Chapter 10 Chapter Ten

Chapter 10 Chapter Ten
KING’S POV
When I invited her to dinner, I wasn’t expecting the gesture to make any difference to her. I mean, she must have gone to hundreds of these at least with that bastard she’d been dating but I’m learning everyday that with her, I can’t lead with assumptions. It’s like she’s only existed, barely ever lived.
Leaning back in my chair, I watch her smile and light up like a child in her favorite candy store at everything, feeling a smidgen of guilt for using her yet again as cover for my personal business. I don’t actually think she’d have refused if I had come clean and asked nicely but it’s better for the both of us that she stays in the dark about this side of me.
It won’t matter In the long run anyways, this is just a fling that ends here even though I’m invested now in making it worth her while, so there’s no need to tip the balance and give her the burden of knowing.
“I don’t think I can fit any other thing inside me.” She says coyly, taking yet another spoonful of the hotel’s daring take on frozen haute chocolate into her mouth. Her tongue dart out to welcome the dessert into the warm recess of her mouth, her eyes fluttering close briefly and I wish to hell and back I wasn’t fucking stuck on the opposite side of the table being tortured. I want to have my own taste from her pretty lips.
I’ll give anything to leave this whole bullshit right now and be in either of our beds instead, putting that thirsty comment of hers to the test, finishing what we started in the elevator.
She’d looked ready to beg me for an orgasm when we first got here and that had gone straight to crotch, impossible to ignore. And now it’s a look I want to restore.
The door to the restaurant open behind her and my eyes lift in time to catch it grant entrance to two men that match what I came looking here for. Fernando Martinez, unmistakable with his prominent Latino features and a furiously receding hairline he won’t let go of, is a man I’ve never met in person but his reputation proceeds him. He’s a thorn in the sides of the Godfathers, stirring trouble and birthing chaos wherever he goes but he’s not the star of today’s show. The younger, smallish, Asian looking man beside him looking around like he’s expecting an army to match in right after them and gun his ass down is.
He’s rumored to have ties to the darker half of the Asian crime syndicate, a rogue per say, selling Intel and illegal chemical ammo that’s going to be the pinnacle of this looming war Yasuki is trying to manage. He knows how deadly the Asian mob can get if unchecked. He’d been in one and the one time he turned a blind eye to rogue business, he’d barely gotten out with his life and he has a missing limb to show for it.
“Are you okay?”
Remembering I’m on a date, I turn to Candy with an apologetic smile. I’d found the name funny when id read it off her file but I guess it suits her. “Yeah.”
“You seem distracted.” She persists, trying and failing to mask her concern with a careless shrug.
“Yeah, guess I can’t wait to get you out of here and back under me.”
Her immediate blush never seems to tire me as I watch the color tint her cheeks at the lie. Well, It’s technically not a full lie, I’ve wanted that every moment since I had her the first time to the point where it bothers me. It’s probably because I abstained for much longer than my body was ready for and now that it’s tasting pleasure again it’s going wild but here we are.
Slightly biting the corner of her lower lip, her eyes filling with lust, she whispers across the table, “Me too.”
Hot.
“Give me a minute and I’ll get us out of here.”
Standing from the table, I discreetly scan the dimly lit intimate room for my bastards, glad to find, they’re seated in the perfect place to ease my plan. I walk casually in the general direction of the bathroom, avoiding anything that might raise their suspicions or send their skittish asses zipping out the door before I can get anything in a worst case scenario.
As soon as I’m out of sight, I ask direction to the bathroom from a couple waitresses that couldn’t be bothered to lead me there to establish my excuse, making a quick detour to the storage room adjacent them the moment I’m out of sight. I’d found it the first time I’d gotten on this case, chasing fucking shadows here with nothing but corrupt Intel.
Without wasting a second, I take out my baby, a VOR single button long recording magnetic mini voice recorder, mounting it out the window closer to them. Whatever it is they’re negotiating, this will catch it and it might just be what I need to save our asses and get out of here.
Before anyone can start questioning my disappearance, I go back out. I’ll have Charlie wipe any camera footage that even remotely puts me in there just in case they get on my trail and do some digging, but that’ll be later, right now I have a date to return to and my absence to make up for.
As soon as I walk back into the dinning area, my eyes lock on the disturbing scene unfolding at my table, anger and utter disgust ripping through me. Apparently, the fucker that is Martinez had creeped over to my table after I left and is making a show of making my date uncomfortable while his accomplice watched from across the room like a fucking pervert.
I know the sensible thing to do is to wait his gallant play at stupidity out but I’ve never been popular avoiding rather than attacking. I don’t give two piece of flying fucks if he recognizes me right now but I won’t have him keep trying to put his dirty hands on my fucking date.
Going back to our table, I stop just shy of him pinning him with a dark look that questions his rotten behavior.
“Is everything okay here.”
“Oh yes, I was just keeping the lovely lady company.” He rushes to answer, shushing Candy who’d looked about ready to beg to be rescued. He has the audacity to smile, his unsightly tobacco yellowed teeth on display. I can see why she recoiled with disgust the moment he opened his mouth.
“That’s a problem now cause she’s with me.” I spit, daring him to stay a second longer.
“My bad, I thought she was Fair play.” He says too calmly, watching me with a pondering look. He’s trying to place my face, that I’m sure of. What I don’t know is how long I have until he actually figures it out.
“No fight my man, I’ll leave your pussy to you.” He says when I move a step closer, sauntering away. It takes every thing I’m worth not to go after the bastard and pound his face in right now until it’s a bloody mess. I won’t let him have the pleasure. But when I leave here, I’ll remember those words and I’ll make him eat them.
Turning to a quite shaken and very repulsed Candy, I grimace. I can bet my life she’s not been in a position to face this kind of situation before not to mention handle it. Fuck that bastard.
“I’m sorry.”
“Can you get me out of here, please.” She says near tears. What the fuck did that bastard say to her?
“Sure.”
Sorting out or bills and all, I take her out of the restaurant as fast as I can.
The elevator ride back to our floor is quiet and nothing like it’d been on descent and I feel real sorry she has to add this too to all she’s already dealing with.
Holding her hand, I walk her to her room door. I kiss her goodnight on the cheeks like a gentleman before leaving her to go inside. Going to mine, I have the reminder that this is my fault hanging heavy in my mind.
I make it to a few steps to my door before I hear her call my name and not in her usual sweet, small voice.
She actually sounds terrified.
