Chapter Thirty-One - A uneasy feeling.

Conrad

Maya and I spend most of our weekend in bed, naked. We couldn’t keep our hands off each other after our first time together. The sex is mind-blowing, and Maya seems to find her confidence a little more every time we do, which is beautiful to watch. I am happy she trusts me enough to allow me all of her. I know it wasn’t easy, but I think it helps that she knows I would never hurt her.

“Do we need to leave? Can’t we prolong our weekend?” Maya whines as we prepare to leave.

“I wish we could, but I have an important meeting this morning. You could stay here, and I will come back once I am done.” I suggest.

“Tempting, but probably not a good idea.” she sighs.

Meredith doesn’t take well to absence. She doesn’t care if someone is hurt or sick because, in her world, her needs come before anyone else’s. I would replace her if it were up to me, but my parents would never allow it.

“We should go, angel. We can grab another coffee on the way.” I smile.

We didn’t get as much sleep as we usually would this weekend, so we are tired and need an extra boost.

“Yes, a double shot preferable.” She laughs.

I offer her my hand, which she takes happily, and I lead us out. I am dropping her off because her car decided to stop working yesterday. I have someone coming to pick it up today to take it away and see if the problem can be fixed. If not, I will look into buying a new one, but I am not sure if she would let me. I am taking my personal car, which has tinted windows, so no one will know it is me dropping her off.

“You can have whatever you want, gorgeous.” I smile.

I led us out to my car, opened the passenger’s door and helped her climb in. I swat her ass when she does.

“Naughty,” she laughs.

“I couldn’t help it. It was just there.”

“Are you saying I have a fat ass?” she asks with a raised brow.

“No, your ass is perfect, baby girl.” I wink and close the door.

I smirked and ran around to the other side to climb into the driver’s seat.

“Do you think it would be safer if you dropped me away from the office?” she asks as I get us on the road.

I rest my free hand on her thigh. “I am sure it will be fine. No one will know it is me, but I can do it if you feel more comfortable.”

“I will decide when we are closer.”

I can sense she is nervous in case we get caught. The choice is hers. I don’t want her to become anxious. I will let her make her choice, but first coffee. I pull into a drive-through because we don’t have time to sit in somewhere.

“Latte with an extra shot, angel?” I ask.

“Yes, please.”

I place our order, moving to the other window to pay and get our order.

“I am going to need a lot of coffee today,” she snickers.

“Me too, but the lack of sleep was so worth it,” I smirk.

“Oh, yes, it was.” She agrees.

She has quickly become my new addiction.

“Can I see you tonight, or have you had enough of me?” I laugh.

I wouldn’t be offended if she said she needed a night alone.

“No, I have not had enough of you, Conrad. So, yes, you can, but you can come to mine because I have some studying to do.” she smiles.

“Okay, just let me know when you finish, and I will pick you up. I will call about your car at lunch, and hopefully, they have good news.”

“I hope so. I can’t afford to buy a new car. I have some savings, which will be enough to cover the cost of repairs, but if it can’t be fixed, I am screwed.” She sighs.

“Don’t worry about it, okay? If it can’t be fixed, we can work something out. I can get you a new car, or I can put you on my insurance, and you can use one of mine until you can get a new one.” I suggest.

I have two cars. There is probably a better chance of her borrowing one than letting me buy her one.

“You are not buying me a car, Conrad.” She exclaims.

“You can borrow mine then.”

“I will think about it, but I am hoping my car is fixable.” She replies.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it couldn’t be because it is an old car, but I won’t say that to her. I hope she gets it back, but we will need to do something if not.

I change the subject, not wanting to stress her out.

“Where am I dropping you off because we will arrive any minute?”

“Outside will be fine. Just make sure no one sees you.”

I nod and we arrive at the building, and I pull into a parking space. Maya removed her seatbelt and reached over to kiss me softly.

“I will see you later, handsome.” She coos.

“Yes, see you later, beautiful. I will keep in touch about your car. Have a good day.” I smile.

“You too.”

She pecks my lips once more before she climbs out of the car, quickly closing the door before anyone can see me. I am ready to drive off, but before I can something catches my eye, or should I say someone? There is a guy dressed in all black with his hood up just down from the office building. His eyes were firmly on Maya. I don’t know who it was, but he gave me an uneasy feeling.

I don’t like the way he is staring at her. Maya seems oblivious. I stay put until I see Maya walk into the building. The guy’s eyes fall on my car, and he looks pissed. Who the hell is he? I can’t make out his face because half of it is covered with a scarf. No, I don’t like this at all.

I glance around to make sure no one from the office is around and climb out of the car. I approach him, but before I have a chance to reach him, he turns and rushes off. I make sure he disappears before climbing back into my car.

I am torn if I should mention it to Maya or not. There could be a chance I am being paranoid or overprotective, but I really have a terrible feeling that it could be her ex. But if I tell her, she may spiral. Fuck! I don’t know what to do.

For now, she is safe in the building. There is security, and also you need a badge to enter. And if someone shows up to see one of the employees, security doesn’t let them up until they confirm with the individual they are expecting a visitor and know the person.

I will return when she is due lunch to ensure he isn’t hanging around again. I will also be here to pick her up when she finishes. I am going to be worrying all day, but telling her without knowing for certain it is who I think it is will scare her, and that is the last thing I want.

I sigh and start the car, heading for my office. I will keep in contact with her throughout the day. I need to keep my eyes open whenever I am around because if he keeps appearing, he will regret it because he has me to deal with. Maya isn’t alone anymore, so he won’t get anywhere near her. I hope it isn’t him, but my gut tells me differently.
