Chapter 91

Nina’s POV

Sabina leaned closer. Her perfume wrapped around me like too-sweet candy. She smiled that slow smile again and snapped her fingers at the two big guys standing by the door. “Check her again,” she said. “Make sure she doesn’t have any more toys hidden.”

One of the men stepped forward. His boots thudded heavy on the wooden floor. He grabbed my wrist a little too rough and ran his hands down my arms. The towel slipped off my chest. Cold air hit my skin. I flinched and tried to cover myself, but his grip stayed tight.

“Boss, she’s clean,” he grunted.

Sabina waved him off. “Good. Now get the drive hooked up downstairs. I want to see what’s on it before we move her.” She turned back to me and brushed a wet strand of hair off my forehead. Her fingers felt too warm. “You’ve caused me a lot of trouble, kitten. But I still like you. We could have been good together.”

I didn’t answer. My heart was pounding so loud I could hear it in my ears. The burns on my thighs stung every time I shifted on the couch. Warm water from Nana’s towel kept dripping down my side, but it didn’t help the fear twisting in my stomach.

That’s when the door downstairs banged open. Heavy footsteps came up fast.

The boys.

They burst into the room like shadows. Dante first, then Enzo, then Nikolai right behind. Each of them already had a black mask pulled tight over their faces. Their eyes looked sharp through the clear parts.

“Gas!” Dante shouted.

Nikolai tossed something small into the middle of the room. It hit the floor with a soft pop. White smoke hissed out fast. It smelled sweet, like flowers and metal mixed together. My nose burned.

Sabina’s men started coughing. One dropped to his knees right away. The other tried to raise his gun but his arm went limp. He slumped sideways and didn’t move.

I tried to hold my breath. Too late. The gas crawled into my lungs. My head got fuzzy. The room started spinning slow. My arms felt like wet noodles.

“Boys…” I whispered. My voice sounded far away.

Enzo caught me before I fell off the couch. His gloved hand was warm on my back. “We got you, baby. Just relax.”

Everything went dark again.

When I woke up, I was back on the same couch. Soft cushions under me. Warm water trickled down my arm. Nana was there, rubbing my skin with a damp towel. She squeezed it out over the bowl. Drops splashed on my thigh. The heat felt nice on the burns, like a gentle hug.

She muttered under her breath while she worked. “Stupid boys. Dragging her through all that mess. Look at these burns. And that damn gas? You three should be ashamed.” Her hands moved careful but firm over my shoulder. “Thick-headed fools. Almost killed the poor girl.”

I blinked slow. My head still felt heavy. “Nana?” I said, voice scratchy.

She looked up. Her eyes softened for a second, then went hard again. “You’re awake. Good. Drink this.” She held a cup of cool water to my lips. I sipped. It tasted clean and cold.

That was the first time I ever heard her curse at the boys. She sounded like a real grandma, mad but worried. It made something warm bloom in my chest even while my body ached.

I turned my head a little. Enzo sat in the corner chair. His shirt was off. He was digging a bullet out of his arm with a small knife. Blood trickled down his skin. He didn’t even flinch.

I swallowed hard. “Did… did we make it? With less men?”

Enzo glanced up. His face was tired but he gave a small grin. “The less number of skilled fighters, the better.” He pulled the bullet free and dropped it on the table with a soft clink. “We handled it.”

I stared at him. My hands still felt shaky. The towel kept moving over my stomach, warm and gentle. I thought about everything that just happened. The gas. The fall. The drive.

“Now that your plan to kill me with those dangerous gases didn’t work,” I said, voice quiet but steady, “how much and when am I getting paid?”

The room went still for a second.

Nana’s hand paused on my leg. She looked at me, then at Enzo, then back at the towel.

“I’m serious , when am I getting paid . Done my work right didn’t I ?” I asked trying to stand up but started coughing.

“You do know the flash is still missing right ?” Enzo said

“But she said she had it …”

“She was only bluffing ,good thing I was close enough to format the flash so we have to start the whole coding for the nuclear weapon afresh “ Nikolai said

“Oh my goodness, I’m sosorry for this “Nina said feeling disappointed

“It’s okay , just more billion dollars wasted and time “Nikolai said shrugging his shoulders while taking a drag of smoke not even sure if it’s okay for him to do that after that nuclear mini war.

“Atleast can I still get paid ? Even if it’s half way?”

“You will get your full payment “ Dante said from across the room looking at Nina with sharp curious eyes but nina was shocked.

“Does that mean I am debt free?” She asked with a grin on her that brightened her gloomy face.
