Happy for you

I had never been as invested in someone's birthday like I was in Felix's. Since he only gave me one week to prepare, I was feeling the pressure to come up with a surprise apart from the cake he had asked me.
Throughout the week I went back and forth on what I should get him. Nothing seemed special or meaningful enough. He told me he didn't want anything, only to spend his day with me. That couldn't be true, surely there was something he wanted...
Maybe what he really wanted was the best sex of his life. What other reason did he choose to take us to a cold environment where we'd want to stay the whole day in bed?
The wheels in my head started churning. Maybe I could give him a taste of his own medicine, make him feel what he made me feel. The last time I tried it I failed, but I was confident I could redeem myself this time.
As I packed a bag for the three-day trip, I was flooded with ideas. I knew where I needed to get all the supplies I needed. The shopping list added to a hefty sum, but Felix deserved it. After all, he had paid for the whole stay at the cabin, this was the least I could do.
When Friday the 11th finally arrived, I couldn't contain my excitement. Since Felix worked until four, we'd only leave at around a quarter past five since he still had to go home and change.
Luckily for me, Sam and Claudia weren't home to ask me why I was baking a cake in the middle of the afternoon. It took me two hours to bring my vision to reality. I made a small dark chocolate cake, perfect for two people, and added frosting and raspberries on top and all around. I sprinkled icing sugar on the top to create a snow effect. Carefully, I transferred it to a cake carrier, hiding inside it a candle.
When Felix texted me that he had arrived, I dashed outside, carrying my bag over my shoulders and the cake in my hands. I threw my bag in the backseat and took my seat next to Felix, holding the cake in my lap so it would be protected during the bumpy ride.
Before speeding off, Felix placed his hands on my cheeks and kissed me, his lips stretching into a smile as we kissed. He was so excited and happy it made my stomach twist.
"Got everything?" He asked, placing his hand on my thigh.
"Yup!" I said, lifting the cake carrier to my face. "I have the most important thing of the night."
He smirked, pushing the lever into first gear. I smiled to myself. Little did he know the cake wasn't the most important thing of the night but what I had hidden inside my bag.
It took us four hours to get to our destination so we stopped along the way to get dinner. I assisted Felix in the GPS since neither of us had ever been to that location and since night had already fallen we couldn't rely on landmarks to guide us.
Felix told me a little more about where we were staying as we got closer. The cabin we'd stay in was owned and run by a couple who had quite an impressive estate and wanted to monetize the land they didn't use by building a few cabins and renting them. When we were about ten minutes away, Felix called the owners to let them know we were arriving.
"Ugh, I feel terrible bothering them... It's so late already, they're probably having dinner."
"Don't worry, I let them know beforehand we'd arrive late."
The estate was remote, approximately 20 minutes away by car from the nearest town. That meant that we'd be completely surrounded by nature, isolated from the rest of the world. When we arrived at the front gate, Felix stopped the car and waited for it to open. My mouth dropped once he drove inside. It felt like we were entering a forest, the impossibly high trees covering up the sky above us until we reached a clearing where the main house was located.
Felix parked to greet the owners and get the keys to our cabin and directions on how to get there. Since we were literally staying in someone's property, I thought it would be polite to at least introduce myself, so I followed Felix, the frigid night hurting my bones.
The couple greeted us with handshakes and smiles. It dawned on me later that this was the first time Felix introduced us as a couple to strangers, but at the time it felt so natural that it didn't stand out to me. The older couple didn't seem taken aback by our age difference either, at least they didn't comment on it. They were probably used to hosting people who were in secret relationships anyway.
After explaining to us how everything was run, they gave us the keys to our cabin as well as a map of the ground trails so we'd know where it was. They also gave us the keys to a four wheeler so we could explore the outdoors safely. Felix hadn't told me about this, and even though it was a bit intimidating to ride a four wheeler in the dark, I was beyond excited.
We put all our belongings in the small trunk that also served as a seat-rest for me and waved our hosts goodbye.
"Do you know how to drive this thing?" I asked as I held on tightly to him, my cheek squished into his back.
"How hard can it be?" He said, adjusting his helmet. Oh God, this was gonna be interesting.
Somehow, we reached our cabin without a scratch.
Felix was a good driver, but I didn't anticipate how good. Looking around, the nature that engulfed us was completely black, not a light in sight. The only thing we could hear were the crickets and the rustling of the trees.
We stepped onto the porch, a single yellow light turned on by the door. The log cabin looked like a dream from the outside, but I couldn't wait to get inside and warm up. Felix gave me the keys to open the door while he carried our stuff inside.
"Oh Felix, look at this!" I said, completely in awe at how meticulously thought out the cabin was. The exposed beams, the dark-wood floor and furniture, the pastel palette, the blending of the old and the new... It was a house out of a fairy tale.
"This is amazing! Oh my god, an iron stove! Oh, it's so warm and cozy in here. Oh, and look, the kitchen is so cute! There's even a second floor! I feel like I am in a tree house. Oh... Felix, look at this! They left us wine. This is literally a dream."
As I pointed out all the amazing features of the cabin, gradually taking off layers of clothing since it was so warm inside, Felix kept quiet, a shy smile creeping on his lips.
"What? What's that smile for?" I asked, taking off my shoes. When I touched the floor with my bare feet, I realized it was heated. Was I in heaven?
"I'm just happy you're happy." He said, taking off his pullover. As he said this, I saw the cheese board on the coffee table and completely lost my mind.
