Chapter 50 Battle Of Wills
Chapter 50 Battle Of Wills
Malik’s POV
My hands balled into fists and all of a sudden, my jaw was clenched.
Had Dr. Phillip not been an elderly person, I would have walked up to him and beat the ever living shit out of him.
“And everyone calls me insensitive.” I shook my head, looking at the both of them with utter disgust.
“Cross, you can say what you like, but I’ve been well aware about your relationship with Anita in the past. Some woman who popped out of the blue is not going to come and erase everything that you guys have. I was hoping you would come to your senses, but you needed help with that, and so I had to step in.” Dr. Phillip said, and the more he spoke, the more my blood fucking boiled.
I took a couple of steps backwards, my gaze going in a to and fro movement between them.
“Now, Dr. Phillip, you stay the fuck away from me and mind your damn business or else, I will tell the whole team what you did.” I turned around to walk away, but I paused all of a sudden.
“And you,” I pointed to Anita. “I bought and customized that Lamborghini for you in hopes that you’ll finally leave me be. The next time you try anything silly with me or my girlfriend, I will get the court involved.” I spat, walking out of the court with my head held high.
On the drive back to the mansion, I was high on adrenaline. How I was functioning without my crutch was a wonder.
Yes, Anita and I had a good time before Sloane came into the picture, but I didn’t want anything to do with that anymore.
Everyone labeled me as the bad guy, the user and they were constantly playing games with me. Now, it had gotten to the point where they were using me. Who was the user?
I pushed the accelerator pedal down, the sound of the tires screeching against the asphalt like music to my fucking ears.
In no time, I was parking in the mansion’s garage and on my way to the gym to punch something until my knuckles bled and my heart beat so fast it almost popped out of my chest.
I stepped into the living room. Instead of everywhere being pitch black and completely silent, I could see the low and warm amber light glowing from somewhere.
Like a moth to a flame, I made my way there, and that was where I saw her. She was sitting on the bar stool at the marble bar, her laptop screen open. It casted a blue light over her face.
She was not typing, though. It appeared to be that she hadn’t typed in such a long time. Like she had wracked her brain, but she just could not find the right words.
From the blank screen, I stared at her reflection. Her cheeks were damp with tears. Crazy how she didn’t make a sound.
She was so caught up in what she was thinking that she didn’t even notice me.
I circled around her until I stood right in front of her. Then, I snapped the laptop shut. That was when she finally visibly shook and looked into my eyes.
“Why?” She demanded.
“Because you’re down and I can’t let you work when you’re like this.”
Lines of confusion etched across her forehead as she stared at me “When did all of this begin?”
“I’m dating you and when you’re not okay, it is my problem.”
My response made her jump up from the chair, quickly, before she took a couple of steps back as though she was scared of me.
“Sloane,” I called out, but she ignored me and kept walking away. It wasn’t until I quickened my steps and got right in front of her that she stopped.
“Firstly, you tell me I’m getting on your nerves. Now, it’s that my problem is your problem. I’m pretty sure it’s the first one, but I think you have an articulation problem, Malik.” She spat and a giggle erupted from my mouth.
She was trying to hurt me with her words.
“What’s so funny? I literally just called you dumb.”
Placing my index finger flat against my lips, I signaled her to shut up.
“I know the game you’re playing. I don’t know what you geniuses call it, but I think I’m a bit familiar with it. You’re trying to push me away so that we can go back to giving each other the silent treatment in this house.”
“I….” Her words dried up in her throat. I watched her swallow the lump that formed in there, and that was when I knew I was right.
Sloane didn’t hate me. Was she frustrated? Maybe.
“What were you doing out so late?” She changed the subject immediately.
“So you care about me all of a sudden, huh?” I proceeded to lean against the wall, pulling her closer so that I was all up in her space.
“Fuck you.” I heard her whisper underneath her breath and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Say it again.” I commanded, biting my lower lip because I wanted to see that attitude prevail tonight. I did not want her to surrender so easily.
“No, I’m not saying shit again. You heard me the first time.” She shook her head, turning to leave but my grip on her wrist tightened as I pulled her close to me. Her small body collided against my big one as she heaved a sigh. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, I adjusted her glasses so it sat on her face properly.
Sloane in her element.
“You scared of me, doctor?”
“No, Malik. Fuck you and everything that concerns you!”
Challenge accepted! I hope she can keep the momentum when the temperature rises.
“It’s still fuck me now, yeah?” I quizzed.
It was as though something registered in her head all of a sudden. She looked down at my knee.
“You’re walking on your own now?”
“Your attitude clouded everything you couldn’t even notice, but keep it up. Keep running that mouth of yours until I tame you.”
“Tame me? You’re not the boss of me.”
With her wrist still in my hand, I pushed off the wall and made my way further into the bar.
“Where are you taking me?”
“You just fucking keep talking.” I shook my head.
I stopped right in front of the marble bar counter, gently gripping her jaw and tipping her head up so she had nowhere left to look but into my eyes. The tears were already drying up.
“Stop fighting me, Doctor. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. The earlier we can learn to live together without all of this madness, the better for us.”
By now, I could hear how fast her heart was beating. It was as though I made her nervous.
Her eyes studied my face. She licked her lips and then bit the lower one as she examined me.
She wrapped her arms around my midsection, giving me scratches on my back. I took that as my cue.
I lifted her up and placed her on the cold marble counter. Sloane’s fingers went through my hair before the same fingers found their way to the hem of my jersey and she pulled me close.
Then, her lips crashed against mine.
