Chapter 109 Red Dress

Chapter 109 Red Dress
Xavier’s POV

I haven’t seen many lawyers in my life, but I already have a picture in my head of what I expect them to look like.

And this one before me looks nothing like that.

He introduced himself as Lauren, like I need to know that.

He’s very young, with braided hair, and wears a casual outfit, plus he’s really soft-spoken and funny.

He’s been trying to crack jokes ever since I came here, but he’s finally gotten the memo that I don’t give an actual fuck, and I want to be done with this sooner than later.

I have a girlfriend I left alone at the apartment, plus there’s another secret date I’m planning, but the email I got this morning disrupted my plan.

“We’ll get straight to the point.”

Finally.

He opens a drawer, and hands me a fat envelope.

“This contains the inter vivos transfer documents, which you have to sign, and some other documents concerning the properties being transferred to you.”

“Okay.”

I break the seal, slipping out the first paperwork, the one that needs my signature of acceptance.

“There’s a handwritten letter in there. From her.” He adds, pursing his lips. “You might want to read that in private.”

Like I don’t know already.

I scan through the document, my eyes widening at some point.

I was only expecting her to pass down the assets and money she got from divorcing my father, but imagine my shock when I realize she’s also handing me her own inheritance.

I’m talking about the properties she got from her own family. Every one of them.

This is solid proof that this was done out of guilt and sympathy.

No wonder my father, no, that man, pleaded for a share of this.

I scoff at the memory, and it pushes me to sign instantly.

He can fuck off, and eat grass.

None of this moves me.

Yes, I’m glad this is more than enough to establish me, and get me my dream life, but the bitter story behind it would always stick.

She even included bank cards, and cars.

“This might seem like a lot now, but I’m sure you’ll come of age to handle it well.” Lauren explains, combing his hand through his hair. “We have people who will look after it, until you’re ready.”

He looks at me, but I just stare back with a blank expression.

“Your mom made sure of that.” He swallows, before adding,

“Okay.”

Is he scared? I thought lawyers always had this boldness in them, but for my ever-so-careful mom to trust him with this, that must mean he’s really capable.

“That would be all.”

“Okay.” I stand, shoving the envelope into my bag.

“Be careful with those, they’re the original documents.”

“Noted.”

“But if any go missing, I’ve already prepared duplicates.”

“That’s smart.” I say, smirking before leaving the office.

I’ll make sure Jasmine’s art gets recognized, now that I have the money to do that, and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll buy her her very own art gallery.

With that thought, I get into my car and drive off, something in me curious to know what’s written in the letter.

When I was picking out this dress for her, I didn’t know it was going to look this good on her.

I watch her step out of the apartment, the red dress hugging her body like a second skin.

The lace shows off her beautiful skin. My eyes trace along the curve of her hips, and her exposed long legs.

My breath hitches in my throat when I notice just how high the slit is.

“Let’s go.” She laughs out, knowing how much effect she has on me.

Did I just buy my own temptation?

I swallow, before opening the car door for her to enter, shielding her head.

When she’s seated, I start the car, begging myself to focus on the road and not cause an accident.

“Where are we going?” She asks a few minutes into the drive.

I’m sure she knows I won’t tell her, but she keeps trying her luck.

“It’s a surprise.”

“Tell me.”

“Hard pass.”

“Xavier!”

I bite back my laughter and ease off the brakes, not because I want to reach there sooner and satisfy her curiosity, but because I don’t know how long I can remain sane, with her just inches away.

When we finally arrive, I help her out of the car, before holding her hand and guiding her to the elevator.

This is our first ever official date at an expensive restaurant, and I want her to enjoy every bit of it.

I booked a private section on the rooftop, where we can watch the city and enjoy our meal, and I can’t wait to see the look on her face when we get there.

“Xavier!” She squeals, snatching her hand from mine to cover her mouth.

I just stand there, watching her take a look around.

It’s only us on the rooftop, and there are flowers everywhere, plus one bouquet that sits beautifully on the table.

She shakes her head in disbelief, before asking, “You did all of this?”

“Yup.”

And more.

I almost say, but that would be another surprise.

I lead her to our table, pulling out her seat first before joining her.

The waiter comes out to pour our wine, before leaving to get our food.

“This is so beautiful.” She expresses, her eyes sweeping across. “The people and cars feel so small from this height.”

“Now do you feel like God?” I joke, raising my glass for a toast.

“Nah, I’ll stick to being a princess.”

“In that case, let me raise a toast to the strongest and most beautiful princess to ever exist.”

Her smile turns into a grin, and that’s all I need to know I’ve fulfilled my purpose tonight.

“To Princess Jasmine.” I say.

But she corrects, “To us.”

That doesn’t sound bad either.

Then we clink glasses.
