Chapter 19
His deep blue eyes bored into my emerald ones. His mind seeming to search for a reply or even an act of reaction. Instead he stood there in a daze and he had me in a trance.
Somehow this undeniable bond between us was created in a way neither of us could have out ran. It was like it was meant to happen. That everything in our lives had lead up to what is going on now. I want to think that this is all in my head and that Ronan had somehow magically casted a spell on me to make me feel the way I do but I know it can't be true because he seem to be having the same effect.
"I can't stay" he finally speaks up his voice barely above a whisper. I look down as a strange unwanted feeling crashes through my chest. "We will leave in the evening, you shall pack your things in the mean time."
I listen as he tells me and stand up next to him, his 6'4" frame towering over my 5'5". He looks down at me in concern as if I was about to fall apart right then and there. He gently places his hand on my lower back. Sparks ignite as his fingers feel like their burning through my shirt. He gives me a gently push as he guides the way back to the palace. I look all around me at the garden and the sky and trying not to make eye contact with Ronan.
Soon enough we make in back and he's leading me up the stairs to my room. Just as we get to my door he lifts his arm from his side to open the door all while keeping contact with my back. He guides me in and he follows behind me and gently closes the door until a soft click is heard. He turns to me his eyes soft as they gaze over mine.
"You don't understand how hard this is for me" he speaks up.
"What do you mean?" I question curiously while taking a step forward, closer to him. He lifts his one hand up to run through his hair and slightly tugging at the ends of them. Oh how I wish those were my hands.
"You know exactly what I mean!" his voice serious and not breaking eye contact with me. I stand up straighter in frustration. Does he think that I don't feel the same?
"You don't think this isn't hard for me?!" I yell back at him.
"You don't understand. I'm a prince! The next heir to be King! A Pureblood Vampire! Your human! Someone of whom I shouldn't even have feeling towards! I should want to hurt you and kill you!" He screams as books and decorations fall of the walls and tables. I stand there petrified not knowing what to do. My heart racing a mile a second. He looks back at me his eyes glossed over showing every emotion he's every felt. Anger. Betrayal. Disgust. Yet there's fear. Sadness. And love.
"Yet I never wanted to do anything like that to you" he slowly takes my hand in his and his other hand tracing my chin as he gently pushes my head up to meet his.
"I would never hurt you or let anyone hurt you" he leans his head down to leave a chaste kiss on my forehead. He brings me into his arm in a comforting embrace. I could stay like this forever.
I look past Ronan towards the door and see it slowly opening. Oh no someone's gonna see this then we'll both be dead. Just as I'm about to let go the door opens to reveal Vivian. I quickly push myself back far away from Ronan. His faces falls but soon diminishes to a hard emotionless face once he senses we weren't the only ones in the room.
"Hello Vivian" he says without even turning around to see her.
"Ronan honey when are we leaving?" She questions him grabbing onto his arm. He slightly tenses at her touch and not in a good way. I try to hold in my laughter as the visible disgust is just radiating off him towards her.
"In a couple hours, so go pack your belongings" he motions for her to let go of him.
"But I've already packed everything" she whines her voice sounding like nails on a chalk board to me.
"Then go fetch Bryce and Amelia and tell them that we shall be leaving soon"he rips her hand off him, she pouts at him. Ugh ew.
"Fine." I watch as she stomps her way to the door and slams it behind her. I flinch at sudden loud noise and stare at the door in annoyance.
"Why are you still with her?" He turns my head towards Ronan disgust and confusion laced in my voice.
"I have no choice" he mumbles while looking towards the floor.
"What do you mean? Everyone has a choice."
"Not when you're royalty" he spits out as if the word 'royalty' was piousness. I sat there dumbfounded and with a blank mind. What does being a prince and next king have to do with any-ohh.
"It was arranged?" I say but more as a statement. He slowly nods his head as he releases a loud sigh. "So you guys aren't really together?"
"No, technically we are but it's only for ruling and money purposes, not out of love" he states monotone while looking at me as his face breaks while saying the last part of his sentence. He stares intently at me as if he was in thought. His eyes mixing back and firth from dark to light like waves of an ocean. "I wish things were how they we're like when my great grandfather was in rule he made peace and his wife was-" he suddenly stops his eyes open ajar. He quickly grabs me by the arm and pulls me into him. "Hold your breath Piccolo uccello" he whispers in my ear, his voice sends shivers down my body.
In a flash we were in another room. He lightly lets go of my arms and I step out of his hold circling around me to discover books surrounding me. A library. What are we doing here? I look out of the corner of my eye and see Ronan climbing up a ladder while looking through all of the shelves filled with books. His eyes deeply concentrated on reading each title very carefully and his fingers softly tracing each book bind. I stand there lazily leaning against the cases but soon jump away when Ronan pushes the ladder towards me almost running me over, but he doesn't pay attention, his focus set on the rows upon rows of books. I let out a puff of air and see and small love seat in the middle of the room and decide to lay down. I silently walk towards the seat and let my body fall onto the cushions. My body instantly relaxes at the softness and tired eyes slowly close.
In what felt like seconds a loud crash wakes me. I flinch at the sudden noise and see Ronan slide down the ladder as if it was a pole. He hurriedly rushes towards me his form in right in front of me after only a couple strides. Damn his long legs.
"Here" he holds the book up to my face. Buio e Luce. What the hell does that mean. I raise an eyebrow at him in confusion. What does this book have to do with anything?
"In tempo di guerra tra le razze un uomo di potere cadrà in amore con una ragazza destinata alla schiavitù per porre fine al caos e creare la pace eterna" he speaks fluently. Okay now I'm even more confused. He looks at me like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"You do remember that I only know English right?" He only shakes his head at me and comes closer towards me. I look at him in wander wanting to know what was going on, what he knows that I don't.
"When you first came to my home, Amelia she showed you around the house correct?" He asked grabbing onto both of my arms looking deep into my eyes.
"Yeah, but what does that have to do with anything?"
"Everything." I give him a confused, he only pulled my body into his hard body and told me to hold my breath once again.
In a flash we were standing in front of a beautifully sculpted door and it's frame. Dark oak with wondrous carvings had me captivated. Ronan softly knocked the door a couple times. No answer. He knocked once again. Still no answer. He looked at the door puzzled. He brought his ear against the door as if listening to any noise inside. He looked even more confused. He reached his hand towards the doorknob and slowly turned it until he was able to push the door open.
The room was completely dark the only light emitting was from the small space between the opening of the door from the hallway. Ronan quickly covers his nose as his face contorts into disgust. I raise my eyebrows at him.
"What's wrong?" I open the door wider and step in front of him walking in which I probably shouldn't since I don't know whose room this is and I'm just a human slave and would probably be killed if it's someone with a mean temper. Oh well. Suddenly I'm hit with the worst smell I could ever imagine instantly I start gagging and coughing from the horrific stench. "Oh god, what is that? It smells awful" I turn towards him mumbling from under my hand that was covering my face.
"Death." I froze in my spot my eyes widen. Oh no. I turn back around as Ronan steps into the room. I walk further into the room the smell only getting stronger as it sneaks between my fingers to my nose. I lift my shirt to cover my face with to make it better to breath without having the feeling of needing to vomit. Ronan pushes the door more open and the light from the hallway comes in showing me the source of the smell.
I scream in horror in front of me. Blood. Blood was everywhere. It covered the walls, the ceiling, the floors, and most importantly the grand bed in the middle of the room in which I was standing directly in front of. Thick blood stained the once noticeably white and gold sheets. The comforter torn and ripped apart leaving crimson colored feathers scattered along the bed and on the floor around it.
Soft footsteps are heard behind me but I'm to focused on the scene before me still not believing it. Out of the corner of my eye I see Ronan slowly approach one side of the bed. I look at him my chest falls at the sight of him. His face as fell in sadness as his eyes gloss over with unshed tears.
"Mamma?" Ronan chokes. I remain glued to my spot not being able to moved, my body still in shock. He looks down at the Queen as he shakily strokes her lifeless cheek.
"Papa?" He cries. He looked like a lost child and it broke my heart. He brings the lifeless bodies into his chest as his heavy cries echo the room. Loud footsteps rush from the hall and the come to a sudden stop as they reach the room.
"Oh no no no" a voice says starting to cry, the sound of a body hitting the floor echoes in my ear drums. I recognize the voice as Lia's. Not too long after another pair of footsteps enters the room.
"Oh my god" a voice whispers. It was Bryce. His voice adds onto the sad sounds of pain that echo off the walls of the room. I stand there in the center not knowing what to do.
Who would do this? Why would someone want to kill the King and Queen? Who's the one that is to be blamed for murdering Ronan's parents?
