Dante, my hero

Dante, my hero
Chapter 16~ Valerie's POV

\===========

After several hours in the office, I got done for the day, as I packed the files into my desk and headed out with my bag carried in my hand.

Standing outside the company, I bid goodbye to my colleagues as I waited for a taxi to stop for me. Seconds turned into minutes and minutes into hours as no taxi stopped to carry me.

I thought to myself, "Would I have to sleep outside tonight?"

But as my deep thoughts were still on, suddenly I heard a screech from a car, the noise brought me back to the present as a loud voice followed it.

"Miss, are you going?" The man asked, bringing his head outside his car's window.

Swiftly, I responded, "Yes, I am," running to where his car was parked.

Reaching there, I said before I entered, "Are you a taxi driver, or an Uber driver?"

Due to my silly question, the man gave stares in disgust as he responded, "Do I look like a philanthropist that would carry you for free? Are you entering the car or what?"

As I noticed the growth in his annoyance, I gently opened the back door of the car and entered.

Immediately, the driver switched on his car engine and drove off.

A few seconds into his drive, the driver voiced, "Miss, you didn't tell me where you are headed."

"Oh, I apologize," I said. "I will drop at Pike Street, sir," continuing my response to him.

"Okay, miss, that will be twenty bucks," the driver uttered to me.

Responding, I gave a slight smile, as I knew it was less than that, but I chose not to engage in an argument with him, as I only wanted to go home and rest so I could see my mother at the hospital the following day.

Still on the road, we got to the point where every car needed to stop, for the red arrow on the traffic light to turn green before anyone could proceed.

After waiting for a minute longer than usual, we were allowed to go.

Upon the driver almost reaching my destination, suddenly his car stopped, and this got on my infuriating side.

"What is happening to your car?" I said, wearing a frown on my face.

The driver responded as he made his way out of the car, "I will see the problem now."

Hearing this from him, I decided to give him some time so he could fix it, but minutes were turning into hours as he was still trying to find a fix to the problem.

Then, I got out of the car and went to where he stood fixing the problem.

And I challenged him, "Is this a trick, not to take me to my final destination?"

"Miss, what's that supposed to mean?" I retorted.

"Yes, that's how y'all do, I knew my journey was going to be problematic the moment I boarded your taxi, but having no options left was my only reason for taking the risk," I said.

"And for this, you will receive zero dollars from me," I finally uttered.

"Miss, you must be joking. I took you halfway through your journey, and you think you won't pay me for driving you this far, then, I guess doing it the hard way would solve this problem," the man threatened, as he went close to the driver's seat and brought out a gun.

Pointing it at me, he said, "Now you see I ain't playing with you bitch,"

Seeing the gun, my heart left my chest as I was consumed by fear, and my stubbornness towards not giving him the money shifted.

"Ta-Ta-Take the money, okay?" I stuttered while giving him the money.

"Yeah, that's right, now you would learn not to mess with a black nigga," I stated.

And so, not minding what he said, I tried taking my bag from the car to leave, but suddenly I felt a push on my back, which led my chest to lie on the car's back seat.

Then a hand covered my mouth as I heard a whisper in my ear, "You would make a fine hole to release every one of my semen," and with his hand, it made it hard for me to scream.

Struggling so hard, I bit the hand and was able to turn my back on the seat so I could escape easily. I uttered in fear as I was buried in it, "You maniac,"

Unfortunately, it didn't turn out as easily as I had planned it in my head, with so much manly grip on me, it continuously made it difficult for me to even breathe.

So, he began losing the belt on his trousers and taking off my pants as I wore a short, flowery dress, preparing to rape me.

And suddenly, I heard a loud smack on the driver's back, which caused him to halt as he turned his back.

Instantly, he was pulled off me by the person as I began breathing heavily, coming out in haste. I discovered it was none other than Dante. I was filled with a mix of emotions as I was grateful he came to save me, and I was also confused about how he knew I was in danger.

But all that didn't matter, as I pictured him as my knight and shining armor at that moment.

Graping the driver firmly in his hands as he carried him up with so much rage in him, with his muscles visibly shown, then he shouted, "How dare you try to rape her, do you think she is your type of girl?"

Hearing this, I felt kind of special despite my unsettled breath.

And so, he resorted to punching the driver in the face countless times till he bled out.

Seeing blood pouring out of the driver's face, I couldn't endure it anymore, though he deserved to be killed.

Then I hurriedly held Dante's hand as he tried to punch the driver one more time.

Then I said, looking at him in the eyes for the very first time, "Dante, please, stop."

Touching him as he heard my utterance, he halted as he threw the driver on the bonnet of his car Dante gave a warning to him, "If I ever catch you or see you trying to take advantage of girls, that day will be your very last on earth," he said.

And so, Dante removed his hand from the driver's shirt, which was soaked with blood, as he uttered to me, "Come on, I will drop you off at home."

Nodding my head, I accepted his offer to drive me home as I was so lost in his eyes, demeanor, and everything to admire.

Entering his car, I didn't mind the fact that he didn't speak to me throughout the drive, but at least I was happy he was sitting next to me, my newly found hero.

After some minutes into the drive, we arrived at my apartment. Then I tried engaging in a conversation with him.

But with all my attempts at speech, he wore a straight look and didn't show any reaction towards it.

I knew I deserved what I was getting as I had been mean to him also, but it was a fair battle game; he was being a jerk, and I needed to keep my self-respect.

Understanding it all, I got out of the car and walked slowly to my apartment, hoping he would press his car horn to call me back, but it didn't happen as I suddenly heard the start of his car, and he drove off without looking back.

Truthfully, I felt bad, but I knew he was trying to do a payback for all I did to him. Swiftly, I made it irrelevant to my thoughts as I opened my door and walked into my apartment.
