Chapter 243 Setting Off Back to Capital City

Benjamin was beat after all that.

Ava told him to crash, and as she watched him doze off, she just couldn't leave.

She was scared that if she left Benjamin for even a sec, everything would fall apart like a dream, and he'd be gone when she got back.

Her heart was aching too. Benjamin had been through hell, and seeing him hobble around made Ava super sad.

Xavier was already setting up their trip back to Capital City. Benjamin needed Dr. Brown's help ASAP; no time to waste.

A seven-year-old kid, barely as tall as a five-year-old, like he hadn't grown in two years. Who knew what kind of crap he had in his system? Without a full check-up, no one could chill.

Xavier also had the Meadowland admin send a message to the King, laying out the whole situation.

The Anderson Family preserving this bloodline would greatly please the King and all the dignitaries. And for the King family, this kid was like a second chance.

The Anderson Family massacre wasn't just about them dying; it was the brutal way they went out, each getting 108 cuts. They even thought Benjamin had been beheaded, his head so messed up it was unrecognizable, a death so gruesome it gave you chills.

Word was, Flora King, the old lady of the King family, fainted when she heard. She had raised the second wife of the Anderson Family and was closer to her than her other granddaughters.

And the old man, Jason King, was so torn up he fell down the stone steps in a daze and died the next day.

Under such a dark cloud, the King family had been MIA from any events for the past two years, skipping all the elite parties in Capital City.

Two days later, they hit the road back to Capital City.

Xavier took the reins, Crimson Blaze pulled the carriage, and Ava rode inside with Benjamin.

Briana had whipped up some desserts, and Ava opened them for Benjamin. As he ate, he cried and gestured with his hands.

He wanted to say it was tasty.

Ava got it, her nose stinging. "From now on, whatever you wanna eat, just tell the kitchen to make it for you."

Benjamin's eyes lit up but then dimmed again. He thought, 'The house is still there, but the family's gone. Ava's married now; she's gonna live with Xavier and can't always be with me.'

Thinking this, Benjamin clung to Ava the whole way, even insisting on sleeping in the same room with her at night.

Ava had some meds with her, but she only dared to give him stuff to boost his strength, not anything else.

Not knowing his current state or what poisons he had been exposed to, she was scared the wrong meds might make things worse.

When she first got back from Zenith Mountain, Benjamin's talk was still super kiddish. Later, when she married Ethan, he had already grown up a lot.

Because Molly had told him that he and his brother would be the men of the Anderson Family in the future, responsible for protecting Ava and their younger siblings, Benjamin started acting all grown-up.

When he talked all high and mighty, it was pretty funny. Thinking of his act, Ava chuckled, almost tearing up from laughing.

On the way, Xavier barely talked to Ava. Benjamin shut everyone out, not letting Xavier get close to Ava. Even though he knew Xavier had saved him, he was still scared and wary.

Ava told him Xavier was a good guy, but Benjamin wasn't having it. At night in the inn, he wrote down on paper why he was wary of Xavier: [A tall and fierce man like Xavier would whip, kick, and lift them like dolls, and then dunk them in a water tank, holding their heads down until they almost drowned before pulling them up.]

Ava read slowly, getting more details about his past two years.

It was heartbreaking.
