Chapter 183 Old Wound

Chapter 183 Old Wound
“I have had enough!” I growled, my eyes flashing dangerously. “I've had enough of you thinking you can control me. That's what you think, right? You think you're still in control. Well, news flash, old man. I am the Alpha now, and you shall listen to me!”

Father’s disposition changed. His aura had been thick enough to suffocate a thousand wolves earlier, but now it receded like a tide. His eyes betrayed his surprise at my lashing out, yet he remained utterly composed. He simply grabbed his mug of tea and took a sip from it.

I shifted my attention to the woman.

“As for you, aren't you tired of this circus act? Aren't you ashamed?”

That stubbornness I hated terribly surfaced from her. She spoke in a calm voice, like she did not see anything wrong with her actions, “Why would I be ashamed? Is it wrong to be with the man I love?”

The man she loved. Good Goddess! Could she even hear herself?!

“The man you love??” I spat with disdain, “You slept around with so many members of the pack that you were being called a prostitute!”

Father shook like he was about to rush over and stab his claws into my chest, so that I would never utter those words again. But I did not flinch. I did not back down. Not now, not ever.

“You weren't satisfied with having affairs with over half the male population in the pack, you decided to set your sights on the Alpha. The Alpha for hell’s sake! The man who by custom, already belonged to a Luna! How could you stand there and utter the word ‘love’ after all that? What the hell do you know about love?!”

“More than you, son.” She shrugged.

“I told you to not call me that!”

Ah, fucking hell! I wanted so desperate to smash something. Anything!

“Do you never listen? Is there something stuck in your ear?”

“You're the one who isn't listening.” She said with a frown. “Think about it. Why would he go through so much trouble to bring me back here? After so long, he did not forget me. You're the one failing to see that we care deeply about each other.”

“Is that right?” I scoffed. “Whatever you might believe in that head of yours is none of my business, but it doesn't suddenly erase all what you did. You were a terrible mother, Jocelyn.”

“Maybe I wasn't the best, but I tried my best. I really did.”

What the fuck?! What the actual fuck?!

“You did nothing!” I yelled, beads of sweat swinging from my forehead to the table. “All while I was being ostracized, you did nothing to stop it! Never once did you come to my defense, even though you were the root cause of all the hatred I was receiving. I was a child, for hell’s sake! Your child! Yet all you could think about was running back to him.”

I swept the strands of hair that had fallen over my face backwards.

“And now you have the guts to stand there and act like you actually did something for me?! All you brought into my life was pain and suffering. Why did you even give birth to me?! How could you have been so careless to have a baby with the Alpha of the pack?!”

“FUCK!” I kicked the chair behind me hard, sending it flying across the room and crashing into the wall.

I was brimming with so much rage. The heaviest rage I've ever felt in my entire life. All the emotion I kept bottled in my chest was pouring out in its full glory now. And that man, that bastard of a father, seemed to be enjoying every moment of it. He had not spoken since I yelled back at him, but he did not need to.

That faint smirk on his face told me I need to know.

“Are you calm now, Caligo? Will you listen to me now?” The woman who was my mother said, pursing her lips.

Gods, this woman was hopeless. I cupped my palms in front of my mouth and said, “Fine. Speak. Let's hear what you want to say.”

She smiled—an action that irked me so very much—and began, “Silas isn't the Alpha anymore. Neither is Catherine the Luna. So now, there's nothing stopping us from officially being together.”

I blinked once. Then twice.

“W-what are you saying?”

I was stammering. That was how incredulous I found her words to be.

She did not seem to care. She continued, “I'm saying that your father and I can finally be together. Once you marry that pretty girlfriend of yours, the new Alpha and Luna will officially be set in stone. That means Silas is free to do whatever he wants. We plan to create a new family. The both of us. With you as our proud son.”

I was too flabbergasted to speak. I glanced over at my father. He was smiling faintly. How exactly had he fed her with so much delusions that she believed this with her whole heart? That she was somehow going to marry the former Alpha, and they were going to create a new family?

And they would live happily ever after like nothing ever happened? Was that truly what she believed?

Mother Catherine and I never really saw eye to eye. We had our differences, and she never really liked me. The reason was very much understandable. And, at that moment, I couldn't help feeling utterly sorry for her.

How had she been so unfortunate to meet such a man? Such a vile, disgusting cheater of a man?

At that point, I was forced to ask, “Why did you marry her then?”

They both looked at me.

“Why did you marry Catherine if you did not love her?”

“Love…” Father chuckled softly. He placed the mug on the table and said with limpid eyes, “Love is strange. Love is unexplainable. It changes too. At the time, I really did love her. I simply met someone who made my heart flutter more. It's unfortunate that I did not meet your mother earlier. Else, she would've been the Luna.”

“Is that what you tell yourself?” I narrowed my eyes.

“What do you mean?”

Shaking my head, mostly out of pity for Jocelyn’s naivety, I said, “You know exactly what I mean. You might have her fooled, but don't think you can try to fool me. I do not know what your true intentions are, but I promise that I will uncover it and expose you. Maybe then, she'll finally be wise enough to leave you and own her mistakes.”

With that, I stormed out of the dining room and out of the house.
