The day has been amazing. I have reached a level of happiness I’ve never experienced before. I can’t help but smile as I watch Maya dance with Chelsea and her friends. I thought she would be exhausted, but she seems okay.
“Is it okay if I join you, son?” Mom asks from next to me.
I smile up at her, “Of course you can.”
She takes her seat next to me. “I am so proud of you, son. You stayed true to your promise to Maya through it all. I wish you both a life and marriage filled with incredible moments.”
She seems to be on the verge of tears. I reach for her hand and squeeze, “Thank you. I am just happy we got here after everything that happened.”
“Me too, but I knew you would. You and Maya are meant to be together.”
“Yes, we are.”
“How far along is she?” she whispers with a smirk.
I give her a puzzled look. “What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean, sweetie. Maya is pregnant.” She laughs.
“How did you figure it out?”
“She has the glow and hasn’t had a drink, not even one.”
I should have realized that my mom would have figured it out. Moms know everything.
“We aren’t quite sure yet. She only found out a couple of days ago. Please, don’t say anything. We want to keep it a secret until she has seen the doctor, and we confirm Maya, and the baby are fine.”
“You can trust me to keep your secret safe. I can’t believe you are having a baby. I am going to have another grandbaby.” She says, tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Thank you. I know, I am so excited. I just need to make sure that Maya still gets what she wants. I want her to go back to school and finish what she started. I want her to get her dream job, even if it means me taking time off.” I reply.
“You two will work it out. You never fail to do so. Whenever you need help, your father, Chelsea, Adrian, and I are available. Maya and you will make wonderful parents.” She beams, kissing my cheek.
“That means a lot. It came as a surprise. Although we hadn’t planned for babies at this moment, it seems the universe had different plans for us. It’s going to be absolutely amazing.”
My attention shifts back to Maya. She must have felt me looking because her eyes meet mine and she smiles brightly. Wow, she is just so beautiful. The dress she’s wearing is stunning as if it was designed specifically for her.
When she comes over, I guide her to sit on my lap. Softly, she plants a kiss on my lips.
“What are you two gossiping about?” she laughs.
“My mom knows. I didn’t tell her. She figured it out.”
“You know I am pregnant?” Maya asks.
She nods. “Yes, but I promise I won’t tell anyone, not until you are all ready. I’m thrilled for both of you and excited to meet the little one.”
“That is greatly appreciated. I am excited, but I don’t think I will be able to relax until I have seen the doctor.”
“I get it, honey, but I’m positive that everything will be okay.”
Mom hugs us both before she disappears to join my father on the dance floor. Maya sits beside me and rests her head on my shoulder. I wrap my arm around her and give her a kiss on the top of her head.
“Are you getting tired now, angel?”
“A little, yes.”
“Do you want to go back to our room?”
She shakes her head. “No, it is okay. There is just one hour left. I will make it. Though I am hungry again.” She snickers.
“What do you desire?”
“I could go for a treat that’s sweet and tasty.”
I peck her lips and stroll over to the table. I glance down and smile. We have the same tiny deserts we shared the first night we met. I choose a few, place them on a plate, and get her some water as well before I join her.
“Here you go, beautiful. I hope you and Peanut enjoy them.”
“Oh, yum.” She celebrates, tucking straight in.
She offers me one, but I tell her no. After satisfying her craving, she rests her head on my shoulder again.
“Today has been perfect, hasn’t it, husband?”
It is like the twentieth time she has called me it today and every time sounds better than the first.
“It has been my beautiful wife. The day couldn’t have been more perfect. I love you so much.” I reply and plant a kiss on her forehead.
I thought today may have been hard for her since she didn’t have any family, not blood, but then I realised, with all of us, she had made her own family.
“I love you too, so much.”
I place my free hand on her stomach and plead, “Please, stop worrying. You and our little one will be absolutely perfect, I’m certain.”
“I know, but I can’t help it.” She whispers.
“Everything will be okay. Positive thoughts. I can call tomorrow from here and book an appointment for the day we arrive home.” I promise.
“Thank you, my love.”
I’m determined to find the absolute best one, regardless of the price.
“Rest assured; I’ll ensure that both of you are well looked after.”
She lifts her eyes towards me, confidently stating, “I know you will. You always do.”
“And I always will, no matter what.”
I am ready for our life from here on out. We shouldn’t have anything to worry about with the bastard behind bars. Maya and I have been through too damn much, more her than me, but none of that matters now. Despite the world’s attempts to separate us, we managed to stay strong together. We are now happily married, excitedly anticipating the arrival of our first baby, and mapping out our future together. We are unbreakable. If it could, it would have happened by now.
“Tell me, angel, do you have one last dance in you?”
“For you, always.”
I spring to my feet and present my hand to her. Smiling broadly, she grasps my hand. I help her up and lead her to the dancefloor. It is the best way to end our perfect day. We still have a few days here, and I want to use them to help Maya unwind. It’s been wonderful having everyone here, but I can’t wait to have some alone time with my beautiful wife before we head back home.
