Epilogue
Alexis:
Nineteen Months Later
“Don’t forget the Martins will be coming in a little bit late,” I say to my front desk person, Lisa. She’s a new hire, along with several other people, and fortunately, the B&B can comfortably accommodate that now. We’re turning into a steady employer for Sage Valley, and our B&B recently made a top-five list for one of the big travel magazines. That made business increase, and I expect we’ll be fully booked for the Light Festival before the end of August.
I lean against the doorway, rubbing my lower back as I do so. The baby’s pressing on my bladder, and he seems to enjoy kicking my spine right now. I moan a little bit at the discomfort, and Lisa looks up at me with concern.
“Should I call Mr. Wilson, Mrs. Wilson?”
I smile at her. “Remember, you can call me Alexis.” Lisa’s a sweet young girl, who just graduated high school in June, so she isn’t comfortable with addressing me or Jace by our first names. I can see why she might be hesitant with Jace, since he can be intimidating, especially when he’s in full uniform or his flight suit, but I like to think I’m a sweetheart.
“Yes, Alexis.” She stumbles just a bit. “Should I call Mr. Wils… Jace?”
I shake my head. “No, it’s normal. He’ll be home any minute anyway. I think I will have a nap though.” At her nod, I leave the reception area and head to our apartment. I stop to admire the pretty nursery on the way down the hall. Jace just painted it a few days ago, on his last weekend off.
The light blue walls go nicely with the blue-and-white-striped wallpaper, and the blue crib. It started out white, but he painted that as well at my request. Of course, he wouldn’t let me help. He doesn’t want to risk anything happening to me or our son. I certainly can’t complain about that.
I go to the master bedroom after admiring the nursery once more. It’s so new that it still requires me to look at it multiple times to believe it’s all come together so nicely. I still can’t believe I’ll be having an actual baby to use that nursery in a few months—at least until he kicks my bladder again. Then I can believe it.
I’m too tired to think about much though, so I strip out of my shorts and shirt and lie down on the bed. I hear the door open a few minutes later, and Jace creeps inside. He’s walking softly, probably to avoid waking me.
“Alexis, are you awake?” he asks softly.
“For now,” I say with a chuckle.
He comes to stand over me at the bed. “Lisa said you’re having pain.”
I sigh, reminding myself to have a talk with Lisa so she’s not so indiscreet. Seeing how alarmed Jace is, I know he’s too delicate to hear about some of the normal aches and pains of pregnancy. “It’s just my back, and his position. Would you mind giving me a backrub?”
I can’t help noticing he strips off his clothes before he gets in the bed with me to rub my back. He starts out doing just that, and it feels amazing. I moan and groan as the tension starts to leave my muscles, and it makes the baby shift slightly. Suddenly, I feel no discomfort at all. “So much better,” I say with a moan.
“Maybe I should rub a little lower, just to make sure you continue to feel better.” There’s a husky note in his voice, and it’s clear what he means. I happily part my thighs as he moves a hand lower to finger me. He’s a generous lover, and an amazing husband. I wonder how I got so lucky as I surrender to the orgasms he clearly wants to give me before his cock slides inside me. It’s going to be another wonderful afternoon wrapped in Jace’s arms, and I have no doubts about our ability to last into the future.
