Chapter 73 Seeing Her at the Murder Scene?
Miguel swung his sword down at her.
Cressida raised her hand to block it, and the violent impact made her eyes snap open.
Her red lips parted as she gasped for breath, looking around at the complete silence.
It was just a dream...
Cressida got up, her bare feet touching the cold floor tiles, finally bringing her back to reality.
Sweat had formed on her forehead. She gently wiped it away and drank a cup of cold tea to calm her nerves.
Once a person has secrets, they have weaknesses.
Living in constant fear of being discovered and meeting their doom, just like in tonight's dream.
Cressida slowly let out a breath, trying to ease her tense nerves.
Just then, she heard faint footsteps outside the door.
"Who's there?" she asked coldly, her eyes sharp and piercing.
The next moment, Verity pushed the door open and lowered her voice: "Ms. Hamilton, Miguel's men have caught Sean."
Cressida raised an eyebrow: "Did they kill him?"
Seeing Verity nod, she pressed her lips together.
"Good. Tomorrow, do as I told you."
Early the next morning, Cressida had Emma fetch Daryl and bring Michael along to go out.
Cressida waited for them in the carriage. After a while, Daryl arrived.
He lifted the curtain, his face showing both wariness and confusion.
"Ms. Hamilton, what's gotten into you, suddenly wanting to take Mr. Hamilton out?" His smile didn't reach his eyes.
Cressida stared at him: "I heard there's a famous doctor who can treat Michael's condition. I want to take him for a consultation. If you don't want to come, you can stay at the estate and wait for us."
Daryl hesitated for a moment.
He couldn't not go, because he was afraid Cressida would try to kill Michael again.
Right now, Michael was his best source of income - he couldn't afford any loss.
So Daryl quickly grabbed Michael's hand and got into the carriage.
Daryl sat far away from Cressida, clearly aware of her capabilities.
Daryl forced a laugh to boost his courage: "Ms. Hamilton, don't even think about trying anything. Sean will go to the authorities anytime."
Cressida's red lips curved into an icy cold smile: "What are you afraid of? I won't do anything to you."
Looking at her cool and sharp features, Daryl felt a chill down his spine, a bone-deep sense of dread.
He suddenly regretted coming to provoke Cressida - he should have let Sean come instead.
At that moment, at The Hamilton Mansion, Nanny rushed into Clio's courtyard.
"Mrs. Clio Hamilton, something terrible!" Nanny's tone was urgent. "I just saw with my own eyes - Ms. Cressida Hamilton took Mr. Michael Hamilton away, along with that scoundrel Daryl. They must be working together from inside and out to completely kill Mr. Michael Hamilton!"
The medicine bowl in Clio's hand fell to the ground, shattering with a loud crash.
She quickly stood up: "That wicked daughter! How dare she be so bold! Quick, go tell Mr. Patrick Hamilton, we'll chase after them right now."
After just two steps, she fell to the ground, her legs weak, her temples throbbing, her eyelids feeling heavy.
"Mrs. Clio Hamilton!" Nanny supported her. "The doctor said you can only rest in bed."
Clio pushed Nanny away: "Michael is my precious child. I can't let him die at Cressida's hands!"
With that, to make herself more alert, Clio grabbed a piece of broken porcelain from the ground and cut her finger with it.
The pain from her fingertips shot straight to her heart, instantly clearing her mind.
Without caring about anything else, she leaned on Nanny and stumbled into Patrick's courtyard.
"Mr. Hamilton, something terrible - Cressida is going to kill Michael! She's tricked him out of the house!"
When Clio burst in, Echo was feeding Patrick medicine.
Hearing this, Patrick sat up immediately: "What nonsense are you talking about now?"
Clio cried until her eyes were red: "It's true! They've already left. Daryl must be working with her - they're conspiring together to make Michael die in an accident outside."
Patrick was swayed by her words and began to doubt himself.
Would Cressida really have the nerve?
If not, why had she never taken Michael out before, but this time she's taking him along with Daryl?
Connecting all the dots, Patrick immediately got up and called to Echo: "Help me get dressed! Prepare the carriage!"
To find out where Cressida had gone, Patrick had Ingrid tied up and brought in for questioning.
Ingrid seemed frightened and said: "I only know Ms. Hamilton said she was going to the Welcome Inn in the city. I don't know anything else."
Patrick immediately took the guards and the whole group stormed out.
Clio walked to the door and, thinking quickly, instructed Nanny: "Go report this to the authorities!"
Clio wanted to see that wicked daughter Cressida thrown in jail!
Today happened to be the day Ethan came home to get fresh clothes. He and his mother Mabel had just arrived, planning to visit Cressida, when they saw Patrick and the others rushing out.
Mabel frowned: "What's happening?"
Ethan said: "Mother, I'll follow them and see, in case they're trying to harm Cressida again."
With that, he also rushed out.
"What's going on?"
Meanwhile.
In a secluded room at the Welcome Inn, Sean's corpse lay there.
Verity held Daryl down, stuffing a rag in his mouth.
Daryl knelt on the ground, screaming at the top of his lungs, but it only sounded like the buzzing of mosquitoes.
His eyes were bloodshot. As soon as he got off the carriage and saw Cressida enter the inn, he had felt something was wrong.
But when he tried to leave, it was already too late - he was seized and brought upstairs.
As soon as Daryl entered the room and saw Sean's body, he realized he had walked into a trap.
Cressida pulled Michael aside.
Like a magic trick, she opened her palm to reveal several round glass beads, gleaming with beautiful luster.
Michael's eyes lit up, reaching out to grab them.
Cressida moved them away and asked gently: "Michael, do you remember everything I just taught you?"
"If you do well, all these glass beads are yours, and I'll give you candy too."
With that, she popped an almond candy into his mouth.
Michael clapped his hands: "I remember! I remember!"
Two knocks came from the door. Verity immediately said: "Ms. Hamilton, they're here."
Cressida held her head high: "Let him go. You can leave."
She pulled a gold hairpin from her hair.
Verity untied Daryl and removed the rag from his mouth, then climbed out the window.
"You crazy woman!" Daryl cursed. He turned to run, but couldn't pull the door open. He pounded on it desperately, "Help! Someone help! Ms. Hamilton has killed someone!"
Clio shouted frantically throughout the Welcome Inn: "Michael! Michael!"
The lead guard Ronin heard the commotion upstairs and immediately climbed the stairs, with Patrick following behind.
Ronin heard Daryl's shouting and kicked the door open.
Seeing the scene inside the room, they all gasped.
