Chapter 141 Patrick Vomits Blood and Faints
Cressida nodded slightly. "Michael is really dead."
Donny opened his mouth to say something, but finally ended up sighing.
"Michael brought this on himself. There's nothing anyone can do about it."
Cressida said, "Donny, when mother knelt and begged you, it was because she owed you. Don't feel guilty about it. She was the one who used my father's influence to get Yves Smith to block Ethan's appointment letter."
Donny was stunned. "Why would she do that? We never wronged her in any way!"
Cressida pressed her pale lips together.
She said, "Some people don't need any excuse to harm you, just the fact you are doing well or seem to be better than them is enough . They can be that jealous."
Donny's face turned ashen.
Finally, he said, "Clio has really lost her mind!"
Cressida nodded. She excused herself to go get things done in the front hall.
Donny said he wanted to help her, but Cressida replied, "Not necessary right now. In the next few days, there will be chances for Donny to help receive guests."
In the front hall, Clio clutched at the officer's sleeve, her eyes red, hysterical.
"What did you say? That's not true, it can't be! How could Michael commit suicide?"
"Mrs. Hamilton, I'm just delivering the message. The Hamiltons needs to come claim Mr. Michael Hamilton's body so you can bring him home."
Clio swayed and was quickly held by Nanny.
Patrick had just been helped over. Hearing what the officer said, he nearly fainted on the spot.
"Impossible! How could Michael be dead? His crime wasn't punishable by death!"
The officer didn't want to say more and just asked, "Mr. Patrick Hamilton, who can come with me to receive Mr. Michael Hamilton?"
"I'll go! Let me go, I'm his mother!" Clio said.
However, seeing how crazed she looked, Patrick refused to let her go.
Just then Cressida entered the courtyard, and Patrick immediately said, "Cressida will go with you."
Turning his head, he told Cressida, "You must bring Michael back!"
Cressida nodded and left with the officer.
Clio tried to follow but was stopped by Patrick.
"Don't go making more trouble!"
"Mr. Hamilton, how could Michael commit suicide? Someone must have killed him!" Clio cried her heart out.
Patrick looked at the courtyard, he murmured to himself, "They must have made a mistake. His Majesty never said Michael had to die. How could Michael be dead..."
An hour later.
Patrick and Clio both sat in the main hall, holding their foreheads. They both looked utterly miserable.
Just then, Noah said, "Ms. Hamilton is back."
Patrick and Clio both stood up at the same time. Clio ran toward the main gate first.
However, before she reached the gate, she saw Cressida walking from the corridor.
Behind Cressida, Emma wiped away tears.
Clio grabbed Cressida's hand who looked at her calmly, as if wanting to say something.
In that instant, Clio became afraid. She was truly scared.
"Cressida, the authorities made a mistake, right? Michael isn't dead, they got the wrong person! Cressida, I'll never make things difficult for you again. Just bring Michael back safely. You must bring Michael back alive!"
Cressida raised her hand and brushed away Clio's grip on her wrist.
"Mother, Michael is really dead. He committed suicide. Begging me won't help."
As she spoke, Cressida stepped aside. Clio saw four servants carrying a coffin, walking toward them with heavy steps.
Clio collapsed to the ground with a thud, as her face trembled uncontrollably.
Patrick was being assisted by Noah at that moment. Watching this scene, he froze in place, his blood running cold, as if he fell into a frozen river.
Cressida said, "Put down the coffin and let my parents take one last look."
Hearing this, the servants set the coffin down with a bang.
They worked together to open the coffin lid. Clio had already staggered over.
Michael's eyes were closed, his neck covered in purple bruises.
"Michael! My son!" Clio's piercing scream echoed throughout the entire estate.
Patrick was also helped over. Seeing Michael's condition, he immediately spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed on the spot.
Cries rang out all around—
"Mr. Patrick Hamilton!" "Quick, call the doctor, Mr. Patrick Hamilton has fainted!"
Clio's hands gripped the coffin tightly as she called Michael's name repeatedly.
"Wake up, Michael, don't scare me." Then she grabbed the officer's clothes again. "Someone must have killed him. He wouldn't commit suicide, absolutely not!"
The officer said helplessly, "Mrs. Clio Hamilton, we've investigated. Mr. Michael Hamilton committed suicide. There are no signs of murder."
Clio then screamed hoarsely and cried endlessly.
Cressida just stood in the distant corridor, watching quietly.
She remembered her past life, when she was tied to a pole outside the city and Clio had passed by in a carriage.
That time the carriage stopped, and a spark of hope ignited in Cressida's heart.
But Clio lifted the curtain, looked at Cressida, and said in surprise, "You're still not dead?"
The carriage then drove away, dust rolling up from the wheels, and Cressida's heart completely shattered.
It seemed that in Clio's eyes, Michael was her child, while Cressida was just a stepping stone for the Hamilton family to gain glory and benefits.
Noah came over and asked, "Ms. Cressida Hamilton, what should we do now? Mr. Michael Hamilton's funeral..."
Patrick had collapsed, and Clio was in shock, so neither of them could handle it.
Cressida's eyes were deep. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Send letters to Prince Marshall and Princess Bella to inform them of the situation. Also, send word to the other elders of the Hamilton family and ask them to come ."
"Emma, go hire a funeral director and have the Perpetual Pavilion cleaned out to place Michael's coffin. It's close to the front gate, so guests can be directed there to pay their respects."
With her arrangements, the servants immediately went about their duties.
Soon, news that Michael had committed suicide and died in prison spread throughout all the noble families in Emerald City.
Some were shocked, some surprised, and some said he got what he deserved.
Marshall was the most confused.
He went to see Sophie again, saying, "We were about to rescue Michael, and his crime wasn't punishable by death anyway. Why did he suddenly commit suicide?"
Sophie's stoic face showed a grave and dignified expression.
"Either he was murdered, or someone forced him to die to protect the family."
"Father never said anyone from the Hamilton family had to take the blame. Besides, I heard that after father read Patrick's confession, he was very moved and said that only parents themselves know the bitterness and hardship of being parents. That clearly shows he was willing to forgive."
Sophie's expression changed suddenly. "I'm afraid it's Odette. Seeing we were about to succeed, She had someone kill Michael."
After speaking, Sophie immediately called a trusted aide. " Tell Marlon to personally investigate this matter! If Michael died unnaturally, I will definitely get to the bottom of it!"
