Lewis is lying on his bed while Garrick is curled up beside him. The phone rings unexpectedly and Garrick almost jumps out of his fur. Lewis makes a grunting sound and rolls over to the other side of the bed to get his phone. He does not bother to look at who is calling and answers the call.
"Hello… uhm, Lewis speaking. Who are you to call by this ungodly hour?" He asks with a gruff voice and sleepy eyes.
"It's me. And it is not an ungodly hour, Lewis. It is well past nine and you have a job that required constant attention, if I remembered correctly." The voice says through the phone's speaker.
Lewis only groans at this and sits upright on his bed.
"What do you want Amber?" He asks, while he is rubbing his eyes with his left hand.
"You really are very grumpy when you wake up. Anybody told you that yet? Come on, where is sunshine Lewis? This is kinda the right time for him to show up, you know." Amber teases him but he can also sense a hint of sadness in her tone.
"No, Amber. I do not know. I think I drank too much wine while me and Garrick were binging Grey's anatomy last night. It was a long night. No kids, no wife, I deserve my beauty sleep." Lewis responds like a bratty child.
"Beauty slept, huh. Emily must be rubbing off on you faster than I thought." Amber laughs at this. Lewis is quiet and waits for her to say something else. When she does not, he blurts out.
"What do you need, Amber?"
Amber sighs deeply and takes a while to respond. She uses a false, cheery tone.
"First, how did your fitting go? You never got back to me about the party or anything." Amber asks him.
"Wait, how did you know I went for fittings yesterday?" He asks, he is alarmed that she is aware of his whereabouts when the store they shopped at was really far from the office.
"Calm down, big guy. Sheryl lives around the area. She told me she saw you with the R&E princess. Do not fret, I did not mention anything about our case. So, what is the tea? Spill." Amber uses a stern tone to make Lewis release the information he has.
Lewis gets out of bed, with the phone to his ear and walks to the kitchen. He begins to make some coffee and opens up the bridge to find if he can make something up for breakfast.
"Doctor Richard started luring people to the hospital, probably to harvest their organs, with an anti aging serum earlier on when R&E wasn't as big as we know it now. People who signed up to test out the serum never returned home afterwards. Many people were beginning to turn up missing and that tactic was shut down when investigations started going into what exactly was leading to all the missing persons." Lewis informs Amber.
Amber is quiet for a while.
"This goes bigger than we think. This is just straight up demonic. I can not even imagine this. It sounds like a scene straight from a movie. Did you get any evidence?" Amber asks, she is tired of them discovering more life threatening truths without any evidence to use as defense.
"Yeah, I have recordings of my sources making the confessions. You would also like to know that Doctor Richard is a very devious employer. Almost all his staff have one sob story or another. It is almost like he creates blackmail to make them hooked to him for the rest of their lives. It is horrible." Lewis almost shivers at the thought of having to work under that murderer every single day without a chance to turn in a resignation letter and wave them two middle fingers for goodbye.
"It is indeed sad. What about Emily? Does she seem crazy too? Or intense maybe. Any signs of mania running through her?"
"Well, I have not spotted any signs in Em. She is just really bossy, entitled, demanding and rude. The whole spoilt princess package. You get the vibe." Lewis says. He almost laughs as a memory of Emily comes to mind.
"Em? Y'all are sharing nicknames already… be careful, Lewis." Amber warns Lewis. She does not want to say too much, he is well capable of protecting himself. So, she will not act like the overbearing mother.
"Any other updates?" She asks. She is ready to drop the call, she can hear Rocky's cries in the nursery. He has just woken up.
"Well, I got my first designer outfit and I looked like a Prince in it. Like a real life Caucasian prince. You should have seen me. Anyway, you will see me. I will make sure to send you pictures, so you do not miss out on all this glam." Lewis and Amber both laugh.
"Oh please, I know you will end in a shiny tux, nothing else. I am not about to waste precious brain cells on pictures of you and Emily looking like Ken and Barbie." Amber responds.
"Hahaha. I have missed your sense of humour. I'll probably stop by at the office with pizza and a bottle of wine after this party deal is done with. There is a lot of catching up we need to do." Lewis tells her, he is oblivious to the fact that Amber is no longer with the police.
Amber goes quiet and is trying to choose her words carefully without breaking down.
"Uhm, I do not think we could be able to meet at the office, Lewis." She says quietly.
"Why not? You owe me the tea on Jacob, you know.. "
Lewis holds the phone with his shoulder pressed to his ear while he stirs eggs in a bowl.
"We just can not. Some things happened when I got back from looking for Jacob." Amber does not want to say it out loud. She fears she might begin to cry on the call. Lewis is hesitant at first.
"Come on, Amber. You have to give me something more than that."
"I was fired, okay? I was fired!" Amber yells into the phone.
