Chapter 63 Kane’s Wrath

Chapter 63 Kane’s Wrath

Evelyn's POV

The moment the phone screen went dark, the room fell into a deathly silence.

I tossed my phone onto the couch and curled myself into a pile of cushions, trying to use this position to fight off the chill that kept rising from the bottom of my heart.

I covered myself with a blanket, hoping to warm myself up a bit.

"It's okay, Evelyn. You'll feel better after some sleep."

I closed my eyes, forcing myself not to think about those nasty comments, not to think about what Kane's expression would be if he saw those words.

But I was really upset.

Just then, a sound came from the magic wardrobe .

The noise was so persistent that I had no choice but to open my eyes, only to find that the magic wardrobe had opened its doors.

The wardrobe was shaking, with a set of clothes inside. Seeing that I wasn't reacting, the noise got louder and louder.

Left with no choice, I walked over. It was a light gray casual outfit, soft and comfortable, with delicate silver vine patterns embroidered at the collar.

Seeing that I wasn't moving, the wardrobe kept shaking. "I don't want to go anywhere right now, or see anyone..."

But the wardrobe ignored my resistance and continued shaking. With no other option, I figured that since it was just a casual wear anyway, it wouldn't be uncomfortable to lie on the couch in it.

I carelessly threw it on, and just as I fastened the last button, there was a series of urgent knocks at the door.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Along with Kane's voice, "Evelyn, open the door!"

I didn't bother with shoes and ran barefoot to the door, turning the handle.

The door had barely opened a crack when a wave of scorching heat hit my face.

Kane stood outside the door, his chest heaving violently. He looked terrible.

"Kane..."

I was about to speak when he pulled me into his arms with such force I nearly couldn't breathe.

His arms locked tightly around my waist, lifting me completely off the ground, as if afraid I would disappear the moment he let go.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry..."

He buried his face in the crook of my neck, his burning breath on my skin carrying a hint of suppressed sobs, "I didn't know anything... I let you go through all this alone..."

I froze. His hands were clearly trembling, making my heart ache too.

"You... you know?"

I asked softly, my voice uncertain.

Kane didn't speak, just held me tighter.

After a long while, he finally released me, cupping my face with both hands, his eyes locked on mine. "Nebula Chat."

I lowered my head, not daring to look into his eyes. "Those photos... and the comments..."

His thumb gently caressed my cheek, as if trying to smooth away my unhappiness.

"Tell me, who did this?"

"And your injuries? You..."

"I'm really fine, and I don't..." I didn't want him to get into conflict with those "bad people" because of me.

Kane stared at me. "Who?"

I had no choice but to continue, "It might be Lycan Clan, might be Robert."

"It's them!" Kane laughed coldly, that smile full of murderous intent.

He let go and turned to leave.

"Kane!"

I instinctively grabbed the corner of his clothes. "Where are you going?"

"To take out the trash."

I panicked and rushed over to block his way. "Kane, you can't go!"

He spun around suddenly, gripping my shoulders, his eyes full of heartache and anger. "Evelyn, they've bullied you like this, how can I stand it?"

"What if something happens to you? What would I do?" I clutched at him, speaking anxiously.

Kane looked at me, the fury in his eyes gradually subsiding, replaced by deep helplessness.

He sighed, reached out to pull me into his arms, and gently patted my back.

"Don't be afraid. I just feel bad for you."

"I know, but I can't watch you get hurt because of those people..." I didn't dare continue. I leaned against his chest, listening to his violent heartbeat.

Kane's body suddenly stiffened.

"I don't care what they say. I'm used to it. But you can't be talked about like that." Kane seemed to know what I was thinking and spoke seriously.

"I care, just like you care about me."

I lifted my head and looked seriously into his eyes. "Kane, I don't want you to become that kind of person. I want you to be the Kane who takes me flying in the clouds, not a murderer."

Kane was silent for a long time.

Finally, he sighed helplessly, pressing his forehead against mine.

"Alright."

He gave in. "I won't kill him."

"Really?"

I breathed a sigh of relief.

"But..."

Kane's tone shifted, a cold smile curving at the corner of his mouth. "If I don't teach him a lesson, they'll just hurt you again."

"So what do you want to..."

"Come with me."

Kane took my hand and strode downstairs. "I'm going to let him know that some lines can't be crossed."

He pulled me along as I jogged all the way to the student cafeteria.

By then, the cafeteria was bustling with activity.

As soon as we entered, we heard a burst of laughter from the corner.

"Did you guys see that post? Evelyn must be so pissed!"

"Serves her right! Who told her to act all high and mighty, insisting on hanging around with that Phoenix Clan freak!"

"Exactly! What's so good about that Phoenix Clan freak anyway?"

"What do you think was happening when she got those injuries..."

Robert was at the head of the group, and their words were disgusting.

He sat in the middle of a long table, surrounded by several lackeys, holding up his phone and proudly showing off that post.

Kane said nothing.

He just held my hand and walked toward Robert, step by step.

I saw that the moment Robert saw us—perhaps scared by the fury emanating from Kane—the smile on his face gradually froze. Sensing something was wrong, he instinctively tried to stand up and back away.

The aura around Kane was terrifying, but I knew it was to protect me.

"What... what do you want?" Robert's voice was clearly trembling.

Kane completely ignored his words, directly reaching out to grab Robert by the throat, lifting him up and slamming him hard against the wall.

"Cough, cough..."

Robert's face instantly turned red. His hands desperately clawed at Kane's arm, but it was like an ant trying to move a tree—he couldn't move at all.

"What did you just say? And how are you going to explain what's on Nebula Chat?"

Kane's voice was low and hoarse, those golden eyes burning with fury.
