Chapter 6 - The one you looking for
Carla
I stood before Kevin, the weight of the truth heavy on my shoulders. I took a deep breath and began, "Kevin, that night... it's not what you think. I didn't mean to deceive you, but circumstances forced me into a situation I couldn't control."
Kevin's expression was a mix of confusion and frustration. "What are you talking about, Carla? Just be clear."
I met his gaze, my eyes pleading for him to understand. "You were incredibly drunk that night. So intoxicated that you didn't recognize me, even though we had spent so much time together."
He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, a sign of his growing impatience. "Drunk or not, I would remember the person I spent such an intense night with. Stop playing games, Carla."
"No, Kevin, I'm not playing games. I'm telling you the truth," I said, my voice tinged with desperation. "You were so inebriated that you couldn't distinguish between reality and illusion. I didn't want to take advantage of you, but circumstances led us to that moment."
Kevin's skepticism was evident as he crossed his arms. "So, you're saying I was so drunk that I couldn't recognize the person I was with? That's hard to believe."
I reached out, gently placing my hand on his arm, hoping to convey sincerity. "Kevin, think about it. You were surrounded by people, the atmosphere was chaotic, and you had consumed more alcohol than you realized. It's not uncommon for memories to be hazy in such situations."
He looked away, his brows furrowing in thought. "But I remember a different face, a different person."
"Kevin, you were seeing what you wanted to see," I explained softly. "It was easier for your mind to create a familiar image rather than confront the reality of the situation. You were in no state to fully comprehend what was happening."
His gaze returned to me, a mix of disbelief and vulnerability in his eyes. "Why didn't you tell me this before? Why let me believe something else?"
A pang of guilt tightened my chest. "I tried to explain that morning, but you were furious, and I couldn't find the right words. I thought it would be better to let you cool down and then talk about it. But then, I lost contact with you, and the opportunity slipped away."
He looked at me, his expression softening. "So, you're saying I might not remember the real person I was with that night?"
I nodded, trying to hold back the tears threatening to spill. "Yes, Kevin. I understand how confusing this must be for you. But please, try to remember the circumstances. It was me, Carla, who was with you that night."
He took a step back, his mind grappling with the revelation. "This is a lot to process. I need some time to think."
I nodded, my heart heavy with uncertainty. "Take all the time you need, Kevin. I just wanted you to know the truth."
Without giving him a chance to respond, I closed the distance between us and gently placed my lips on his. The kiss was a deliberate move, a calculated attempt to recreate the emotions that had sparked between us on that mysterious night. I could sense his initial surprise, but as the kiss lingered, I felt a subtle shift in his response.
To my surprise and relief, Kevin kissed me back. It was a hesitant response, clouded with confusion, but there was an undeniable connection in the way our lips met. I hoped that this bold move would blur the lines between reality and the elusive memories he sought.
As we parted, I searched his eyes for any signs of recognition. "Do you remember now, Kevin? Can you feel anything familiar?"
He ran a hand through his hair, a sign of his internal struggle. "Carla, this is so confusing. It felt like déjà vu, but I can't place where I've experienced this before."
I maintained a reassuring smile, concealing the unease that threatened to surface. "Kevin, sometimes emotions speak louder than memories. Trust what you feel, and perhaps the rest will fall into place."
A moment of silence hung between us, the city lights below casting a gentle glow on our uncertain tableau. Kevin sighed, the weight of confusion evident in his eyes. "I don't know, Carla. This is all so overwhelming."
In an unexpected turn, Kevin leaned in and kissed me again. This time, his response carried a sense of surrender, as if he was embracing the emotions that stirred within him. It was a moment of shared vulnerability, a bridge between the past and the present.
As we broke the kiss, Kevin looked at me with a mixture of bewilderment and acceptance. "Carla, I... I don't understand, but something about this feels right."
I nodded, my heartbeat echoing the relief I felt. "Kevin, let's take it one step at a time. We'll figure it out together."
He gave a hesitant smile, a trace of gratitude in his eyes. "Yeah, maybe you're right. It's just a lot to process."
I reached out and gently touched his arm, my gesture carrying a reassurance I hoped would reach him. "Kevin, I understand your skepticism. I didn't plan for any of this to happen. But I'm here now, and all I want is for us to move forward together."
He looked into my eyes, searching for sincerity. "What do you suggest, Carla?"
"Let's take it one step at a time," I suggested. "Let go of the search for that mysterious girl because, Kevin, it's me. There's no need to keep looking. I'm right here."
He sighed, a mixture of relief and uncertainty in his expression. "I don't know if I can just stop looking, Carla. It's been driving me crazy."
"I get it," I said, my voice gentle. "But maybe, just maybe, letting go of that search will free us from the past. We can focus on what's real, on what's happening between us now."
Kevin's eyes bore into mine, and after a thoughtful pause, he nodded. "Okay, Carla. I'll try. But you have to promise me that you're being honest, that you're not just saying this to make me stop searching."
I nodded solemnly. "I promise, Kevin. I've been trying to tell you the truth, even if it took me a while to gather the courage."
