Finally, his warm hand rested on her still-flat belly. His touch was gentle, but his words were ice-cold. He stared into her eyes and said slowly, "At four months, we'll do an amniocentesis. If it's mine, we'll keep it."
Oliver didn't trust her!
Sarah's eyes went wide, her lips trembling. "Well then, let's not do it! Let's just get a divorce, Oliver!"
She even shoved his arm away, not letting him touch her.
Oliver stepped back, his gaze icy. After a moment, he grabbed her slender arm and easily lifted her, carrying her back to the big bed.
Sarah's delicate legs pressed against Oliver's dark pants, looking all sexy.
His belt buckle came undone, digging into her soft leg, leaving a nasty red mark. It looked pitiful, but Oliver didn't give a damn. He even locked eyes with her and said, "Doesn't matter whose kid it is, the one screwing you now is me!"
Oliver didn't care that she was pregnant. They went at it hard and loud.
The bed creaked like crazy, so much that the painting above the headboard fell off. Oliver shoved it aside, then yanked her body into his arms.
Sarah's eyes were blurred with tears, her vision getting fuzzier by the second.
In the past, he had ignored her, but he had never been this rough! He seemed totally unhinged!
Not only did Oliver possessed her, but he also inspected her, not missing a single spot, deliberately driving her nuts.
How could Sarah handle such rough treatment?
Eventually, Sarah cried herself unconscious.
Oliver stopped, pulled out, and lay beside her, covering his eyes with his hand. He panted, thinking about the madness that just happened. What really bugged him? Was it the beef with Dylan or the fact that Sarah might've been with someone else?
Sarah had been with Lester, and she looked so damn happy, just like when they first got together.
Was it that she could be like this with anyone, that he, Oliver, wasn't special? Was it the case that anyone who treated her well, who took her out for a good time, could win her over?
After a while, Oliver turned to look at the young Sarah.
He reached out and gently touched her face, then lightly touched her small belly, covering her with a blanket.
He got up, threw on a black robe, walked to the study, and made a call to Zoey, giving her some instructions.
Half an hour later, Zoey showed up with the best obstetrician in Vesper City.
The study door opened, and a faint smoke lingered inside.
Oliver sat under the bright light, looking stone-cold. When he saw Zoey come in, he barely raised his eyes and said, "Take the doc to check on her."
Zoey felt a mix of emotions. She nodded and took the doctor to check on Sarah. As soon as she opened the bedroom door, the strong smell of sex hit them, thick and dominating.
The doctor couldn't help but frown.
But she was getting paid big bucks, so she got to work. After examining Sarah, she said softly, "The baby is still very small, not even five weeks. Zoey, you should tell Mr. Windsor to chill for the first three months, preferably no sex."
The doctor paused and added, "Mrs. Windsor looks very young."
Zoey's mouth twitched, but she kept quiet. The doctor gave a few more instructions, took the check, and left, promising to come every week for Sarah's prenatal checkups.
Zoey saw the doctor off and went back to the study.
Oliver was still sitting behind the desk, the lamp in front of him bright, casting shadows. Zoey couldn't read Oliver's thoughts and said softly, "We found him. His name is Lester! He's in the basement now."
Oliver stood up and walked out first. He was tall and strong, with a long scar on the back of his neck, a reminder of his time in prison, a time that nearly cost him his life.
Zoey quickly followed.
In the basement, the young man named Lester had been beaten to a pulp, covered in blood.
