Chapter 39 — Aura of Peace
Dheer's POV:
I returned home late. Mitra opened the door but didn't look at me. She might be angry at me. I took my dress and came back, taking a shower.
"Did you have your dinner?" Mitra asked, looking at the floor.
"I will come to dining hall," I said, and she went off.
She served dinner to me.
"Mitra, did you have your dinner?"
"I had it with mom and dad," she replied.
We went to the room, and she laid on the bed, turning another side not to face me.
"Mitra, are you angry with me?"
"No, Dheer. I am not angry with you. I think unless I prove truth to you, you may not believe me," she said.
"No, Mitra, it's not that. I trust you. But situations are confusing me. You no need to prove anything, Mitra. I will find out the real culprit. Dharma said that Jay tried saving you. I didn't understand."
"Did Dharma say that Jay saved me? But he tried to molest me twice," she said shockingly.
"Didn't Dharma say this to you anytime?"
"No, he didn't."
"Ok, let me find out, Mitra. You sleep now. Don't strain yourself too much."
"Dheer, why does this happen to me every time? Whenever I am happy, something from my past destroys everything."
"Please stop crying. I am so stressed these days because of all these tensions. But really I didn't mean to hurt you. I am sorry for hurting you, baby."
"It's ok. I love you and I never lie to you. Just remember this," Mitra said.
"I love you," I said, taking her into my arms.
I felt happy as Mitra didn't make it as an issue. We already have enough tensions in the profession and outside the home. I want peace, at least in my house. Mitra being a mature person, she always creates an aura of peace with her love and smile.
Next day, I am about to leave to office and Dharma came with Asha again.
"Your friends came," I said to Mitra.
"Who?" She asked combing her beautiful curly hairs.
I lost in her thoughts, and she patted on my shoulder.
"Who is it?"
"Dharma and Asha."
"God, I will send them soon. Please don't shout at them or at me now," she said as if she was scared of me.
"It's ok. I have no objection if they come to our home. Because you have right to invite your friends. This is your home, you can call your friends to visit you," I said.
"Dheer, actually Dharma asked me to take Asha for wedding shopping. I know you don't like me going with her to shopping but..."
"No, Mitra, I have no objection."
Not now. Because Asha is Kali's sister.
"Really? Thank you, Dheer. I thought you would be angry with me again."
Mitra's POV:
"No, Mitra, I won't be angry with you because I am not against Asha. Only Dharma is my enemy as he is a criminal," Dharma said.
Though I can't entirely agree with Dheer, I didn't argue with him. Dheer left to office and Dharma too left leaving Asha at my home. As mom and dad went for marriage, we both were alone now at home. I decided to know about Asha. Dharma didn't say anything about Asha to me. I gave tea to her and settled beside her on the sofa.
"Mitra, if you don't mind, shall I ask you something?"
"Of course, Asha, tell me."
"Are you the same Mitra who called Dharma and accused him that he is not a human?"
"Yes, it's me," I replied in a low voice regretting my words about Dharma as I thought he changed at that time.
"Dharma is not that bad as you think, Mitra. He is my saviour. He didn't abduct me. Dharma told that you are trying to trace my whereabouts at that time. But please don't do that.
Few people abducted me, and Dharma saved me. I am living with Dharma not because he forced me to stay. In fact, he never forced me to stay with him. I am staying with him because I have no one to go. Dharma told me that I could stay with him if I didn't have any objection," Asha said.
"Asha, I know about Dharma to some extent. At that time, I misunderstood him. So I talked like that but now I understood what he is."
"Whatever, Mitra, I want to say you one thing. Dharma never forced me. In fact he didn't touch me at all," she said.
"Asha, I didn't mean..."
"Let me speak, Mitra," Asha said, and I stopped to listen to her words.
"The fact is that he no need to force me. If he asks me once, I am ready to give myself to him wholeheartedly. I love him.
I love him, but he doesn't. He treats me as a friend. I know that the public thinks that I am his mistress. But we never had such a relationship between us. Our relationship is something pure which can't be described in words. Only the heart can understand that. He cares for me and understands me. But he didn't love me" Asha said sadly.
"Then why did he agree to marry you?"
"He didn't want me to get blamed as a prostitute just for staying with him. Mitra, tell me one thing. You and Dharma too lived in the same room in the past. Don't you know that staying in the same house doesn't mean having an affair? Society knew only to blame, but people like you are different from this society. At least people like you should understand the facts.
Media have to bring out the hidden truths but only those hidden truths which are beneficial to the public, not about love and extramarital affairs. It doesn't help the people in any way," Asha said to me.
She is right. Why did I concentrate more on Dharma and Asha affair? I shouldn't have done that.
"What did you study, Asha?"
"A lot about humans and society," Asha said.
Perfect to Dharma. Because he too talks in the same way which no one understands.
We went to shopping and completed wedding shopping. Dharma came to my home to take Asha to home. He is waiting for her in the car.
"I hope soon Dharma will love you."
"I don't mind, Mitra. Because I can understand his intentions even if he didn't say. If I lived at least one day as his wife, it was enough for me. I can't expect him to love me because it may divert his focus from the goal he had. However I feel lucky to become his wife," Asha said and went off with Dharma.
Dheer didn't return home, and it's already midnight. I called him, but it's switched off. I switched on the TV to watch something to stay awake till he returns. I am changing channels and stopped seeing flash news.
"DCP Dheer was shot by terrorists. He is in ICU and is in critical stage."
