Emily's POV
It was a bright Saturday morning when I woke up. I wasn't sure what was the reason behind it, but I was feeling rather cheery today.
I did my morning routine and ate a bowl of cereal before going back up to my room.
I was happy and all, but then suddenly I remembered that it was Saturday and that meant school started in only two days.
"Ugh!" I groaned as I buried my face in the ridiculously soft pillow.
I had always hated school from the core of my heart. It was not like I didn't enjoy studying. Of course I did like to study but to study with a bunch of teenagers who had no interest in gaining knowledge whatsoever but rather sucking each other's faces out in the corridors sucked.
I mean come on, get a room.
I was always the loner in the school. No one liked to talk to me or befriend me. Not that I minded anyway. I never was never much of a socializing person myself.
But things were different before Christian. After he died, no one even bothered to even look at me.
Chris was our school's football team captain and he was always the popular guy in school.
The kind of guy girls drooled over and boys wished to be. But he was not the playboy type. He was always that sweet and charming guy who cared about everyone. In other words, he was an angel.
But he never dated. Not even a single time in life. Whenever I asked him he told me that he was waiting for the day when someone special would come. Someone worth it. But I guess that day was never written.
That was why he sometimes used to hang out with me and my best and only friend, Natalie in school.
Natalie Baker had been my only friend since kindergarten. We were pretty close to each other. She knew everything about me. She even knew about my parents and the way my dad treated me.
But in our freshmen year, her family decided to move to London. She was really upset. She told me that she didn't want to leave but I encouraged her and made her realize that she had a whole future ahead of her.
And one day the time came when she too left me. We were in contact for several months after she left but eventually she made new friends and forgot about me. I wouldn't blame her though, maybe if I were in her place, living the life of a normal teenager, I would've done the same.
And after that I didn't try to make new friends. I would just go to school, study and do whatever work they told us to and come back home. No one else bothered me. And I was kind of comfortable with that, to be honest.
I suddenly realized that I hadn't bought a phone yet. Now as I had a job and was financially able to afford it, so I had to buy it.
Ugh, now I got to go to the mall.
Great.
I decided to go to the mall tomorrow because it was Sunday and I had an off from work.
"Yeah that would work," I said to myself as I stumbled into the bathroom.
After a while I got ready for the work. I took the bus and reached the restaurant and went straight to the kitchen, got dressed and started doing my work.
After my shift ended I was pretty tired so I decided that before anyone decided to catch and interrogate me it was better if I escaped.
I tip toed outside and luckily I found no one in the corridor so I took the opportunity to run.
Just as I thought I was safe, a voice called my name from behind.
Of course I turned around with a fake smiled plastered on my face.
"Hi Aaron," I said through gritted teeth.
"Hey Emily, what’s up?"
"Nothing, just running home. Pretty tired, you know?"
Take the hint. Take the hint. Take the hint, damn it.
"I can drop you if you want."
Screw my luck.
"Nah, I'll be good."
"Oh c'mon, let's go," he said and took my hand and dragged me all the way to the parking lot.
"Hurry," he said and quickened his pace.
"Why?" I asked, slightly confused.
Like if he was in hurry why did he have to offer me a ride? I didn't get this boy.
"Just come on."
We reached his car and he opened the door for me to sit, like the gentleman he was.
I climbed inside and he shut the door running to the driver's side of the car.
"Don't you think Mr. Black is acting weird lately?" he asked, putting the seat belt on.
"Umm.....no?" I replied honestly. "And why would you ask that?"
"Nothing important. I just felt that these days whenever I'm near you or whenever I try talking to you he calls either me or you for some random reason."
"I didn't notice that."
"Yeah? Then maybe it's just my imagination," he chuckled.
"Anyways why are you in such a hurry?"
"I'm not in a hurry. I actually asked you to run because he just came down the stairs when we were exiting. So I thought that before he decided to stop us or ask you to go home with him, we should disappear."
"Okay..?"
I was utterly confused by his words. Like what the hell he was talking about? I never noticed William do something like that. Plus why in hell would he waste his time keeping tabs on us?
Aaron was just being paranoid.
"You want to stop in the way?" Aaron's voice broke my chain of thoughts.
"Nope."
"Okay. Wanna eat ice-cream though?" his eyes glimmered as he looked at me.
Ice-cream
I suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu and my palms started sweating. All the buried memories of that day came rushing to me and I started to get panicked. I felt like I was going to pass out any second now.
My vision blurred out for a few seconds but I quickly grasped the handle and shook myself to regain my composure.
Keep it together Emily!!
Just a few more minutes.
"Emily?"
"Y-yeah?"
"You're alright? You look pale all of a sudden."
"Yes I'm okay just please, drop me home."
"Alright then, we'll save ice-cream for some other day," he smiled.
I didn't argue. I just sat there, trying so hard not to break down. I felt extremely lightheaded.
His face, his eyes, his last words, everything came back to my mind.
I could hear his voice echoing in my ears. I didn't want it at that moment.
I had gotten over my fear of being in a car with so much trouble and I felt that fear coming back to me.
Haunting me.
Swallowing me whole.
We reached our house after what seemed like forever and Aaron was quick to climb out and come to my side to open the door.
He extended his hand for me to take and I reluctantly took it.
As I stood on my feet, my legs seem to give up because I stumbled but Aaron quickly got a hold of me and placed his hand on the small of my back.
"Are you sure you're okay? We can go see a doctor if—"
"I just need some rest, I'll be fine," I gave him a reassuring smile.
"Okay."
He walked me to my door and reluctantly let go of my hand but still stood there, very still.
What?
Did he expect me to invite you in?
I unlocked the door with the key and smiled at him once again, giving him the hint that his part was over here.
When he didn't seem to understand and just stood there with his hands in his pockets I got annoyed.
Go away now.
I wanted to yell at his face "Bye, Aaron," I finally said and all the color in his face drained.
He really expected me to call him in?
I mean it was actually rude not to but I had a mother, and I didn't have the slightest idea of how she was going to react to me bringing a boy to the house.
So yeah....I couldn't risk my reputation.
"Um...alright, then. Bye," he mumbled and turned on his heels.
I quickly went inside and locked the door behind me and ran to my room.
