Chapter 84
**Strength in Preparation**
The anxiety in the camp was palpable. As Kai yelled commands to the warriors, his piercing voice reverberated throughout the training grounds. His magnetic presence served as a source of strength for the pack. Observing him from a distance, I felt both excited and uneasy. I felt the pressure of my personal obligations pressing down on me.
It felt impossible, yet Kai trusted me to get the healers ready for what lay ahead. The goal of healing was to fix injuries, not to get ready to destroy. But even healers had to battle during wartime.
In a remote area of the camp, away from the frenzy of training, I assembled the healers. They had a mixture of fear and resolve on their faces, and I knew it was my responsibility to direct their energy in a constructive way.
"We're not just healers anymore," I said, maintaining my composure in spite of my internal conflict. "We are guardians. In addition to healing injuries, it is our responsibility to make sure we are resilient enough to fight the fight ourselves. The pack will also tumble if we do.
Elara, one of the younger healers, timidly held up her hand. However, Luna, we have never fought before. What if we lack sufficient strength?
I moved in closer, looking her in the eye. "Elara, strength is more than just ability or strength. It stems from your desire to keep the people you care about safe. You just need to discover your own strength. You all possess it.
I nodded and started teaching them the fundamental defensive techniques Kai had taught me in our training sessions. It was sufficient to give the healers a fighting chance, but it was a far cry from the rigorous combat drills the warriors were going through.
As I demonstrated how to deflect an attack, I told them to keep their postures grounded. Make use of your intuition. Creating adequate space to retreat or defend someone else is more important than overwhelming your opponent.
I moved among the healers as they practiced, correcting their forms and encouraging them. They started to get better despite their initial hesitancy, becoming more confident and quick in their motions.
After several hours, the camp was bathed in a warm, golden glow as the sun started to set. I signaled a pause so that everyone could take a nap. I felt a glimmer of pride as the healers sat in a circle, calmly conversing. Like me, they were discovering their strength.
Kai came over, his face unreadable. "How are they doing?"
Looking around at the gathering, I confessed, "Better than I expected." "Even though they aren't aware of it yet, they are determined."
His eyes lingered on me as he nodded. "And you? How are things going for *you*?
I hurriedly answered, "I'm fine," but the reality was much more nuanced. "This is where I should be, am I right?"
Kai looked at me for a while, his sharp eyes seemed able to see right through my barriers. "Luna, you're going above and beyond what anyone could expect of you. However, you don't have to bear this burden alone.
Although his comments were consoling, I didn't have time to think about them. We turned to see a scout coming toward us, his face frantic and pale, after hearing a disturbance close to the camp's border.
The scout collapsed, leaning over to gather his breath, "They're moving." "The forces of the adversary Alpha are advancing. They will arrive by daybreak.
Fear swept through the group, but Kai's face remained stern. His voice was forceful but low as he turned to face me. "Luna, keep them quiet. Panic is unaffordable.
I nodded and started to approach the healers. “Listen, everybody!” My voice broke over the growing murmuring as I called. We had been getting ready for this. We must remain vigilant and prepared. We stand united regardless of what occurs.
The healers nodded, a resolute resolve taking the place of their terror. To keep their minds busy, I assigned them jobs like putting up a triage area, assembling emergency kits, and arranging supplies.
The camp was bustling with activities as the night went on. The air became heavy with expectation, patrols upped their efforts, and warriors polished their weapons.
Together, Kai and I coordinated tactics and made sure the camp was secure in every way. There was a peculiar sense of solidarity in spite of the turmoil, a tie that got stronger by the second.
We were prepared as the first rays of morning appeared. Or as prepared as we possibly could be.
With an authoritative voice, Kai gathered the pack in the clearing. We are defending our home today. We battle for one another as much as for our own survival. Have faith in your strength, your training, and your pack. We are unstoppable when we work together.
Everyone was enthused by his comments, and the woodland reverberated with their applause. My heart was racing with a mixture of fear and resolve as I stood among the healers.
Kai drew me away as we scattered to take our places. "Be careful, Luna. Without you, I couldn't do this.
I reassured him, "I'll be fine," but as I made my way back to the healers, the impact of his words remained.
The sounds of an incoming army filled the woodland as we waited in nervous quiet. Ready for battle, my wolf roused restlessly.
Then they were there, rising like a tide of blackness out of the shadows. The size of the opposing Alpha's army much outstripped our own. We didn't falter, though.
The war started when the first sound of steel hitting metal was heard. I led the healers from where I stood close to the triage area, making sure they were safe as they cared for the injured.
The enemy, however, persisted. We couldn't remain on the sidelines indefinitely, I realized as the battle got closer.
"Stand up for yourselves!" Using everything I had taught them, I yelled. "They underestimate our strength!"
Fear gave way to resolve as the healers stepped up to the plate. By working together, we repelled attacks and shielded the wounded.
A figure stood in front of me among the confusion. His eyes were shining with ill intent, and it was Alpha's Beta, the rival.
He sneered and walked toward me, saying, "Luna, you can't hide forever."
Bringing my wolf charging forward, I squared my shoulders. "I'm not hiding."
His might almost overpowered me as we clashed. However, I used all of my might and the principles Kai had taught me to fight.
The noise was overwhelming as the conflict raged all around us. The Beta staggered back as I was able to land a punch. But a searing agony pierced my side as I shifted to exploit my advantage.
With a gasp, I dropped to one knee. With a sly smile, Beta lifted his weapon for the last blow.
Then, suddenly, he was tackled by a blur of movement, which sent him falling.
Kai was standing between us, his angry eyes blazing. With a lethal warning in his voice, he hissed, "You'll regret that."
The Beta sprang at him, and they engaged in a vicious duel. Clinging to my side, I stumbled to my feet.
For all of us, the fight was far from ended.
And I reali
zed that this was only the beginning as the sun rose higher, illuminating the mayhem.
