Chapter 74: The Truth
Vishiea’s POV
While I am on my way I am still thinking why Darius let himself to be in that situation. Why would he let Rachelle use her Dark magic on him? Did he intentionally do that on purpose?
“Lady Anastasia, the king is indeed sick. It's been a month since he rejects treatment. Even the known doctors tried to cure him but he didn't let them.” Adam said, I looked at him. Why is he telling this to me?
Why would Darius reject all the doctors to treat him? Is he out of his mind? He's the king and a palace can't stand alone without a king. What is he thinking?
Is it because of what Rachelle did to him? Can't he accept that his beloved Fiancée betrayed him using her dark magic on him?
“If I found out that you're lying don't make me see your face again Adam.” I warned him. He nodded his head.
“Lady Anastasia, the king is sick. The palace is in deep chaos right now because of his condition and we are Afraid it would affect the palace.” He said. He's the king yet he's acting childish.
“Three months had passed, he came back refusing to eat or talk to anyone. At first we thought he's just experiencing something but then he continued to reject us. He only stays in his room, he doesn't and if he does he only eats a little bit.” He said, trying to convince me that he's actually telling the truth.
Yet, that's not enough to make me believe that the king is indeed dying. I need to see it miss that he’s dying and I would believe it.
How many times Darius lied to me? Not even once, twice or thrice. He didn't just lie, he betrayed me and it's hard to trust again. That's why I don't know if they are actually telling the truth.
“If he's dying, why would Rachelle use dark magic on him? What exactly happened?” I asked Adam. He was silent for the meantime.
“I am not in the right position to explain Lady Anastasia. However, it turned out she was blinded by jealousy, that's why she did that.” He uttered. Jealousy? For who? It's been three months since Darius and I didn't see each other. The last time we talked was when I already rejected him.
Is this because of another woman? Did Darius cheated on her just like what he did to me? Is this the former king's plan again?
“Jealous? Maybe because the king had another woman” I murmured he seemed to have heard it, that's why he looked at me.
That's definitely the reason. If it's not all about the throne then maybe it's about another woman.
“The truth is, since the day he went to plead for your forgiveness, when he went home soaked with rain that day everything started with Lady Anastasia. He began to avoid the future queen, and didn't want to talk to her even for just a second. He started to disobey the former king and refuse to talk to anyone” he stated. I was speechless because of what I heard.
But I thought, were things already fixed between us? I thought we were done talking that day. Is it all because of me? Is he telling the truth?
But that was three months ago. I looked at Adam.
“You mean, starting that day, he never left his room?” I asked him. He slowly nodded his head.
What the hell is he doing? Is he trying to torture himself? Is he out of his mind?
After all those days, I thought he chose to live a life with Rachelle. I didn't expect that he would do such things like that.
“He's too weak to even walk out of his room Lady Anastasia, we know that you're the only one who can talk to him. Please we are begging, for the sake of the king” He said pleading.
Does that mean that Darius that day, he meant everything he did? But I thought it was just part of his plan?
I closed my fist. Why does it feel like I am the one to blame because of what happened to him? Why does it feel like I am responsible for everything?
Darius, I thought you already moved on. Rachelle was there for you. You choose her because it was the former king's order. You bear not to see me, talk to me, you choose to reject me that day. But now why are you doing this? Why should I feel conscience right now?
“Did he expect me to be there?” I asked him. He shook his head.
“Since that day, he has always thought of you, Lady Anastasia. He tried to stop himself to check on you. He chose to stay in the palace, to stop bothering you because that is what you want and he respects your decision.” He told me. I don't know what to say.
I am too speechless to utter a word.
“He tried not to disturb you, Lady Anastasia. But there's no days he wants to see you. He wants to check on you but he restrains himself from doing that. He wants to visit you but he chose to stay in the palace” he said, and now I already know what happened to him in those three months.
I thought he focused on himself. That's the reason why Rachelle did that to him.
That's the reason why Rachelle was exiled.
After an hour we arrived at the palace. The guard led me the way and nothing changed. It's already night when we arrived and no one is outside the palace. It is so quite unlike before.
We walk though the hallway. I am still confused about what makes me happy. I kept on asking myself if I made the right decision, if Adam is actually telling the truth.
“Lady Anastasia, we are here. We're just going to stay outside. The king is lying on his bed, " Adam said and they opened the door.
I slowly entered the room. It's quiet. I turned around and saw the place was neat but then the noise caught my attention. Someone is coughing. When I checked who it was my eyes widened.
I saw Darius coughing with blood and he was so pale. He saw me standing in front of him and I was at a loss for words.
