Chapter 47 Losing Control
Austin didn't fully understand, but Derek looked weak and exhausted. Mary, who had been secretly observing from outside, was worried. She was on the verge of going in. However, at the moment she wiped away her tears, she saw the disgust and disdain on Nora's face.
It was Mary who intentionally brought Nora into the hospital room. Mary wanted Nora to understand her own position and willingly give up Austin.
The matters of the young should be resolved by the young!
For the sake of her grandson and granddaughter-in-law's happiness, Mary felt that she had to endure. She had to wait for the right time to go in.
In reality, Derek was very ill. Only Mary knew the specifics. It seemed as though he wouldn't live much longer.
She didn't want to burden her descendants too much, and she also didn't want to believe that Derek was about to leave her. But it was Derek's wish.
Once those people knew that Derek was close to death, who knows what kind of trouble they would stir up. Before that happened, Derek would have everything arranged. Therefore, he announced to the entire Lewis family that he had only fainted due to high blood pressure. He would wake up after resting for two days.
"Grandfather," Queenie held Derek's cold hand. She choked up, "Grandfather, I'm sorry I'm late."
Derek was in too much pain to speak. Plus, he was also unfamiliar with Queenie's face.
Austin leaned down to Derek and quietly explained, "Grandfather, she is Queenie. She's your favorite granddaughter-in-law, Queenie."
Nora, who was standing behind them, turned ferocious upon hearing this introduction.
Queenie was already in distress, and she suddenly grabbed Austin, pleading, "Austin, I beg you, let me give Grandfather a massage!"
"Austin, believe me."
Queenie wiped away her tears with her hand, "I can really help alleviate Grandfather's pain."
Austin's expression was stern. He was about to refuse.
Nora rushed over and, seeing Derek's condition, she paled, "Grandfather!"
"Austin, it would be safer to call a doctor. Look at Grandfather's complexion, it's so dark."
Austin made a motion to press the emergency alarm.
"Wait." Mary suddenly reprimanded, "All of you, step aside."
"Nana?" Nora looked puzzled.
Queenie's eyes began to mist over. She reached out to support Mary. Her voice trembled as she spoke, "Nana, please believe me. I can truly alleviate Grandfather's pain. I learned my massage techniques from a master and I have a certificate."
Queenie, in a panic, tried to search for the certificate in her bag. But she searched for a while and couldn't find her certificate. She must have forgotten to bring it.
Austin furrowed his brow. He looked at Derek, struggling to breathe, and then at Queenie.
"Stop looking, Queenie. No matter what, I won't let you touch my grandfather. Grandma, let's call the doctor quickly." Austin nudged Nora. Clearly, he wanted to give credit to her. "Nora, you are more familiar with Grandpa's condition, so you go call the doctor."
"Oh, okay." Nora hurriedly ran out.
Mary, supported by Queenie, came to Derek's bedside. She held Derek's hand and softly said, "Derek, don't be afraid. You will be fine, you just have high blood pressure. The doctor already lowered your blood pressure yesterday. You, you just eat too much normally. Are you feeling uncomfortable in your stomach? Yesterday, I shouldn't have let you eat those things."
Mary continued talking and soothing Derek with her hand.
Derek couldn't say a word. He could only look at her. Occasionally, he would look at Queenie with a confused look on his face.
"Grandma, Grandpa's condition is not just high blood pressure. He feels chest tightness and shortness of breath, and there is blood stagnation in his stomach." Queenie's eyes turned red in urgency. "Grandma, we can't delay Grandpa's condition anymore."
"Grandma, please believe me. I can really relieve Grandpa's symptoms." Queenie truly regretted it. If she hadn't been stubborn and had come to see Derek with him that night instead of arguing with Austin, maybe Derek's condition wouldn't be so bad.
Austin was about to go and pull stubborn Queenie over when a large group of people came to the door. They were all doctors.
"Austin, the doctors are here!" Nora gasped, standing at the front.
"No one is allowed in!" Mary suddenly looked sternly at the door. "You all get out!"
Everyone stood still, afraid to move. The doctors looked at each other, and even Nora was startled.
"Grandma!" Austin wanted to persuade Mary.
But she ignored him and turned her gaze to Queenie. "Queenie, can you really save your grandfather?"
Queenie nodded heavily.
"Don't all stand around here. You are all useless!" Mary got angry. "What are you standing here for? Get out!" Mary was furious, and no one dared to argue with her. So, the doctors left one by one.
But there was one bold doctor who reminded Mary, "Mrs. Mary, Mr. Derek's condition is very dangerous, you have to think it through."
Mary sneered, "Do I need you to tell me? Don't waste my time, get out!"
"Grandma!" Austin and Nora both spoke at the same time.
Only Queenie remained extremely calm. She knew Mary was giving her a chance. And Queenie didn't waste it, she immediately took Derek's hand and started sensing his pulses.
Mary closed her eyes. She felt extremely exhausted. "You all leave too, only Queenie is needed here."
Austin saw Mary insisting on this, and he had no choice. So, he could only warn loudly, "Queenie, if anything happens to Grandpa, I won't let you off."
Nora also understood what Queenie wanted to do. So, she couldn't help but speak up, "Grandma, I know you like Queenie. So, you are willing to comply with her, follow her, and spoil her. But this is different, this involves Grandpa's life, you can't mess around."
Actually, Nora wanted to laugh in her heart, ’Queenie, you don't have that ability. You are pretending that you can save Grandpa. Do you think you are a skilled doctor? I've never heard of Queenie having medical skills. If she had medical skills, wouldn't her newborn daughter, Ariel, not almost die?’
"Queenie, I know you want to help Grandpa and Grandma, you want to leave a good impression on them, and you want to change Austin's opinion of you. I understand, you want to be Austin's wife, and you want to make achievements. But you can't randomly treat Grandpa as an experiment."
Nora was implying that Queenie didn't really care about Derek's condition, but wanted to please the Lewis family. She wanted to secure her position as Austin's wife.
Nora advised Mary again, "Grandma, please don't be confused."
Mary's face was already quite ugly. She slowly lifted her head and looked at Nora. Although she didn't say a word, her momentum was enough to intimidate.
Nora was frightened and took two steps back involuntarily.
Queenie furrowed her brows and said, "Grandma, they are so noisy. They will affect me in treating Grandpa."
Nora remained silent. She thought to herself, "You damn woman, you are becoming more and more excessive. I want to see how you explain later!"
Mary waved her hand at Nora, "You let Austin take you out."
"Grandma!" Nora didn't give up. Her teeth almost bit her lip. She just couldn't accept Mary doting on Queenie like this.
Mary's anger erupted completely, "If you don't want your grandfather to get better, then keep causing trouble!"
"Grandma, I am just too worried about Grandpa. Shall we call a doctor?"
Mary became angry when she saw her grandson standing still. She scolded, "Austin, do I have to make a call for you to listen to me?"
Only then did Austin come to persuade Nora, "Nora, let's go out first." He had been paying attention to Queenie all along. Her serious appearance didn't seem fake.
Queenie was completely unaffected by them. As she felt Derek's pulse, her brow furrowed tighter and tighter.
Outside the hospital room, Nora cried with grievances, "Austin, is Grandma misunderstanding me?"
"No, she isn't. Don't overthink it, she is just too worried about Grandpa."
"No, Grandma never liked me. No matter how much I did, she never liked me," Austin was annoyed, but he still comforted her.
"Grandpa is sick and Grandma is also worried. Don't argue with Grandma. Go find those doctors just now and have them ready to save Grandpa at any time," he said. Austin's thinking was clearer! "Mm."
Nora couldn't help but complain, "Queenie is too much. Anyway, she shouldn't have used Grandpa as an experiment."
Austin rubbed his forehead. Through the frosted glass, he could only see moving figures. He knew Mary's temperament better than anyone. She never easily changed her mind.
When Derek and Mary started their own business together when they were young, they mostly listened to Mary. Mary was more dominant, and Derek was more gentle and doted on Mary. So no one dared to oppose what she said.
The waiting time was undoubtedly long. Austin smoked a lot outside the ward.
“Cough, cough, cough!” It wasn't until there was an earth-shattering coughing sound from inside that he panicked and kicked the door open. Nora followed in.
They saw a blaze of red as soon as they entered. Derek had coughed up several mouthfuls of blood. Mary was already crying in panic. "Derek, Derek!"
Austin almost lost his sanity, "Queenie!"
