Chapter 10
I hold the necklace that Ezra gave me. We’re currently here at the beach for our summer vacation and if you look everyone, everything seems to be normal but I’m not blind. I can read the room and it’s not the same anymore.
I scoff. How funny because the last time we were in a beach vacation I caught my dad and aunt Marie kissing each other in the kitchen.. it’s kind of traumatizing especially that we’re here at the same place we went before.
“You look distracted.”
The only difference from this vacation was his girl friend was nowhere to be found which I am really pleased… there will be time to talk to Ezra especially that our friendship really took a strain with all that’s happening around us.
I actually don’t know how I remain friends with his despite my feelings for him for a long time. I don’t know if he noticed but I doubt he didn’t. He knows me and we grew up together… I believe he knows he just didn’t acknowledged it… maybe scared that things will chance especially that we know it’s impossible… because our parents already made it clear that we are to marry someone who’s going to bring our business to the top.
“Just enjoying the peace and quiet. It’s weird not to worry about homework anymore.”
He sat beside me with a smile on his face. “Well that won’t happen for long. We’re going to be seniors and before you know it, we’re college students.” I just smile at that.
I’m scared of the future… but I keep reminding myself not to and thought of what Ezra said on our graduation day… so maybe I’ll make the most of today.
I look at my parents and pouted upon seeing them being so close to each other and whispering on each other’s ears. Ezra’s parents on the other hand looks like they’re talking about something serious and his dad were all smiles as he look at her with adoration… I guess I’m the only who’s weird.
I smile at Ezra and hold his hands. “Let’s go for a swim.” I said and before he could say anything, I drag him to the ocean despite him laughing and telling me to stop.
We spend the whole day at the beach and I actually don’t care about getting sunburn but it’s been a while since I let myself enjoy and not think of anything but enjoying life… but that didn’t last long when our parents called us for dinner.
“We have a news.” Ezra’s dad suddenly said that made me look at Ezra but he just shrugged his shoulder and he looks lost… I don’t feel good about this. “We’re pregnant.”
Everyone was shock and for a couple of moments we were silent until mom broke it and immediately ran to aunt Marie to congratulate her while I stare at dad who’s talking to Ezra’s dad who’s looking proud.
I looked at Ezra and he just smirk while shaking his head. “You knew?” I can’t help but asked.
“I sensed it, I’m just waiting for them to tell me.” He said and lean closer to me. “You don’t have to worry about anything anymore… our family is happy the way we are.” I nodded at him, I can’t say anything as there’s a lump in my throat… I feel sick but I really can’t do anything about it.
The vacation ended pretty fast as both our parents has businesses to take care to and I immediately knew what was coming now that we’re backed home. My parents are going to make me work at the company… preparing me for the future.
“I found you a match.” Dad said as we were having dinner at our house. “Instead of working for the company this summer, I want you to get to know this man. It’s time to prepare you for your marriage.”
My mouth open as dad said that. I didn’t know I would hate him this much. I couldn’t say anything and I was just silent upon eating my meal.
“We have to prepare them. I’m sure who ever this man is… he’s going to be wonderful for you. Your dad is good at picking a match.”
“I’m not so sure about that.” I whispered that I think dad heard because he’s giving me a glare.
True to their words, they set me up on a date and now I’m here in front of a guy who I barely know but he’s kind of handsome but I got this boastful vibe from him.
“I don’t like you… and I only went here because my parents told me… so don’t waste your time trying to impress me.”
He smirk at that. “I’m Jade and you’re Kate.” I raised my brows at him. “You’re pretty interesting and for your information I was also force to come here… so I guess we have something in common.”
“I doubt that. There’s nothing in common with us. You look like you just make up with anyone and is not serious with life and studies.”
“That’s not entirely true but we do have something in common… stubbornness.”
I shake my head at him. “Then I’ll take that as you don’t want to see me again because that’s what I want too.”
He shake his head with a smirk on his face, he lean on his seat as he cross his arms. “I don’t know, I kind of want to get you more.” He raised his brows at me and I just want to smack him in the face.
“I don’t feel the same and I’m not like your girls. I don’t give in easily and lastly I don’t even find you attractive, I bet the only good thing you have is your parents’ money, and that’s the reason why girls go to you.”
“You’re rude… and I’m older than you.”
“Okay, grandpa.”
He laugh and shake his head. He now sit up straight and put his hands on his legs while I lean upon crossing my legs. “The way you talk makes me want to kiss you so you could shut up.”
That made my eyes wide and surprisingly made me shut up… what’s with this man and why is my blood boiling so hard?
