Chapter 175 Alexander Suspected of Running Away
Chapter 175 Alexander Suspected of Running Away
Eleanor smiled shyly. "I actually painted this a long time ago. Right after you helped me deal with those two guys who stole my phone. That was when I first started to feel something for you. Back then, you probably just saw me as someone whose talent you admired."
Alexander shook his head with a smile. "Silly girl. I fell in love with you before you even knew who I was."
"You loved me before I knew you? So the great CEO of Prescott Group was secretly pining over someone? That's very dramatic of you." Eleanor thought he was joking and didn't take it seriously.
"I'll finish painting my face tonight and we can hang it in our new home."
"Good. Paint a few more while you're at it. We can fill the whole house."
"Now what about my gift? Let me see it."
Eleanor expected jewelry or something similar. Instead, Alexander handed her a contract.
She flipped through it, confused. "What is this?"
"A prenuptial agreement. I know we'll never divorce, but I want you to have security. If we ever separate for any reason, or if something happens to me, everything I own, including Prescott Group, will be yours."
Eleanor's eyes went wide. She tossed the papers back at him. "I don't want it. Even if you gave me the company, I wouldn't know how to run it."
Alexander pulled out a pen and placed the contract back in her hands. "It's just a safety net. The future is unpredictable. We never know what might happen."
Seeing how serious he was, Eleanor finally signed her name.
"You really trust me that much? What if I marry you just to take your money and then divorce you right after? Aren't you worried about losing everything?"
Alexander smiled. "If you ever change your mind and want to leave me, I'll hold on so tight you'll never get the chance. No divorce. No escape."
Eleanor pouted. "Then this whole prenup is useless. You won't divorce me, and you won't let me divorce you either. You just wanted to make me happy."
Despite her words, happiness radiated from her face.
Alexander pulled her close. When she couldn't see his face, his expression darkened. A complicated look flickered in his eyes.
...
Time flew by, and soon the wedding day arrived.
The ceremony was magnificent. Celebrities and tycoons from around the world were invited. Everyone who mattered in high society was there.
Eleanor sat in front of the vanity mirror. Just thinking about marrying Alexander made her laugh out loud.
Daphne teased her from the side. "Love really does make people giddy. You're laughing while getting your makeup done. You'll probably laugh so hard during the ceremony you won't be able to stand up straight."
Eleanor smiled. "I never imagined this day would actually come. Going from an ordinary nobody to marrying Alexander. It still feels unreal."
"I never imagined you'd become my sister-in-law either. It's surreal for me too."
A bodyguard entered the room. He glanced at Eleanor, then walked over to Daphne and whispered something in her ear.
Daphne jumped to her feet. "What do you mean? Send more people to find him now!"
"What's wrong?" Eleanor asked.
Daphne forced a smile. "Nothing. Just a small issue at the gallery. I'll go check on it. Be right back."
"Okay. Go ahead."
Eleanor was too happy to notice Daphne's panic.
Half an hour passed. The guests had all arrived. The ceremony was about to begin, but Daphne still wasn't back. Eleanor called her, but no one answered.
Something felt off. She was about to try again when Sheila burst through the door, frantic. "This is bad, Eleanor! The boss is missing!"
"What?" Eleanor grabbed Sheila's arm. "What happened?"
Sheila looked like she was about to cry. "I heard it from Daphne's bodyguard. The boss disappeared about half an hour ago. They've sent tons of people out to search, but no one can find him."
Eleanor's vision blurred. She nearly collapsed.
"Please don't panic, Eleanor. I'm sure he'll be back soon!" Sheila tried to comfort her.
Eleanor pulled out her phone and called Alexander. It went straight to a busy signal. She tried again and again, but couldn't get through.
Panic rising, she grabbed her wedding dress and headed for the door. Daphne appeared just in time to stop her.
"Did you find him? Where's Alexander?"
Daphne paused. She shot Sheila a look. "Who told you to tell Eleanor?"
Sheila shrank back and stayed silent.
"If she hadn't told me, were you planning to keep it a secret forever? Where did Alexander go? How did he just vanish?" Eleanor demanded.
"I don't know. Dorui said he took a phone call and left. He told Dorui not to follow. I checked all the nearby surveillance footage, but there's no sign of where he went. I sent hundreds of guards out to search, but..." Daphne sighed heavily.
"Where could he have gone? His phone just keeps giving me a busy signal." Eleanor was frantic.
Daphne was just as anxious. While they were both panicking, a staff member approached. "The ceremony is about to start. All the guests have arrived. What should we do?"
Eleanor closed her eyes and forced herself to calm down. Alexander must have left for something important. Whatever it was, she believed he would come back.
With that thought, she steadied herself and turned to Daphne. "Keep searching. I'll start the ceremony and keep the guests occupied."
"Okay. I'll find him. I promise."
With their plan set, Eleanor lifted her gown and walked toward the chapel.
Her hands were clenched so tight her nails dug into her palms. The pain didn't help.
No matter how nervous she was, she made it to the chapel doors. When they swung open and all the spotlights fell on her, she put on her best smile and walked inside.
Seeing her alone, the guests began to whisper. Eleanor kept her composure and walked to the altar. She nodded politely to the officiant, then picked up the microphone.
"Due to an unexpected situation, Alexander had to step away briefly. He'll be back shortly. I appreciate everyone's patience."
The crowd murmured. Some said Alexander had run away. Others speculated something had happened to the Prescott family. Eleanor heard it all, but her smile never wavered.
She ignored the mocking glances and signaled for the officiant to proceed with the ceremony.
The officiant looked uncertain but didn't object.
Just as the ceremony was about to begin, a bodyguard burst through the chapel doors and stumbled toward her.
"Ma'am! The boss was in a car accident! His car went off a cliff! We don't know if he's alive or dead!"
