CHAPTER 2

GETTING A JOB AT THE SHOP OF DIAMOND MERCHANT

Sajan reached the shop and stood up. His father started talking to the merchant.

Sajan’s father said – We are residents of Kaligarh. My son wants to work at your shop. He is very hardworking and honest.

The merchant said – A boy has left our work a few days ago. We can hire this boy here for work.

The merchant further said – Has he ever done this kind of work?

Sajan’s father said- “no”.

The merchant said – OK.

We can hire this boy, but will give him 2 rupees a day’s wages, as well as food for both times.

Sajan’s father said yes to this. The merchant gave a loud voice to Sajan. Sajan came running immediately. The merchant gave him the task of cleaning the shop on the first day.

Sajan bid farewell to his father. His father said while going – My Son, take care of yourself. Do not worry about us. After this, Sajan started working. Sajan took a cloth in his hand and first cleaned the glass of the shop. After this, he swept the shop. He cleaned the entire shop within an hour. The merchant was very happy with his work.

It was already noon. It was time to eat food. The merchant called the Sajan to eat food. Sajan had brought food with him, so he gestured with a hand and said, “I have brought food from home today”.

OK – the merchant said. We sit together and have our food. Sajan and merchant both sit on the dining mat. After that Sajan gave a little gourd vegetable to the merchant from his tiffin and took some food himself and started eating.

The merchant said – “Your home made vegetable is very tasty”.

Sajan said – “Yes, my mother cooks very tasty food”.

Merchant – Yes. You told the truth.

The merchant also gave the food of his house to the Sajan. The merchant brought the mango pickle.

Sajan said – I love mango pickle. Thank you.

After eating, the merchant took some rest. Then, Sajan was given more work. Whatever merchant would give to Sajan, Sajan would do it well. Gradually, the merchant also started to hand over important work to the Sajan. Sajan used to complete every task well. Sajan also learned how to talk to the customers visiting the shop. The merchant always used to say – If you do not speak properly to the customers, then the customers will not come back to the shop. So you should always talk well with customers. You should be honest with them. Sajan was obedient and obeyed every command of the merchant.

After working continuously for 2 months, the merchant said to Sajan – You are working with great honesty. After you come to this shop, I have gained a lot in business. So from today onwards you will get 5 rupees per day salary. This is the result of your passion.

Sajan was very happy to hear this. Within 2 months, he had won the trust of the merchant, learned to talk to customers, learned almost all the work of the shop.

Today, 2 months later, when there were no customers in the shop, Sajan was sitting and thinking

“My Ramaiya” | She will be very happy to know that I have started earning well here. If I continue to do similar work at this place for one year, then I will have so much money that Ramaiya can marry me. I will get my wedding done with pomp.

Now Sajan’s intention to marry had become stronger. He was confident that he would also become rich and would marry Ramaiya. Thinking this, he decided that he would continue working like this for a year continuously and after earning a lot of money, he would go to the village and marry Ramaiya.
