“Ofcourse, we are Razor. What makes you think otherwise?” Safiya said laughing uneasily.
“Well, I guess I was wrong about you.” There was a long quiet at the other end for a moment. “Listen, I’ve got to tell you something real quick. I’m only doing this because I hate the guts of Helldog. I can’t stand him and this is my payback for how he hurt me that terrible night.” He paused and went on. “Well just so you know, We are attacking the town tonight.”
Safiya jerked her face to Caesar . Of course! He heard alright. His face had tightened into lines of anger and shock.
“Did you mean what you just said?” She asked huskily.
“Fuck, yeah!” Razor winced. “We are coming tonight. It’s gonna be a tough fight see, cause we’ve got another lieutenant. You remember Victor right? Sure you do. He’s back now. He’s the new lieutenant,”
Hearing all these, Caesar felt a murderous rage took hold of him and he swore loudly and slammed a ball fist into his open palms. Safiya gave him a look that says : Remember - I - told - you - so. Caesar stiffly mouthed to her - Ask - him - About - The - Plans. Safiya nodded and said;
“Look Razor, thanks for the heads up. I really appreciate it, brother. But what I need from you is this; What’s the plan? How do they plan to attack the town? Give me the layout.”
“Alright, this is the plan. We are attacking………” and just then, they heard the sound of muffled voices, rushing sounds of feet, noises, then Razor screamed. It was the scream of a man in serious pain.
Safiya nearly dropped the cellphone as his terrified voice struck against her ear drum. They heard a strange moaning sound and then an odd far way thud. The cellphone clicked off. Then a deafening silence followed.
“Hello? Hello? Hello?” Safiya whispered into the receiver, her voice uneasy. “Razor? Are you there?”
“They’ve killed him,” Caesar said in a soft voice, feeling the short hair on his neck rising. “They must have caught him ratting on them and they killed him before he could say any more,”
A worried expression appeared on Safiya’s face.
“I told you Victor will come for her!” She hissed like an injured snake. “Look now! He’s coming here. They are all coming here. You should have killed him when you had the chance! What are you going to do now?”
Caesar ’s face tightened with fury.
“What am I going to do? I’m going to stay here and fight. I’m not leaving my house. If Victor’s wants Selena, then he can come and get her! Here! I’m waiting,” and he took out his phone and called Hatton. The old man picked up instantly. “Are you listening?” Good. I’ve just got a tip about those werewolves. They are coming tonight. Call Hanks and round up the Fur Hunters. Hank knows the drill. He will know how to spread the boys out around the town. I’m sorry, Hatton. I can’t join us boys,” Hatton began to bitch about how it’s important for Caesar to join them. “Aw, shut up and listen to me, man! I’ve got to stay here. Victor is likely to show up here because of Selena. If that happens, I’ve got to be here when he comes. Get Hanks! He will fix you guys' hope. And good luck, Hatton. We all gonna need it” and he ended the call before the Sheriff could say anything.
“Just what the hell do you plan on doing?” Safiya asks, watching him closely.
“Just watch me!” Caesar said, quickly he dialed Dvorak’s number. When he picked it up, Caesar said to him, “Come to my room now.” and he dropped the phone into his pockets and began to prowl aimlessly around the room. Safiya continues to watch.
Few seconds later, they heard a light tap on the room door. Caesar opened the door at once. Dvorak stood there, a calm expression on his face.
“Come in, man,” Caesar said.
Dvorak hesitated, then he walked into the room. Immediately, his eyes settled on Safiya who sat on the bed. They both regarded themselves. Safiya gave him a cool look, while Dvorak only inclined his head at her and turned to look at Caesar.
“What’s going on sir?”
“Plenty, my friend,” Caesar said to him. “The werewolves are coming.”
Dvorak’s eyes widened. “This night?”’
“Yeah, we’ve got to prepare. There’s no time. That bastard Victor is coming for Selena. I’m damned sure of it. What I don’t know is whether he’s gonna come with some werewolves or not. Either we are, we just have to be ready, So I’m gonna get prepared and should too. Once I’m ready, I will call you. Tell Dutch and Weston to get ready. We’ve got company.”
A sudden gust of wind rattled the window. Then things began to happen. The sounds of shooting and howls of werewolves rolled round the room. Then an enormous thundering BLAM of sound and fury shook the house. Safiya gave a little scream as Caesar and Dvorak ran madly to the window side. Caesar flung the blinds open. In the far distance, they saw fiery flames of explosion from the WolfStopper. They could hear someone shouting orders feverishly. Heavy boots thudded as the Fur Hunters ran about taking up positions. The flames from the explosions sent a band of orange hue light across their grimed faces.
“They are here!” Dvorak said breathlessly.
Caesar shoved him away from the window side.
“Well, come on, go get prepared,” he growled. “Get Dutch and Weston too. I’ll join you shortly,”
Dvorak went quickly out of the room, moving surprisingly lightly for a man of his bulk. Caesar crossed the room to his closet and began to dress hastily. Safiya scrambled over to him. She held him.
“Caesar! you’ve got to be careful of Victor.” There was agitation in her voice.
Caesar shrugged her hands off, as he slid into his pants.
“Don’t fret! I will handle Victor. You just watch,”
“No! You don’t understand,” Safiya exclaimed. “Victor is a gutter fighter. You have to have a good plan to handle him. You can’t just take him on like that,”
“Let me be, woman! I say I will handle him. You don’t have to worry about anything. Just stay in this room when everything is over, I will come for you,” and he pushed past her and moved towards the door.
She ran frantically after him and grabbed his hands.
“I….might not see you again. Won’t you hold me for a while?” There was a pleading look in her eyes. “Won’t you kiss me?”
“What the hell's this? parting farewell? I’ve you lost your mind?” Caesar said violently, and he jerked his hands free. “For someone always acting so tough, you’ve suddenly gone soft. Stay here and don’t come out,” and he stepped out of the room and closed it.
Her face went white and stiff as she watched him go. Her cold fury sweeps over her. She struggled to control herself as rage welled up in the inside of her. He couldn’t even kiss me, she thought bitterly. He couldn’t even make love to me properly. Is this what I left my pack for? Is this what I left Jack? this? To be treated like a whore? She hit hard on her lower lips until she tasted blood. Don’t worry, you will pay for how you treated me tonight. I won’t forget this. Never! And just then a wild thought dropped into her mind. Why not? She thought, as a feeling of exhilaration began to move through her. If I’m going to make him pay for what he did to him then, I should start now.
She went to her closet. Her face hard, set and her hand impatient, she began to dress up. When she was done, she went to the room door, gently opening it. But she stood there, hesitating. Maybe she should think well about all this before starting anything?. Her mind fired back at her; he treated you like a dirty tramp. You shouldn’t let this slide. No woman who knows her worth will let this slide.
She stepped out of the room and closed the door gently. She regarded the length of the hallway thoughtfully. Marianna’s room must surely be in one of the rooms that lined up the hallway. She was certain of it. She began to make her way through the well lit passage, pausing at each door she came to, relying on her wolf-smell senses as she sniffed for the scent of a human, then moving on to the next door. She lucked out when she got to the door at the far end of the passage. She sniffed and a feminine smell hit her nostrils.
At that moment, the thought of going back to her room and putting an end to all this entered her head again. Then she thought she’d come this far, it would be very silly of her to back off her.
Smiling wickedly, she tapped rapidly on the door and waited.
The door jerked open and Marianna gaped at her. Seeing a strange girl standing right in front of her door was certainly a shock to her. She saw the whole thing in her flash. Her suspicion had been right along. This was the woman who she believed Caesar had holed up in his room all this while.
“What….the hell are you doing here?” She stammered Safiya gave her a sly smile.
“It’s nice to meet you too. Caesar told me a lot about you,”
Marianna had got her nerves back. Her face hardened.
“I don’t want you here. Your business with my brother is your business with him. Stay away from me,”
Safiya’s twisted into a fake grimace of disappointment.
“Oh, that’s too bad. I was thinking about me and you catching up on the good, old times. Can I come in?”
Marianna stood squarely in the doorway. She said in a hard voice.
“I don’t like the look of you and I don’t want you here. You just stay away from me.”
Still keeping a smile on her face, Safiya said;
“Why Anna? That ain’t the way to talk, see? One way of the other, we both have and share one thing in common; Caesar. That bastard has weaseled his way into our lives. We can’t do anything about it,” and putting menace in her voice, she said stiffly. “Now I want you to get inside real quick so we can have a good conversation and get this over with,” and saying this, she let out a growl; the growl of a wild wolf.
Marianna’s eyes opened very wide, and she went white under her nightdress. She took a frightened step back, Safiaya stepped in and shut the door.
“You..sounded….sounded?” Marianna stammered, her voice trembling.
“Yes, like a wolf,” Safiya completed for her. “Sit down bitch! I’ve got a lot to talk to you about,” and she shoved Marianna down onto the bed and began to talk.
