Chapter 139 139
Chapter 139 139
Amy's POV
I caught him. He went down on one knee and I was already moving behind him, both hands grabbing his arm and his shoulder and taking as much of his weight as I could. He was heavy. He was significantly heavier than me and I was pregnant. I was not letting him hit the floor.
"I've got you," I said. I said it directly into his ear. "I've got you. Stay with me."
His hand came up and grabbed mine. His grip was still strong but I could feel the effort it took. His breathing had changed. Slower than it should be. His head was staying up but it was taking work.
"Damien. Look at me. Please stop scaring me, what is wrong with you? What are you people doing to him??"
He turned his head slightly and looked at me. His eyes were still focused. But there was something fighting behind them, something working against him from the inside, and I knew enough about what Richard's poison did to know it was only going to get worse from here.
Brian took a step toward us.
I don't know how to explain what happened next except to say that something in me stopped being kind.
It wasn't anger exactly. I've been angry plenty of times and I know what that feels like. It was the fear of losing someone who was important to me. They already poisoned him and I don't know how they manage to do that. But I won't let them have their way.
The room shook. This time it was much worse than the explosion that happened not too long ago. I heard something in the far corner fall over and break.
Richard stepped back and he looked very shocked. Brian froze mid-step. Every person still standing in that room went completely still.
I stood up straight. I looked at Brian first. Then at Richard, then back at Brian.
"How dare you touch him?"
"Touch him again," I growled, "and I will end every single one of you."
My own voice sounded different to me. It was steadier than I thought it would be. This wasn't just me but my entire being and my wolf, including my powerful child doing everything to protect our family n
Nobody moved. It seems like the battle stopped at the moment and everyone was looking at me.
"I give you a chance to stay away from me and my family but you didn't listen. You still think you can hold me down?"
I didn't have time to hold a standoff. I turned and got my shoulder under Damien's arm and got him moving toward the wall to our left. He was trying to help. I could feel him pushing through it, trying to use his legs, trying to give me something to work with. He managed enough that we made it the ten feet to the wall and I got him down against it sitting up with his back supported.
I crouched in front of him and put my hand on his chest.
His heartbeat was wrong. It wasn't absent, it wasn't stopping, but it was uneven in a way that made my own chest tighten. Stuttering slightly. Like something was interfering with the signal.
"Stay awake," I told him. "You absolutely cannot lose you consciousness right now. Do you hear me?"
"I can hear you." His voice was quieter than normal but it was still his. "You're glowing."
I looked down at my hands. He was right. There was a faint light under my skin that hadn't been there before, moving up my arms slowly. My power still running.
"I know," I said. "Don't worry about it. At least, this is enough to scare everyone and save us from this problems"
A contraction hit. I stayed exactly where I was. I kept my hand on his chest and I kept my eyes moving between him and the place and I breathed through it with my teeth together until it passed. It was longer than the last one. My body was done being patient.
I was doing two things at once and both of them required everything I had and I did not have the option of choosing between them. I looked back at Richard and Brian across the room.
Brian was watching me with an expression I hadn't seen on him before. It was genuine shock. Like he had never actually expected this version of me to exist.
Richard was watching me differently. He was reassessing a situation he thought he had under control.
"This doesn't have to continue," Richard said. He had moved back another two steps. He was still calm but I could definitely hear the impatience from him. "You're in labor. He's poisoned. Let us help both of you. You give me what I need and I will give you the antidote for him right now."
I looked at him.
"You have an antidote," I said.
"Of course I do." He reached into his jacket. "I'm not trying to kill him. I told you that. I just needed him manageable."
I scoffed. "You did surprising him and tell me that you were trying to be manageable? Why do I have to listen to you?"
I looked at Damien. His eyes were still on me. He was still fighting to stay present. His hand found my wrist and held it loosely. I looked back at Richard. Everything in me wanted to say yes. But I thought about what he actually wanted.
He wanted my child's blood in the first hours of life. He wanted to take something from my son before my son was even an hour old. He definitely did not want just the blood. He wants to kill my child. Why should I even let someone as evil as him getting power anyway?
I kept my hand on Damien's chest.
"No," I said.
Richard's expression shifted. Brian took a step forward..The room shook again. Harder this time. A crack appeared in the wall above Richard's head and he looked up at it involuntarily.
I felt another contraction and I locked my legs and I stayed standing.
Then the opposite wall exploded inward.
Not from an explosion outside but rom impact. Something hit it from the other side with enough force to cave it in completely and the concrete came apart in a cloud of dust and through the gap, moving fast, came my father.
I almost jumped when I saw my dad, he was clearly still not fully recovered, he was moving way too fast for someone who was supposed to be recovering. Behind him were six warriors in his pack's colors.
He came in and his eyes found me immediately. Then they dropped to Damien on the floor.
Then they came back to me and he took in the full picture, my hands glowing, the crack in the wall above Richard, Brian frozen in place, me standing between all of them and Damien.
"Amelia, are you both okay?"
"I'm just having contractions Dad, but he's not okay." I pointed towards Damien
He reached into his jacket and pulled out something small. He crossed the room to me and put it in my hand and closed my fingers around it.
"Your mother left this for you," he said quietly. His voice was steady even though he looked like he was running on nothing. "I've been carrying it for years waiting for the right moment."
I looked down at my closed fist.
"What does it do?" I asked.
He met my eyes.
"Everything you need." he said.
