Chapter Seventy-Four - I am so nervous.

Maya

I am nervous because Conrad and I are meeting his mother for breakfast today. We were supposed to do it last week, but with everything that happened, we rearranged it. Callum has fallen silent once again. The few nights after what happened to my apartment, I wasn’t sleeping great, and the nightmares came back, but I am doing better now. Thankfully, the landlord had insurance, so Conrad didn’t need to pay anything. I didn’t get my security deposit back, which is fine. I was just glad Conrad didn’t have to use his money to pay for damages.

I am in the bedroom trying to decide on what to wear. I am worried she isn’t going to like me, especially after everything that happened to Conrad. I know she is willing to get to know me, which I appreciate, but it doesn’t mean she will like me or think I am right for her son. I don’t know if his father has gotten inside her head since he hates me. I am doing everything I can to keep calm because the last thing I need is to have a panic attack.

I hear Conrad come into the room. He soon is behind me, resting his hands on my hips and kissing gently over my shoulders, “How are you doing, sweetheart?”

I sigh, resting my body back against his, “I don’t know what to wear.”

“Wear whatever you want. What you feel comfortable in,” he says, nuzzling my neck.

“I want to look nice,” I whisper.

“And you will in anything you pick. You don’t need to be nervous. My mom will treat you well.” He says.

I turn to face him, “What if she ends up agreeing with your father and Bridget after meeting me? What if she agrees I am not good enough for you?”

He reaches in and strokes my cheek with his thumb, “She won’t. Even if she did, it wouldn’t matter. You are good enough for me. You are one of the best people I have ever met. You are my favourite person in the entire, Maya.” He smiles and kisses my forehead.

Conrad hugs me to his chest. I glance up at him and smile, “You are my favourite person too.”

I kiss his lips softly, and his curls into a smile against mine. When we part, he helps me pick an outfit. I chose a cute pink summer dress that stopped above my knees. I can’t risk her seeing my scars; it would raise too many questions. His mom doesn’t need any more reason to believe I am mentally unstable and trouble for her son.

Conrad lies on the bed and watches me as I get ready. I pull off his tee I had on to cover my body while I choose what to wear. I feel his eyes run over my half-naked body, not peeling them away until I pull the dress over my head.

“Aww.” He pouts.

“What?” I laugh.

“I was enjoying the view.” He smirks.

I shake my head, “Of course you were.”

I stroll over to the bed and crawl up towards him. I tower over him, “Perv.”

Conrad laughs loudly, and in one swift movement, he has me on my back and pinned to the mattress, “I am allowed to be since you are mine.”

“Oh, is that how it works?” I laugh.

He nods, “Yes. I am allowed to look, but no one else.”

“I don’t want anyone else looking at me but you.” I purr.

He dips his head down, kissing my neck, “Good.”

I whimper and entangle my fingers into his hair. My entire body relaxes under his lips. He dances his lips along my jawline, and eventually, they cover mine. I moan at the contact, and so does her. The kiss is quick to become heated, and as much as I would love to continue, we can’t.

“Conrad, we should stop. I don’t want to be late and wouldn’t have time to shower again.” I pant.

I do not want to meet with her smelling of sex.

He groans, “Yes, you are probably right.”

“Sorry, my love, but later. I promise.” I smile.

He pecks my lips before climbing off me and getting to his feet. He offers me his hand and helps me up, too. I smooth down my dress, ignoring the heat between my thighs and finish off getting ready.

We haven’t made love recently, both too stressed to even think about it. It doesn’t mean I haven’t missed him; I know he has missed me too.

“You should probably sort that,” I giggle, pointing to the evident excitement in his jeans.

He looks down and nods, disappearing to the bathroom to readjust. I laugh and concentrate on getting my hair and make-up done. I keep it natural and straighten my hair.

Conrad comes back through a few minutes later.

“Better?” I laugh.

“Yes, for now. But later, you are all mine. I have missed being close with you so damn much.” He says.

“Me too.” I agree.

Conrad goes to the living room to wait for me which is probably best in case we get caught up in the moment again. Once I am ready, I stand in front of the mirror. I sigh and shake my head. I wonder if I will ever like my reflection. I made sure my dress and my hair were okay before I sauntered through to join him. We will need to leave in about ten minutes.

“How do I look?” I ask, standing in front of him.

He looks up at me and instantly smiles, “Beautiful. As always, sweetheart.”

I blush and tuck my hair behind my ear. You would think I would be used to his compliments by now. I don’t know if I will ever get used to them. Conrad chuckles, standing and comes over to me.

“Please, don’t ever stop blushing around me.” He smiles.

“You like it when I blush? Why?”

“Because it is cute.” He says matter-of-factly and pecks my lips.

I playfully roll my eyes, “It is not cute. It is embarrassing.”

“No, it isn’t.” he protests and kisses my forehead.

“We should make a move before I become too nervous and change my mind,” I say honestly.

“Angel, if you aren’t ready, we don’t need to go.” He says softly.

“Yes, we do. Your mom is waiting for us, and I will need to do it eventually.”

“Okay, then let’s head out.”

He takes his hand in mine, and we exit the apartment. We need to drive there because the place we are meeting is not within walking distance. It will take nearly half an hour to drive there. It will give me time to pull myself together before I meet her. I don’t want to embarrass myself.
