CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY THREE
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY THREE
AMELIA’S POV
I took my time pacing around the room. I wasn’t comfortable in the pack, but something told me that I wasn’t going to be leaving ever again. I ignored that voice in my head. It couldn’t be. Things were still very much hard for Vivian and I. we couldn’t stay at a pack like this. Not with a leader like Alpha Logan. I heard Miles turn in his tiny bed, and I carried him up immediately. He was my new favorite thing in the world. After all, he had the same mark that I did. We had to be connected in ways that were more than one. He slept off again, and I dropped him back.
It took a whole lot of holding back not to take him back to his father. It felt like Derek needed to see him. But I was definitely going to respect Vivian’s wishes more than anything. She was the one that could decide on her child’s life. And I felt like she was making the right choice as well. The palace was too toxic for her to be carrying Miles around.
But there were still questions that were lingering in my head. Why did Alpha Logan still keep her locked up behind these doors? Why was he trying to make sure that her movements were traced? Why was he trying to make sure that he knew where she was?
Once again, I had lied to everyone at the pack that I had gone to the gym for the second time in the day. They were easy to trick. Of course, they thought that was how people that came from the city usually behaved.
It was only a few minutes when I heard a knock at the window. I opened it, and Vivian jumped right in again, with a smile on her face.
“What did you find out?” I asked immediately, not even giving her a chance to breathe.
“Still the same thing,” she said, sighing. “Just that he gave a more detailed version this time.”
I couldn’t stop my eyebrows from perking up. “What detailed version?” I asked.
Vivian shrugged. “Oh just more information on how my mother dearest was also involved in separating us.”
I frowned. “Did she have any issues with my own mother?” I asked. That had to be the only reasonable explanation for the whole thing right?
“Well, that’s something we have to find ourselves,” Vivian said, smiling again just the way she came in. There was definitely something cooking up in that head of hers.
“What are you thinking?” I asked, and she smiled even wider.
“We need to get all the information we need for starters,” she said, and my eyes widened.
“Where do you expect us to get all that information?”
“Well, I did a bit of research myself. It turns out that there has been an event book kept by all the Alphas. My father had one. It’s a kind of book where the Alpha of a pack records everything that has been happening in a particular pack or all their deeds during their reign in a particular book. The book is to be opened by no one expect the Alpha.”
“And you somehow want to open this book,” I asked, cocking an eyebrow.
Vivian shrugged. “Obviously. Well, we first need to make sure there is no curse over it. And then, we need to meet with Alpha Kyle after that.”
I racked my brain, trying to remember who the hell Alpha Kyle was. Then I remembered him. He was one of Alpha Logan’s closest friends. I had served him on countless occasions, and he always managed to come back for more.
“Are you mad?” I asked Vivian. “Why do you want to blow our cover?”
“Sometimes, all some of these Alphas do is keep their enemies closer. They smile, party, and call themselves best friends, but would do anything to get rid of each other.”
I frowned, trying to figure out everything that she was saying, was she trying to say that Alpha Kyle actually hated Alpha Logan? But they had been friends for years. It was just so hard to believe.
I finally looked up at her. She’s the business woman. She’s the one who actually knows how all these people behave.
“When do we leave?” I asked, and she smiled.
“By dusk.”
ALPHA LOGAN’S POV
I had barely finished having dinner when Amelia walked over to me, looking more annoyed as ever.
“What happened?” I asked, and she looked behind her, where Vivian came with Miles in her arms.
“She asked the maids to tell me that she wants to go for a walk with Miles. He was having trouble sleeping, and a sleep would be best for him.”
I looked at Vivian, and she looked away like she would rather be having that walk at the moment instead of standing to talk to me.
“Is that true?” I asked, and she managed to nod.
“It’s not like I’m dying to go on a walk with her. I just don’t trust your pets to have a walk with me. Plus, she’s the only one who has the nerve and knowledge to walk around the pack. Nothing much.”
She wasn’t wrong about any of the points that she had stated. “How long will you be?” I asked. I had my reasons for being slightly nice to either of them. All I wanted was the jewel in Vivian’s arm. I definitely wasn’t going to just let my heir roam around outside when he has me. When he has a whole pack to want to take over. I looked up at Vivian, and she covered the child’s face like she saw the kind of look that I was giving her.
“An hour should be enough,” she said, and Amelia gasped.
“Alpha, are you really sending me with her? I have better things to do.”
“Calm down, Amelia. You will be rewarded.” That seemed to calm her down. “A few guards will be coming with you.”
I waited for either of them to protest, but Vivian just shrugged. “I need to carry my bag upstairs.”
Within seconds, she was heading upstairs. She returned, wearing a dark red dress with a bag in hand. She nodded in mine and Amelia’s direction. Amelia looked at me one more time, before following her out of the door. I ordered the guards to follow them immediately. I wasn’t going to be taking risks with the both of them. Especially when they were as smart as they were. I wasn’t going to be taking such risks. Not with them.
“You let them go together?” Mark asked, as he walked into the throne room.
“Yes,” I said, and he looked at me like I had grown two heads.
“Father, aren’t you afraid that they might be up to something?” he asked, and I shook my head.
“They didn’t exactly hate each other anymore. But they weren’t willing to be friends either. And until they become friends, none of them would be able to speak to the other in a proper manner. And until then, the truth is safe.”
He frowned. “What truth?”
I reached up, ruffling his hair. “You will find out soon enough. Until then, it’s safe to keep the both of them close.”
He nodded, and I was thankful for once that he just understood at once. “So do you have any plans of handing Derek’s pack over to me?” he asked, and I froze.
Mark might have been my favorite son, but he was also the foolish one. I couldn’t trust him enough to rule a pack. He would lead them to destruction. And I really didn’t want to have to meet Kyle to destroy the pack the second time. It wasn’t worth it like that.
There wasn’t a Derek to fight back or try to build his pack back up. It definitely wasn’t it.
I couldn’t even deny the fact that I missed all of Derek’s behavior. I couldn’t bring myself to look at him while he laid in that bed, looking more miserable than ever.
“Has Anna cleaned Derek up today?” I asked Mark, and he shot me a look. I knew he didn’t mate Anna out of love. So why was he acting like he suddenly cared about her emotions and all?
“What is it?” I asked, and he looked away. “She isn’t officially mated to you. So she’s back to being a pack maid. Tell her to take care of Derek.”
He scoffed. “To think that you wanted to send her out of the pack. Were you going to be able to send Vivian to wipe her husband’s dirt away?”
I looked away immediately. “And you want to take over a pack?” I asked, making him freeze. “This is the reason why Derek will always be better than you. And don’t think you will ever replace him. Got that?” he didn’t answer as he stormed out of the room.
