Chapter 17
Jade is here and he’s smiling as I approach him. I heard that he did an interview and defended me about the articles that has been circling around the media… and dad is pleased by it.
“Thank you.” That’s the first thing I said to him and he smiles widely.
“It’s nothing.”
Because I’m still forbidden to go out we have to hang out inside the house and I was really bored that I was kind of happy to have Jade here at the house because both mom and dad isn’t here at the house because they’re working and avoiding each other.
Dad goes home late and mom leaves early for work so they never see each other and I think it’s working but I know they can’t keep avoiding each other especially when they work in the same company and despite having different offices they still have meetings together… and that also means that Ezra’s dad and dad see each other and I think Aunt Marie isn’t working as of the moment… so I guess that’s that.
We watch movies and eat in the couch and we also played video games and because we were so busy with our activities for a moment I forgot about the problems that I have been dealing for the past days and I didn’t even realize that it was night time. If mom didn’t arrive we would have forgot to eat dinner.
“I’m glad that you’re smiling again. I’m sorry with all of this that we’re dealing right now.”
Jade ate dinner with us but he didn’t stay for long as he has work the following day. Now Mom and I are cleaning the table, we always do this when I was still young and now that we’re doing it now I can’t help but be sentimental… I missed this moments.
“This is not your fault mom… and I’m happy that despite of the things that’s happening right now, we still manage to keep ourselves together… you’re so strong mom.”
“I have to be… I don’t want yo be seen as weak especially by you… I’m leading an example right? And I think I’m doing it right seeing that you’re so strong despite of what our family is being like…. and I feel so guilty because I don’t want you to experience this things… I want you to be happy and to live a normal life.”
“Dad is fucked up.” That made mom’s eyes wide.
“Didn’t expect that from you… but you’re right but I love him… and I love our family.”
“Is that why we’re still here despite him messing up big time? I know you don’t want to see him and I feel the same way.”
“I know that you hate your dad but he’s still the man who raised you… and we’re still here because even though I know that we’re never going to fix this… I don’t want to burden you with all the media once they will find out why we’re separated.”
“Oh… I thought because of the business.” She shake her head.
“I care about it but not as much as I care for you and you’re well being… don’t worry we’ll escape and live our life happily… not now but in time. We’ll live abroad and you’ll go to school there and we’ll start anew.”
The next few days were a blur as I didn’t really do much of work but tonight is going to be big… for dad who’s making a big deal out of this because Jade’s parents are coming to our house to have dinner…. and I think they’re here already because mom is already calling me downstairs.
“Hey.” I immediately greeted Jade and his parents but I can sense that his mom isn’t a fan of me right now and I don’t really blame her.
We immediately went to the dinning room and both of our dad is busy with their business talk while I listen to Jade’s mom telling how she wished things were different and that her son shouldn’t have tied up to a girl who’s in love with another man. I can’t count how many times I cursed in my head and how I wish to go to my room and isolate myself.
“Mom, that’s enough.” Jade said and hold my hand under the table.
“What? I’m just stating facts and you shouldn’t defend her… she’s capable of doing that herself.”
“She’s right and I’m not going to deny the fact that I loved him but that also doesn’t mean that I can’t love Jade… we’re still young and I’m still getting to know him and the same goes for him… we have a long way and I like him… and his company.” I said that made everyone silent and my eyes caught my dad smiling that made me pout.
His mom cough and continue to eat dinner and just like that everything return to the way it was… Jade holds my hand and smile at me… he then whispered. “That was cool, no one ever talked to my mom like that… I must admit, I’m impressed.” I roll my eyes and shake my head at him.
The dinner smoothly sailed and now they’re going home. Jades’ mom looks at me as we bid our goodbye. “You’re a strong woman, don’t let anything bring you down… and you should answer the reporters regarding this matter. It will clear things up and it’s better to say anything than being silent… they might think that you’re guilty.”
All agreed on that and I’m kind of scared to do so but I know she’s right, I need to defeat myself to the media… and to the people who looked down at me.
“You did good today.” Dad said and I didn’t say anything but I can’t help but scoff.
Dad only wants the best for him, yesterday I was a bad daughter and now I’m a good daughter… he only thinks of me as an object he can use but not a person who he cares for… and that sucks when all I want is to be love by my father.
