Chapter 207 He Watched Her to Be with Someone Else
The autumn air had that bite to it.
Grace snugged Owen's coat tighter around her. The fancy fabric brushed her face, and she caught a whiff of Owen's scent, making her snap to attention.
Grace shook her head, muttering, "No way!"
Owen wrapped his arm around her shoulders. Her slim frame looked even more delicate, like a fragile vine, in his embrace. They looked like they were made for each other.
Henry sat in his wheelchair, just watching them from behind.
The night stretched on endlessly. The initial shock of seeing her had worn off, and everything around him felt overwhelmingly empty.
Henry watched Grace in Owen's arms.
He saw their sweet moment, realizing everything that was once his was now someone else's.
Owen walked Grace to a black sedan in the parking lot.
As Grace got in, Owen held the car roof, leaning in slightly, his eyes full of affection. "Get some rest. I'll hit you up tomorrow."
Grace smiled and nodded. She handed him his coat. "Not cool to wear just a shirt when you're out."
Slipping on the coat, Owen looked at Grace in the car. She was wearing a soft and elegant light purple dress for the evening. He couldn't help but lean in and kiss her.
As a grown man, he definitely wanted more.
But Grace wasn't like other women. He'd known her since she was young. Besides admiring her as a woman, he had a tender spot for her, like she was a little girl. Of course, he found the current Grace even more appealing—mature, exuding womanly charm.
Owen's sudden kiss caught Grace off guard, but she didn't pull away.
After a moment, she gently wrapped her arms around Owen's neck, her fingers lightly caressing his chin, adding a touch of sensuality.
Owen felt a bit dizzy and couldn't help but kiss behind her ear.
Grace smelled the faint scent of alcohol on him and softly reminded, "Let the driver take you home."
Owen absentmindedly hummed in agreement.
A moment later, he chuckled and asked, "Feeling better now? Still upset?"
With the driver there, Grace couldn't fully relax.
Plus, they had just started their relationship, and she wasn't in that headspace.
She leaned against Owen, her voice a bit shaky. "I'm fine, really."
Just then, Owen's phone rang. It was his assistant, probably something urgent. He told Grace and then stood up straight, signaling the driver.
The driver slowly drove the car away.
Grace sat in the back seat, watching Owen's figure shrink in the rearview mirror.
Owen was on the phone but kept glancing her way.
Grace thought, let it be! Her past with Henry was done. Now they both had new lives, and there was no point in being sad. That wouldn't be fair to the people around them.
The night was chilly, and Grace hugged her arms. The driver turned on the heat.
He smiled and said, "Mr. Davis always mentions how you're sensitive to the cold, so I should keep that in mind. Mr. Davis is a really considerate guy."
Grace smiled faintly. What woman didn't like a man's tenderness and thoughtfulness?
The sleek black sedan cruised through the streets and happened to pass by Tranquil Heights.
The black gate had "Tranquil Heights" written on it.
Grace had heard that Henry had moved out of Tranquil Heights. Now, no one lived there. Just looking from the outside, you could feel the emptiness inside.
Grace softly said to the driver, "Stop the car!"
The driver hit the brakes and pulled over. He turned around, looking puzzled, "Ms. Windsor, everything okay?"
Grace's voice was soft. "I wanna get out and walk. You can head back."
The driver glanced back, guessing she was feeling nostalgic, and said, "Ms. Windsor, you wanna see the old place, right? I'll wait here for you."
Grace forced a smile. "I'll call a cab later."
The driver hesitated but agreed. He got out and opened the door for Grace, adding, "Ms. Windsor, don't worry. I won't say a word to Mr. Davis."
Grace didn't explain. She gently pulled her shawl tighter and walked towards the lonely house.
The moonlight cast a clear glow. Grace's high heels clicked on the tiles, making a crisp and lonely sound, just like the coldness of Tranquil Heights.
Grace reached the door and looked up at Tranquil Heights. This house held her beautiful childhood memories.
This house also held memories of the best times with Henry. They had been married for so many years, and the best time was actually the period after their divorce. They lived like a real couple, even though they were worried every day. But every time she was in Henry's warm embrace, listening to his voice with certainty, she felt that Taylor would be fine.
She always wondered if it weren't for those tender moments, those unforgettable memories, she wouldn't find it so hard to forget.
Grace didn't want to dwell on the past anymore and was about to leave when she looked up and saw Henry.
Henry sat in his wheelchair, quietly watching Grace, just like at the Young Mansion.
They looked at each other for a while. Henry's tone was slightly stern. "Why did you come here? Aren't you with Owen? Aren't you happy? Why come here and reminisce about the past?"
Grace took a step back.
Henry wheeled himself closer, staring at her face, pondering her involvement with Owen.
He had seen it all, seen Grace intimately touching Owen's chin. He couldn't bear to imagine how indulgent they were in private. Would she, when making love with Owen, hold him tightly and in a fragile voice ask him to be gentle, saying she couldn't take it? Would she bury her small face in the pillow, her beautiful blonde hair scattered, driving the man to possess her even more wildly?
Just thinking about it drove Henry nearly insane.
When he went mad, he became perverse. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her into his arms.
Grace, caught off guard, fell onto him, looking disheveled.
She realized Henry had a man's physical need, which made her even more embarrassed. Her voice was shattered, but she didn't want to show weakness. "What are you doing?! Can't Esme satisfy you? Henry, let me go!"
Henry was provoked.
He spoke crudely, "How could she be as good as you? Saying no but clinging so tightly every time!"
Henry's voice grew harsher. "You're with him now, but you're still restless, aren't you? Do you think of me when you're making love with him, imagining his face as mine?"
Grace slapped Henry.
She couldn't bear it anymore. "Henry, do you know what you're saying? Wasn't it you who gave up first? Wasn't it you who chose Esme, who let her humiliate me in Tranquil Heights like she was the mistress, who told me you couldn't stand the loneliness?"
She struggled but couldn't break free.
Henry still held her tightly. His left hand was incredibly strong, and his blue eyes stared at her with a man's blatant gaze.
Grace really didn't know if he was stimulated.
Henry slightly released Grace. Not only did he let her go, but he also apologized, his tone sincere. "I'm sorry, Ms. Windsor. I lost my composure just now!"
