Chapter 38: Act On Their Own
Now she knew why Damian invited her over, to come to see that the Baroness wasn’t just a mere human, she is gifted.

“You did not tell me she is gifted”

“You never asked”

“Was I supposed to? You should have just said so”

“What’s the need, you people will still want a werewolf for me as a wife”

Damian was impressed with her training so far, she is a fast learner. But that doesn’t mean he will ignore the fact that she has a long way to go with her training. Well there is still a lot of time

“You are right about that, she having all this abilities won’t change the fact that she is not suitable to bear the next heir”

“So it’s no longer about her not being a befitting wife and Baroness, it’s now about her not being suitable to produce me with any heir?” Damian found it very funny.

Maria sighed and looked at Althea in the field “I know you will never let her go. Even though she is unwilling to stay, you refused to let her go. At this point she is not to blame for anything because she is here against her wish, so there is no way you will listen to us on that. But about producing the next Baron, it won’t come from her. The elders of the family asked me to tell you that the next Baron won’t come from her but from who they decide for you to marry. 

Damian frowned, if it was someone else who said this he would have cut off their heads without thinking twice. His aunt was getting on his nerves, for him not to do what he will regret. He tried to calm his nerves and looked at her “She will bear my heir and I will never mate with another woman. The earlier the elders of the family understand this, the better. You have overstayed your welcome, leave” Damon ordered rashly.

Whenever he spoke with such a tone, it was best for one to leave quietly and say nothing else. Maria stood up, dusted her garment and left. She already said what she came to say. The family had decided not to say anything more about it to him. From today onwards they will act on their own.

Damian has a long life ahead of him, he will leave long. So they need not be in a hurry to make him have another wife, the time to do so is not now, they will allow a few years to pass first.

Meanwhile, Alicia arrived in time when Maria came out of the mansion.

She frowned when she saw Maria but plastered a fake smile on her face “Aunt Maria, it’s nice to see you here” Alicia rushed to her, acting excited to see her.

Maria, who's in a bad mood, got worse when she saw Alicia. But she did not show it. For some reason she did not like this young lady, she feels she is not being sincere.

“It’s Lady Maria to you, Young lady Alicia from the house of lion” 

Alicia felt angry inwardly but in her face was a fake smile. Maria had spoken to her very formally which means she doesn’t want any form of closeness between them.

She thought giving her an expensive gift will make them close but it seems Lady Maria dislikes her now.

“Apologies, Lady Maria” Alicia bowed her head in apology.

“I’m sure you are here to see the Baroness, she is training, Young can show you where she is” Maria said and walked away. She got into her white exotic carriage and her chauffeur rod off.

Alicia stood there watching as the carriage rode away with a deep frown on her face. She calmed her nerves, turned around with a fake smile and walked inside the mansion.

Young showed her where the Baroness was and when she got there with Nora and two of her guards following behind she smiled happily when she saw the Baron seated in the balcony leading to the field. But her genuine smile did not last long as she became sad that he was here to watch Althea train, she could see small smiles on his face as he watched her.

She could not remember when last she saw the Baron smile. Damian used to smile while they were growing up, but after what happened ten years ago, she never saw him smile again but now all of a sudden she is making him smile.

She wishes she is the one in Althea’s position right now, she wishes she was the one making him smile and not her. Alicia clenched her fist and then comported herself when Damian, who had long sensed her presence but acted like he did not notice, turned and looked at her with a frown on his face.

Alicia immediately smiled and walked close. 

She bowed her head “Apologies Baron for my rudeness, I was just busy watching the Baroness forgetting I am supposed to come greet you”

“You are here to see her after 3 weeks of not doing so?”

“I’m sorry Baron but I heard she was training, and I thought to not disturb her. But since it has been long I decided to finally come and support her”

Damian did not say anything and instead stood up “Good then” he said and walked out of there.

Alicia who has been holding her breath in fear finally sighed in relief. She looked towards Althea hatefully while she trained happily using her powers. 

The reason she had actually come was because she finally got to know why Damian had decided to marry a mere human. She got to hear from the spy she has here that Althea had gifted abilities. 

Seeing how pissed her mistress is, Nora immediately said “No matter how many powers she has, she still cannot compare to you my lady. Can’t you see from her training that she is still not as skilled and hasn't mastered her powers well?”

“True, but when she finally does she will be a big competition”

“Never, she can’t compare, not when she is still human without a beast” Nora said.

Alicia smiled, another reason she came is because she has other plans of convincing Althea who is so determined to escape that she could assist her in escaping.

Althea was done with her training and when she looked towards the wide balcony she could not see Damian or his aunt but instead could only see Alicia who was not there before. 

She wondered why they had left, was she that bad? Althea wondered to herself. But then decided not to bother, she had started this training for herself and not to please anyone in the first place. 

She said goodbye to Anton and her maid assisted her with water and carrying of her sword. 

Alicia stood up when she saw Althea was done and walked to her with a fake smile on her face. 

“You did great Baroness but you sure still have a lot to improve on”

“I know that” Althea said to her “Why are you here?” 

“To see you and speak to you since it’s been a while.

“That’s thoughtful of you”

“There is something I really need us to talk about, something you have been willing to hear and want so much” Alicia said. 

“And what will that be?” Althea asked curiously.
