Chapter 76: The Boss’s Wife
Amy woke up early, intending to cook breakfast for Zack. It was their first morning as a married couple in their new home, together with the children.
Amy and Zack had moved into a new house, which Amy had no idea had been planned long ago. Zack had prepared it since the time she was pregnant with the twins. They were also joined by Nathan, the child Zack supposedly had with Vanessa.
What puzzled Amy was why Nathan was the same age as her twins. It constantly troubled her, especially after the DNA test confirmed that Nathan was indeed Zack's son.
"Good morning, Wife," Zack greeted her, wrapping his arms around her waist. Amy turned to face him and gave him a kiss. "How did you sleep?" she asked sweetly, her voice soft.
Zack rested his head on her shoulder, his breath brushing against her neck. He planted gentle kisses on her skin. "It was good, especially with you beside me," he replied lovingly.
Amy chuckled. "You're trying to make me swoon again," she teased.
"Hehehe..." giggled one of the kids. When they turned around, Amy saw the twins watching them with amused expressions. Nathan, on the other hand, sat quietly nearby.
"Nathan, come and eat with us," Amy said gently, walking toward the boy.
"Yes, ma'am," Nathan replied politely. Amy exchanged a glance with Zack, smiling at her husband. "Just call me Aunt Amy, okay?" she said, smiling warmly at Nathan. The boy nodded before taking his seat at the table.
"Hon, I have a meeting later. Are you coming with me?" Zack asked. Amy nodded—after all, she was still his secretary. "Yeah, I'll ask Dad to come over and stay with the kids," she said.
After breakfast, they waited for Amy's father to arrive. While waiting, Amy decided to bond with Nathan. She understood that the child was not at fault for what happened in the past. To her, all of it was history, and she was determined to focus on their present and future.
"Nathan," Amy called out as she approached the boy. He was sitting quietly on the couch, playing with a small toy. He looked up when he heard her voice, giving her a shy smile.
"Yes, Aunt Amy?" Nathan replied politely.
Amy sat beside him and smiled gently. "How are you? Are you getting used to the new house?" she asked, trying to break the ice.
Nathan nodded and smiled faintly. "Yes, ma'am. It's nice here," he said softly, looking down at his toy again.
Amy smiled warmly and gently patted his head. "You know, Nathan, in this house, we’re family. I want you to feel comfortable here, okay? If you need anything, just let me know."
Nathan hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Thank you, Aunt Amy," he said, and his simple response was enough to ease Amy's worries.
Zack placed a hand on Amy’s shoulder, and when she looked up, he smiled at her. "You're amazing," he said before turning to Nathan. "Nathan, remember, Aunt Amy will take care of you just like she takes care of Josh and Aliah."
Nathan nodded again, and for the first time, Amy saw a genuine smile on the boy’s face. To Amy, it marked the beginning of a new chapter as a complete family—despite the remnants of the past, she was determined to create a brighter future.
When they arrived at the office, employees greeted Zack and Amy warmly. Amy smiled back, while Zack gave a serious nod in acknowledgment. Amy was used to scenes like this—walking alongside her husband, who always looked dashing in his suit, commanding respect from everyone around him.
In Zack's office, he took off his coat and handed it to Amy. "Please hang this for me, hon," he said affectionately before sitting in his swivel chair and opening his laptop.
"Sure," Amy replied, taking the coat to the hanger by the door. Then she returned to Zack’s desk. "What’s your schedule for today?"
Zack swiveled his chair to face her. "I have three meetings. One in the boardroom, and two virtual. I need updated reports from accounting and marketing. Also, call Mr. Tan about the Cebu project status," he explained, his expression serious.
Amy nodded, quickly jotting down the tasks in her notebook. "Got it. Anything else?"
Zack stood up, walked over to her, and pulled her close. "Yeah. Don’t forget to have lunch with me," he whispered, kissing her on the forehead.
Amy smiled, but before she could respond, the door opened. Caleb, Zack’s right-hand man, peeked in. "Sir, the boardroom is ready for the meeting," he announced.
"Good. Let’s go," Zack said, taking Amy’s hand. "You’re coming too," he added.
Amy was taken aback. "To the meeting? Why?" she asked, slightly hesitant.
"You’re my secretary, and also my wife. You should be there," Zack replied with a smile before leading her out of the office.
In the boardroom, Zack sat at the head of the table while Amy sat beside him. The meeting began, and Amy quietly listened as each department head presented their reports. Zack occasionally glanced at her, as if checking if she was okay.
Midway through the meeting, Amy noticed a female employee casting lingering glances at Zack. Her raised eyebrow and intentional demeanor were hard to miss. Amy chose to stay silent, trusting Zack, but she couldn’t help the small question that lingered in her mind—what was the truth about Zack and Vanessa?
After the meeting, Amy couldn’t hold back anymore. "Hon," she said as they walked back to Zack’s office. "I have a question."
Zack looked at her, sensing the seriousness in her voice. "What is it?"
Amy took a deep breath before speaking. "Josh, Aliah, and Nathan are all the same age. Are you sure there’s nothing else you’re hiding from me about Vanessa?" she asked, her voice tinged with apprehension.
Zack stopped walking and turned to face her. "Amy," he said, holding her hands. "I’ve told you everything. If you want, we can talk about it again later. But please remember—you're the one I love. Trust me."
Amy nodded, but the question lingered in her mind. Despite her love for Zack, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there might be more to their past than she knew.
