Chapter 134 Elara is my sister

Chapter 134 Elara is my sister
Jayden's POV

"What are you talking about?" Hillary defended, refusing to answer the question Maurice threw at him.

His face turned ugly. "Do I have to report my every movement to you?" he asked, visibly fuming. Then he wagged his finger at Maurice, who glared at him with his hands in his pockets. "Just who do you think you are?"

Maurice took a step forward, as though to show Hillary that he wasn't frightened at all by his words.

"Mr. Hillary Ashford, lately, I've found out that you are behind a lot of things," he began, and a frown appeared on my lips.

A lot of things?

Things like what?

Thinking about it, Maurice seemed more agitated than usual.

He was usually calm. No matter what, he had a smirk on his lips, ready to piss people off with his jokes. But this time, the smirk had disappeared, replaced with a serious expression, one that was rarely ever seen on his face.

"If this is confirmed to be one of them..." His tone dropped to show Hillary how serious he was. "If you have truly taken Elara, then the Lanfields wouldn't be letting you go."

Hillary felt his threat, and although he put up a brave front, it was obvious the name Lanfield scared him a little.

But he got over it quickly.

His eyes trailed across me before looking at Maurice.

"I may understand Jayden's anger," he said, gesturing at me.

My eyes saw red at the mention of my name. This fucking bastard. I snapped my eyes away from the house to look at Hillary.

After glaring at him for a few seconds, I returned my gaze to the mansion.

Multiple thoughts flooded my brain, but the most important one was...

Was Elara in there?

It would be one of the craziest places to keep Elara because of how obvious it was.

She couldn't be in there. Hillary Ashford was a man who covered his tracks.

Besides, he was in the Mafia, if not a leader of some group. He had to have some sort of dungeon where he kept his enemies.

If he had dared to keep Elara in a place like that...

The thought consumed me, and I redirected my attention towards him. My eyes stared so hard at him, I felt like setting him on fire.

"My daughter happens to be his girlfriend, but you..." I heard Hillary continue. "What are you to her? Why are you so damn concerned about my family?"

My eyes turned to Maurice, who smirked. But it wasn't like his usual mocking smirk. It did seem to be mocking, but for the person who understood it, and at that moment, that person was Hillary fucking Ashford.

He took a step closer.

"You know the answer to that question very well, Mr. Ashford," Maurice said with a tight smile as he stared at Hillary.

Maurice's certainty made Hillary's eyes widen. It was subtle, but I noticed it.

"You know why I'm so concerned."

Fuck it.

This was just long talk.

"I don't have the time for this bullshit," I interjected into the conversation between them before stepping in front of Maurice so I could properly glare at the fucking bastard. "Hillary, neither you nor your family or any of your property is leaving this country until Elara is found."

His anger rose to the peak.

"Jayden Bryes!" Hillary yelled, his chest moving up and down rapidly as he pointed his finger at me. "You! You can't do that..." He paused and began to cough.

Katrine ran towards her father almost immediately, patting his back gently while Hillary's body shook as violent coughs left his lips.

"Try me," I muttered, glaring at the man who seemed to have aged twenty years more before turning away.

Maurice followed right behind me.

We said nothing until we got to the car and sat down.

Only then did Maurice speak.

"We're certain he took her, right?" he asked. There was no other person who would take her apart from Hillary.

He was the one.

Definitely.

I nodded, leaning back in the chair.

"And he's going to lead us right to her."

That was if Maurice's manager hadn't been able to track the van before then.

Hillary was a professional. He wouldn't leave traces. The best way, the only way to get to Elara would be to follow him.

I could feel my heart beating wildly in my chest. I felt uneasy.

In less than twenty-four hours, I had Elara's heart, then I lost it, and now... Now I lost her.

For the first time in forever... Since Jane died, I had felt that fear again.

I couldn't lose Elara. But there was nothing else I could do.

Even if I shook that bloody bastard from now until tomorrow morning, he wouldn't give up Elara's location. The only thing to do was wait.

Thinking of that, I turned on the car's engine and drove to a blind spot between his cameras, where I would be able to see him leave his car without him seeing me.

After turning the ignition off, my mind darted to what Hillary had said earlier.

"But he's right, though," I spoke, breaking the silence in the car. "What do you want from Elara? You pushed her to me at the party, and you rejected her a few hours ago."

Maurice blinked. "I didn't exactly reject her." He shook his head. "It's just..."

"You didn't want anything to be between you two," I answered. Maurice didn't refute it. I was right.

So, he was never interested in Elara?

The sides of my lips pulled downwards to form a frown. "It can't be because you love your girlfriend."

I had seen the way he treated Katrine. He practically neglected her.

It should be a good thing that Maurice didn't like Elara in that manner, but... It was Maurice. There had to be a catch.

"What does Hillary know that I don't?" I asked before repeating the first question. "What do you want from Elara?"

Maurice snorted, then he chuckled. "Ever heard of a term called friendship?" he asked, but got silence for an answer.

I pressed my lips into a thin line, glaring at him.

Friendship? That wasn't a term associated with people like us. It could be business partners, allies, or colleagues, but never friends.

Maurice upheld that rule more than anyone else I knew.

His laughter slowly died down, and his expression became serious again.

"Elara is..." He paused, staying silent for a few seconds before speaking again. "Elara is my sister."

What the...

"She's a Lanfield, and the daughter of my parents," he continued before I could think. "My biological sister that went missing over two decades ago, Clara Lanfield."
