(Hey, everyone, thank you so much for joining me on the journey of Conrad and Maya. I hope you loved reading it as much as I did writing it. There is only another, maybe 2-3 chapters left and an epilogue. It has been a fun journey, but the time is coming to say goodbye to Conrad and Maya)
Maya
Tonight is my last night of being unmarried. Tomorrow is the wedding and I can’t believe it. It came faster than we could have anticipated. It’s been great lately, everyone unwinding and spending time together. I have no idea how Conrad pulled it off without me noticing, but everyone from Scotland is here as well. It is so good to see them. My time in Scotland would have been lonely if it weren’t for them. They turned it into my home away from home and I’m thrilled to have them here on our special day.
Chelsea and I are sharing a room tonight. Conrad is with his two brothers. She is sound asleep. My nerves won’t let me sleep, so I’m outside with a cup of warm tea, hoping it will calm my stomach. I’m looking forward to tomorrow, but the thought of people staring at me is making me nervous. My focus will be on Conrad, who is waiting for me.
Tomorrow looks promising, fingers crossed for our outdoor wedding. The view here is truly breathtaking and has left me in awe. It’s unbelievable that I’m getting married to the most incredible man in such a gorgeous place.
I had something I needed to talk to Conrad about, but it could wait another couple of days. Our focus right now is on tomorrow. My cell beeps from next to me. Looking down, I notice a message from my future husband with a photo attached. I grab it, open it, and let out a giggle. He is lying in bed with a pout on his lips.
I miss you. I’m having trouble sleeping xx
I can’t sleep, either. I miss you too. How about we sneak out and spend some time together? It can be our little secret xx
The original plan was to stay apart until our wedding.
Yes, let’s do it. Meet me by the pool? It’s a bit chilly, so remember to bring a hoodie or a blanket xx
See you there, my love. xx
With a smile, I sneak back inside, covering myself with one of Conrad’s hoodies and slip on my shoes. I make sure to be quiet as I leave the room. It makes me feel like a teenager sneaking out to see her boyfriend without her parent’s permission. My room is only minutes from the pool.
With his feet in the water, Conrad is already waiting by the pool. I go over to join him, doing the exact same thing.
“You can’t survive one night without me, uh?” I snicker.
He laughs and shakes his head. “Nope. I am needy like that.”
He moves closer and gives me a gentle kiss.
“Mmm, I don’t mind,” I mumble into his lips.
With a smirk, he breaks away from the kiss. I move nearer to him and lay my head on his shoulder. He wraps his arm around me and plants a gentle kiss on the top of my head.
“Are you ready for tomorrow, sweetheart?”
I glance up at him. “Yes. Are you? You won’t get another chance to change your mind after this.”
“There is absolutely nothing in this world that could make me reconsider marrying you, Maya,” he says, smiling and placing a gentle kiss on my forehead.
Closing my eyes, I let out a contented sigh. “Good, I was hoping you would say that.”
“I love you and I want nothing more than to make you my wife.”
“Tomorrow is going to be perfect.” I gush.
“Yes, it is. The most perfect day ever,” he says as he gently strokes my cheek.
With a bright smile, I peck his lips and then settle back into his arms, resting my head on his shoulder. I get lost in my thoughts as I stare at the stars in the sky.
Conrad’s hand rests on my thigh. “Angel, are you alright?”
Maybe now would be the perfect time to tell him. I pull away and turn around, crossing my legs. Conrad wears a confused expression as he does the same.
“There’s something I need to tell you. I had planned to wait until after our wedding, but now feels like the right moment.” I answer, nerverously.
I’m not sure how he will react, but it is time to find out. I’m still wrapping my mind around it.
Conrad reaches for my hand. “What is on your mind?”
Inhaling deeply, and answer, “Do you remember when I was unwell a couple of weeks ago?”
He nods, “Yes.”
“Um, so, it turns out there was more to it.”
It seems like he’s not catching on to what I’m trying to say.
“Maya, what is going on? Please tell me you aren’t seriously sick?” he panics.
I shake my head. “No, it is nothing like that. Conrad, I’m pregnant. On our first day here, I took a test because my period hadn’t come.”
It definitely came as a shock. It’s what we wanted, but not this soon. It was meant to be part of our future plans. I fix my eyes on him, anxious about his reaction.
A bright expression takes over his face and a wide smile forms on his lips. “What? Are you serious? We’re expecting a little one!”
“The three tests I took told me so, but I would like to confirm it when we return home. I believe the tests were right because it all adds up. I know it wasn’t supposed to happen right now. What are your thoughts?”
Yes, his reaction, he seemed happy, but I want him to tell me in words.
“I feel a mix of happiness, overwhelm, and excitement, to name a few emotions. I know it was part of the plan for later. If you decide to have our baby, I promise to support you in going back to college and starting your dream job. I’m willing to take a year or two off for that. I want our baby, Maya, but I also don’t want it to change the plans you wanted for yourself. We will make it work.”
“Are you really willing to do that?”
“Without a doubt, my love, I would. How do you feel about it? Are you ready to become a mother sooner than planned?” he asks softly.
I shouldn’t be shocked that he would go to such lengths for me and our child.
“Yes, I want our baby. Although it’s a major change, we’ll be okay because it’s us.”
I see a few stray tears roll down his cheek. “I love you so much, Maya, and I can’t wait to meet our little one.”
He places his hand on my stomach. I lay my hand on top of his.
“I love you too. And same. Can we please keep this between us for now? Before we reveal the news, I want to make sure everything is alright with our baby and me.”
“Yes, it can stay between us for now.” He replies and kisses me.
“I’m sure you didn’t see this news coming the day before our wedding.” I giggle.
He laughs and shakes his head. “No, I did not, but I really am happy, Maya. You’ll be stunning during pregnancy. Our baby will be absolutely perfect. You will be an amazing mother.”
“Thank you. You are going to be an incredible father. I just know it.”
Our baby will be showered with love, not just by us.
“It will be amazing.”
He repeatedly kisses me before embracing me tightly. I had been concerned about how he would react, but it was unnecessary. I’ve always longed for a family and now I have one. I’ll only relax once I’m certain everything is fine.
