Chapter One Hundred and Thirty Three - Can we do it sooner?

Conrad

We had been back home in New York for a couple of days. After all the travelling and the time difference, we are still exhausted but settling back in nicely. I had made plans for us tonight. It is a surprise for Maya, one I hope she likes. I am sure she will. It is a way for her to relax and have fun. I want to find ways for us to have a lot of fun for the next few days before the trial starts next week. We need to go in and see my Lawyer before the case, too. I don’t want her focus to be on that. I know it is playing on her mind. I want to try to make her forget about it, even for a few days.

I am in my office, doing a little work. I haven’t gone back to the office yet, but I will go back tomorrow. I don’t have much to do. A knock on my door grabs my attention.

“Maya, you need to knock on my door, angel,” I call out, laughing.

The door creaks open, and she pops her head in. “I wasn’t sure if you were on a video call. Do you have a minute?”

“I always have time for you, sweetheart. What is on your mind?”

She comes in and strolls over to me. She hops on my desk. I roll my chair to where she is and pull her into my lap, “Better.” I chuckle.

She snickers, “Yes.”

“So, what is on your mind?”

She becomes nervous when I ask. What could be making her nervous? She can always talk to me without issue.

“Our wedding.” She whispers.

“What about it? Have you changed your mind?”

She shakes her head, “No, of course not. I am wondering what your thoughts would be about us getting married in a few months. I know it doesn’t give us much time to plan, but it isn’t going to be a big wedding. I think it would be doable.” She says, chewing on her lip anxiously.

We talked about six months to a year.

“Is that what you want?”

“Yes, if that is what you want. I don’t want to wait too long. We have already lost time together, and I don’t want to waste any more. If it is too soon, I would understand.”

“Angel, come on now, you know I would marry you tomorrow. We could make that work. Do you still want to get married in Italy?” I beam.

I would fly to Vegas tonight and marry her if she wanted that. I wanted nothing more in this world than to make her my wife.

Her entire face lights up, and her eyes widen, “We can do it then?”

I smile brightly and nod eagerly, “Yes, we can. Let’s do it. We can start planning straight away. I am sure my mother and sister will be happy to help. I can’t wait to marry you, Maya. I want nothing more in this world. It would make me the happiest and proudest day of my life.”

She claps her eyes and grins from ear to ear, “Yay! I am so excited. We should start planning as soon as possible. I want to be your wife. I don’t want to wait any longer.”

I kissed her with everything I had in me. I am so glad she wanted to do it sooner. I wanted to suggest it, but I didn’t want to put any pressure on her with everything that was going on.

“We can try to find a venue first and work everything else from there. Do you want to invite Catherine, Margaret and everyone else you got close with while away?”

“I would love that, but I need to see if they can get the time off and have the money. It shouldn’t be an issue for Catherine and her husband because they own many businesses. I am not sure about everyone else.” She sighs.

I want them to be there because she doesn’t have anyone else in her life. If I need to, I will send my private jet to pick them up or pay for their flights and rooms. We want to keep the numbers small, which I am fine with. It will be easier to plan that way, too. That is all that matters as long as the most important people are there.

“We will work something out. I promise. We can decide where to get married and go from there.”

“Good plan. Is Italy where you want to get married?”

I caress her cheek, “Yes. I am happy with Italy. We can see if we can find a vineyard or maybe a nice country house or something on the beach.”

There are plenty of places. We will find the perfect one, no matter the cost. I wanted it to be a day we will remember. I want Maya to feel like a princess. She doesn’t have family, not blood, anyway, and I don’t want that to make her feel sad or anything.

“I would be happy with any of those options. The only thing that matters to me is I walk down the aisle to you, my love.” She coos, kissing all over my face.

“I will be standing there with the biggest smile on my face and tears in my eyes.”

I don’t doubt for a second that I won’t cry. I will. The second I see her coming towards me in her dress, tears will stream down my cheeks.

“You will cry?” she asks softly.

“Yes, I know I will. I can’t wait to see you in your dress, sweetheart. I know you are going to look beautiful—the most beautiful you have ever looked.”

She blushes at my words, “You will look so handsome, too. We are really doing this, uh?”

“Yes, we are,” I reply, taking her lips in mine.

Three months is more than enough time to arrange everything we need.

When we part from the kiss, she dips her head down, her lips against my neck, trailing them along my skin, “Once you are done, I will be waiting in the bedroom for you so we can celebrate.” She purrs, biting down on my neck.

I groan and swat her ass, “I will be there in ten minutes.”

She smirked, climbed off my lap, and sauntered out of my office. I smirk as I watch after her. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate with her. I will finish up as quickly as I can.
