Chapter 130 The Quiet Yes

Chapter 130 The Quiet Yes

Naomi didn’t notice it at first.

It wasn’t a dramatic realization. No sudden dizziness. No collapsing onto the bed with a hand pressed to her stomach. Just… little things. Ordinary things that, on their own, meant nothing.

Until they didn’t anymore.

It started with the smell of coffee which almost purged her.

Lucas had just poured himself a cup in the kitchen, the rich aroma filling the space like it always did. Naomi had loved that smell for years. It grounded her. Comforted her.

That morning, it made her gag.

She froze mid-step, one hand gripping the counter as a wave of nausea rolled through her. Her stomach twisted violently, her throat tightening.

“Naomi?” Lucas turned immediately. “What’s wrong?”

She waved him off, swallowing hard. “Nothing. Just… too strong.”

Lucas frowned. “Too strong?”

She forced a small smile. “Maybe I didn’t eat enough yesterday.”

But as the day went on, the little things piled up.

She was tired…bone-deep tired in a way sleep didn’t fix. Her favorite lunch made her push the plate away. Her emotions felt… loose. A commercial on television nearly made her cry, and she didn’t even know what it was about.

That night, as she lay in bed, Naomi stared at the ceiling.

Lucas noticed. He always did.

“You’ve been quiet all day,” he said softly, turning toward her. “Talk to me.”

She hesitated. “I remember how I was before I found out I was pregnant with Charles?”

Lucas’s body went still. “Yes.”

She swallowed. “I feel like that again.”

Silence settled between them.

Lucas didn’t jump to conclusions. He never did. He reached out and took her hand instead, thumb brushing over her knuckles.

“Are you late?” he asked gently.

Naomi nodded. “A little.”

“How late?”

“Enough to notice,” she replied quietly.

Lucas sat up slowly. “Have you taken a test?”

“No,” she admitted. “I was scared.”

He smiled faintly. “Of what?”

“Of hoping,” she whispered.

Lucas leaned over and kissed her forehead. “We’ll find out together.”

The next morning, Naomi stood in the bathroom staring at the test in her hand like it might explode.

Her heart pounded so loudly she was sure Lucas could hear it from the other side of the door.

“You’re taking too long,” he called lightly. “You okay?”

“I’m fine,” she replied quickly. “Just… give me a minute.”

She placed the test down carefully and turned away, forcing herself to count.

One.
Two.
Three.

She didn’t make it to ten before she turned back.

Two lines.

Clear. Undeniable.

Naomi’s breath hitched.

Her knees weakened, and she sat down on the edge of the bathtub, staring at the little plastic stick in disbelief.

Pregnant.

Again.

Her hand trembled as she covered her mouth. A laugh escaped her, broken and breathless, quickly followed by tears.

“Naomi?” Lucas knocked once, then opened the door slowly. “What is it?”

She looked up at him, eyes shining.

Without a word, she held up the test.

Lucas stared at it.

Then at her.

Then back at the test.

For a heartbeat, he didn’t move.

Then he crossed the room in two long strides and knelt in front of her, cupping her face in his hands.

“Is this real?” he asked, voice low and unsteady.

She nodded, tears slipping down her cheeks. “I think so.”

He laughed softly, something raw and emotional breaking through his composure. He pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.

“We should confirm it,” he said against her hair, already thinking ahead. “At the hospital.”

“Yes,” she agreed quickly. “Please.”

Lucas grabbed his keys within minutes.

Charles was still asleep when they left, the house unusually quiet as if it sensed the significance of the moment.

The drive to the hospital felt longer than usual.

Naomi stared out the window, one hand resting unconsciously on her stomach. Her mind raced with questions, with memories, with hopes she was afraid to fully embrace just yet.

Lucas kept glancing at her, his grip on the steering wheel tight.

“You okay?” he asked.

She nodded. “I’m just… processing.”

He smiled softly. “Me too.”

At the hospital, everything moved in a blur of white walls and gentle voices.

Naomi answered questions automatically. Dates. Symptoms. History.

Lucas never let go of her hand.

When they finally sat in the examination room, Naomi’s nerves returned full force.

“What if the test was wrong?” she whispered.

Lucas squeezed her hand. “Then we’ll deal with that too.”

The doctor entered with a warm smile. “Let’s take a look.”

The ultrasound gel was cold, making Naomi flinch slightly. Lucas’s eyes never left the screen.

For a few seconds, there was nothing.

Naomi’s breath caught.

Then boom.

“There,” the doctor said, pointing. “Do you see it?”

Naomi leaned forward.

It was a tiny flicker.

Lucas sucked in a sharp breath. “Is that…?”

“Yes,” the doctor smiled. “That’s a heartbeat.”

Naomi broke into tears.

They streamed down her face as emotion crashed over her in waves. She laughed and cried at the same time, gripping Lucas’s hand tightly.

“Oh my God,” she whispered. “Lucas…”

He couldn’t speak. His eyes were locked on the screen, chest rising rapidly.

“That’s our baby,” he finally said, voice thick. “That’s really our baby.”

The doctor nodded. “Congratulations. You’re pregnant.”

The words felt surreal, rushes of emotions but mostly positive ones.

After the appointment, they sat in the car for a long moment before starting the engine.

Lucas leaned over and kissed Naomi gently, reverently. “Happy late birthday to you.”

She laughed through tears. “Best gift ever.”

He rested his forehead against hers. “We’re doing this again.”

“Yes baby,” she said softly. “Together.”

“I can't wait.”

As they drove home, Naomi looked down at her stomach again, a small smile playing on her lips.

She was about to have another pregnancy journey but this time as Lucas's wife not baby mama

The world hadn’t changed yet but everything has for herself and her husband.
