Chapter 51

The restaurant in the Guest House where Jacob and Mark dined was a refined establishment, adorned with crystal chandeliers that cast a warm glow over the furnishings and incredible artwork that beautified the walls.

It was a place where the city's elite came to see and be seen, and as they entered fully, the murmurs of recognition from the patrons echoed through the elegant space.

It was the place he brought Noemi to, the night Nathan betrayed her.

They were escorted to a VIP area, a secluded corner with a breathtaking view of the city skyline through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Most of the people around seemed to know Jacob, some offered greetings and nods of acknowledgment as they passed by.

It was clear that Jacob was a well-known figure in the city's social scene, and this realisation brought a wistful smile to Mark's face.

Mark could feel a touch of memories as he remembered the influential and charismatic Jacob he had known back in college.

"Dude, You have not changed a bit." He stated, as his eyes sparkled with admiration.

Jacob smiled, admitting the familiarity. "It is good to be back in the city. But you are right; there is so much more you are yet to see."

As they settled into their seats, a beautifully dressed waitress approached their table with a welcoming smile. She asked, "May I take your orders, gentlemen?"

Mark and Jacob ordered a variety of dishes to savour together. They decided to explore the diverse options the restaurant offered to make their reunion more special.

For appetisers, they began with a shared plate of bruschetta, with toasted baguette slices topped with ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil.

The flavours of this classic Italian dish were a perfect start to their meal.

And as for their main courses, Jacob opted for a succulent grilled salmon fillet with a lemon-dill sauce, served alongside roasted vegetables and creamy mashed potatoes.

Mark, on the other hand, chose a perfectly cooked ribeye steak with a rich mushroom sauce, accompanied by a side of garlic-infused mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus.

They paired their dishes with a bottle of fine red wine, carefully selected from the restaurant's extensive wine list, enhancing their overall dining experience.

Also, for dessert, they shared a portion of tiramisu, a classic Italian dessert featuring layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese, dusted with cocoa powder.

The sweet and creamy dessert was the perfect way to conclude their memorable meal.

Their food arrived, and they started to savour the delicious dishes before them. Mark couldn't help but be impressed by the exquisite presentation and flavours.

"This food is incredible. I have really missed the city's culinary scene." He commented.

Jacob watched with amusement as Mark thoroughly enjoyed his meal. "You always did have a great appetite, dude. Some things never change."

"Well, the food is just too good to resist." Mark grinned between bites.

Throughout their dining experience, they savoured the exquisite flavours and shared stories of their lives, rekindling the bond of friendship that had endured through the years.

The lovely meal and heartfelt conversation were a testament to their enduring friendship.

Mark looked around the restaurant and said, "The city has changed so much. The streets, the people, everything seems different."

Jacob chuckled, his eyes filled with warmth. "You have got to experience the city with fresh eyes. It has evolved, but it's still the same place we once called home."

As the evening was close, their conversation flowed.

Jacob looked at Mark and asked, he felt a little bit sad. "Mark, when are you leaving?"

"Are you missing me already, dude?" Mark laughed playfully.

Jacob chuckled, but his eyes were sincere. "No, it is not that. It is just that... there is something I need to talk to you about."

"What is on your mind? You know you can always talk to me." Mark's playful demeanour stopped and focused on Jacob.

Jacob paused for a moment, trying to find the right words to use. "It is about Noemi and I, there is something you should know."

The mention of Noemi brought a sense of gravity to the conversation, and Mark became very curious.

Mark leaned forward, his eyes darting a mix of curiosity and excitement. "A wedding, Jacob? You are getting married to Noemi? That is incredible news! I am excited for you."

Jacob had just told him about his wedding plans with Noemi when he gave Mark their invitation card.

"Yes, buddy. Noemi and I are planning to tie the knot, and I can't wait. You have got to be there. You are going to best me that day." Jacob said, his smile widened.

"Of course, I will be there. It is an honour, and I would not miss it for the world. I am genuinely happy for you dude." Mark said excitedly.

They clinked their glasses in celebration, and Mark felt a profound joy for his friend.

Their friendship had survived the test of time and distance, and now, he would stand by Jacob's side as his best man on this significant day.

"I can not wait to meet your Noemi and be a part of your special day," Mark said, with utmost sincerity in his voice.

At that instant, Jacob's expression switched, and he looked at Mark with earnestness. "Mark, there is something else I need to talk to you about. My father is not in support of my relationship with Noemi and there is this James guy aslo."

Mark furrowed his brow, and he leaned in closer, eager to hear what Jacob had to say about his father and James.

"Jacob, what is going on? Why did Mr. Gareth disapprove of your relationship with Noemi? And who is James?"

"He believes she is not fit for me and she is like other girls out there who are nothing but gold diggers." Jacob heaved a sigh.

"Oh poor Noemi, what do you now intend to do?" Mark felt worried.

"I don't know and I don't care." Jacob said, his voice determined.

"I think you need to make him see and understand that Noemi is totally different." Mark suggested from his own point of view.

Jacob proceeded to share the revelations Noemi had made about her connection to James, her past involvement with him, and the possibilities of how he might want to disrupt their relationship.

Mark listened intently, the weight of James's return sinking in as he realised something needed to be done ASAP.

As Jacob finished explaining, Mark released a sigh, and his expression was filled with concern.

"Jacob, this is really complicated. Now that James is back in the picture, I believe he is willing to go to any lengths to interfere in your relationship. What do you plan to do?"

Jacob glanced at Mike, "I will not let James come between us. Noemi and I have something special, and I am willing to fight for it."

Mark nodded in support, "I will be here to support you every step of the way. Together, we shall find a way to deal with James and protect your relationship."
