CHAPTER SIXTY
{Lexi}
"Lexi." My name was being called, so I closed the journal swiftly and made it up the stairs quickly.
"I'm right here," I said, hiding the journal underneath my shirt.
"Where were you? I was worried when I didn't see you in your room." My mother said,
"I was down in the basement," I said like it was a normal thing to spend time in the basement. "I was just looking for some young photos of Lex and I, you know, for our birthday." I lied when she gave me a confused look.
"Yeah, that's true. Do you think you can handle a party though? I don't want to stress you, I called your therapist, and she said you need to rest." She said,
"Yes, Mom, I'm good," I said and gave her a big smile. "Where is Lex? " I asked, looking around for my brother.
"He went out with Axle and Mina." She spoke, and I nodded.
I wanted my brother to be happy, and if his secret affair with his mother's boyfriend's daughter made him happy, then he should definitely go for it.
"You are in love with him, aren't you?" I asked, and I watched my mother turn pink.
"I do," she said and bit her tongue gently. "I didn't think it was possible to fall in love again after your dad, but I did and I'm happy." She said, and I smiled at her.
"As long as you're happy, that's all that matters," I said.
"Thank you, hun." She said and patted me on the shoulder gently. "Do you need anything?"
"Nah, I'm good, I'll just be in my room resting," I said.
"That's good." She said and left.
When I got to my room, I closed the door and drew the blinds close, and then I turned on my night lamp.
I sat on my bed and brought the journal out from under my shirt.
I flipped it open and continued from where I had stopped. I noticed that there was no more entry on the first page, so I turned to the next page.
Who was Seraphine Delphine, and why did she call my mother her granddaughter?
My great-grandmother's name was Corinne Mathews. My grandmother had been Clara Mathews before she got married to my grandfather, and that was how my mother became Bethany Davis and that was what I knew of my family tree from my mother's side.
"The thoughts of Seraphine Delphine in the final stages of my delirium," I read aloud the headline from the next page.
Delirium.
Had my great-grandmother been delirious before her death, would that be why my mother thinks I may have health issues, because I look exactly like her?
But I still did not understand why she was calling herself Seraphine instead of Corrinne.
Maybe she was indeed delirious, but that did not stop me from reading further.
Everything you've been told is true; there are other creatures that inhabit the same Earth as humans; they hide in the shadows and are too powerful to be found out by humans.
They are called the dark creatures or the night creatures, they belong to the dark and the night, and they are governed by the moon goddess.
They are witches and warlocks, werewolves, hybrids, faes and fairies, vampires, and many others.
Oh boy, I can see why my mother would want to hide this book away.
Two years ago, none of this would have made sense to me, and I would have thrown away the journal or burnt it immediately, but I could not help but see some truth in it, the boy, or Axle, from my dream had bitten my neck, and his eyes had changed to golden.
He could very well be a werewolf.
The girl I saw at dinner behind Axle was clad in all black, and she had green eyes, she could also make herself invisible.
She could very well be a witch.
I had not met anyone I could liken to a vampire, or a fae, or a fairy, or a hybrid, so I wasn't really sure about those.
Wait…… What about me?
I have dreams, I see things that nobody else could see. My eyes sometimes glow, and I have a peculiar necklace that glows.
I could very well be a seer or even a witch.
I gasped in horror and slammed the book shut, the book was making me imagine things.
"It is nothing but the scribblings of a dying, delirious woman," I started chanting to get my head out of my ass.
That's it, I was done reading the book for today.
I put the book inside my drawer and I closed it. I yawned twice and suddenly became very tired, and I fell into a deep sleep immediately as my head hit the pillow.
Such a pity that instead of resting, I jetted off to the land of dreams immediately.
"Lexi." The girl from the dinner called out to me.
"It's you, from dinner, you're real!" I exclaimed in shock, the shock was too great. I thought I would hyperventilate and pass out.
"Nope, that can't happen here." She said, and I marveled at how she just read my mind.
"Who are you?" I asked. "How did you just do that?"
"Seraphine Delphine was also my great-grandmother." She said, and I paused.
The name did sound familiar to me, but I was not sure where I had heard it from.
Oh yes, the journal.
"I don't know her, but I have her journal if you want it back," I said.
"She was also your great gran." She said,
"My great-grandmother was called Corrinne Mathews, there's no way we're talking about the same person."
"Read the journal, Lexi. I have to go now because you're not well, but read the journal." She said and left.
What did she mean by I'm not well?
I woke up with a start, and she was right, I was running a high temperature, and I was almost foaming at the mouth.
