Margaret lost her baby
Margaret lost her baby
Margaret's eyes fluttered open on the hospital bed. A blurry vision of the ceiling came into her view.
She closed her eyes and opened them again, this time the ceiling was clearer in her eyes.
Out of confusion, she looked around and realized she's laying on a hospital bed in her private hospital room.
What happened? Why is she here?
She managed to sit up and saw her maid laying on a chair in the hospital room. She's fast asleep.
"Grace" Margaret called.
Her maid quickly stood up from the chair she's sleeping on. She scratched her eyes and yawned, then searched around for who called her.
"Madam, you're awake. Thank God" she said.
"What happened to me? Why am I here?" Margaret asked.
"I heard you scream last night and ran into your room. You're bleeding and completely passed out" Grace replied.
Then Margaret suddenly remembered.
"My baby, what happened to my baby?" She asked in disbelief.
Grace was about to reply when the door suddenly opened and the doctor came in.
"Miss Steele, you're awake" the doctor said as he walked up to them.
"Yes doctor. I'm confused, what happened to me? Why am I here? I'm not sick, or am I? Hope my baby is safe?" Margaret asked at once.
"I'm sorry to inform you Miss Steele, but you just lost your baby. You had a miscarriage and the remains have been flushed from your womb" the doctor replied.
"Lo…. lost what?? A …a mis…miscarriage?" Margaret stuttered.
"I'm sorry, Miss Steele, but you went through a lot of stress and overthinking and that wasn't good for your baby. The alcohol you took also caused your miscarriage. You're not aware you should avoid alcohol during pregnancy?" The doctor said,
"Doctor, I don't understand what you're talking about. A miscarriage?? How can I lose my baby? My baby is still in my stomach. What the fuck are you talking about?" Margaret replied and her hands flew protectively to her stomach.
"I'm sorry, Miss Steele. We could run a scan to confirm that there's no baby in your womb anymore" the doctor said.
"No, no, no!" Margaret cried out.
"Don't tell me that, Doctor. My baby is still alive, my baby is still alive and kicking in my belly"
"I'm so sorry, Miss Steele, I'm glad you're awake. You'll need to spend the whole day in the hospital for a proper check up. You'll be discharged tomorrow or next" the doctor informed me.
He was about to walk away when Margaret gripped him hard on his lab coat.
"This can't be happening to me. I can't lose my baby like this, not now" she cried out. The tears were rolling down her cheeks.
"You should have saved my baby, you should have fucking saved my baby. Are you not a doctor? Your job is to fucking save lives!" She yelled.
"It's too late when you're brought in. Nothing could be done at that moment" the doctor replied.
Margaret let go of his coat and turned to face her maid.
"You should have brought me in sooner," she cried.
"I'm sorry ma'am" the maid apologized.
The doctor shook his head in pity and walked out of the room.
"No, no, no" Margaret screamed as she cried her heart out bitterly.
This shouldn't be happening to her! Not now! Her baby with Antonio is gone!
How will she get her man back??
"Not my baby, not my baby ... .I should have just died instead" she cried as she wrapped her arms around her stomach.
This is a child she hasn't seen but already madly in love with it. The fact that the man she loves the most in the world is the father of the baby made her love the child more.
And now both of them are gone! Both the father and the child, they're no more within her reach.
She had totally forgotten that she wasn't meant to take Alcohol, she just wanted to clear her mind from the thoughts of Gemma, the pink butterfly and now this happened.
"Pink butterfly, you fucking bitch, I curse you with everything in me. I hate you so much" she yelled out bitterly.
Her maid paced around the room worriedly as she didn't have the courage to comfort her madam.
She could only cry with her from afar.
Margaret cried till she didn't have the strength to cry anymore. Then she sat motionless on her bed, sulking.
Her maid stood some distance away from her, watching her every movement.
Suddenly, Margaret removed the drip from her arm and stood up from the bed.
"Where are you going, ma'am?" Her maid asked.
She kept mute and kept on walking out of the room in slow, calculated movements. Her maid trailed behind her.
Margaret kept on walking round the hospital in her slow, calculated movements, oblivious of whatever was going on around her. It was just her in her own space and world.
Then she got to the incubating room and stopped. In the room were babies in an incubator. She placed her fingers on the barrier between her and the babies, a glass.
A smile instantly lit up her face.
"That's my baby in there…..my baby is still alive" she said, still smiling hard.
"Excuse me, ma'am?" A surprised maid said.
"Grace, that's my baby in there. My baby is still alive, my baby is still alive" Margaret said and pointed at a baby in an incubator.
"That's not your baby, ma'am" The maid replied and burst out into fresh tears. Her heart was shattered at the condition of her madam.
Her madam didn't deserve to go through this pain.
"Why the fuck are you crying?" Margaret berated.
"Why the fuck is my baby in here? Get him out of there! Call the doctor! Get my baby out of this fucking room. I can't wait to hold my baby in my arms. My baby" she smiled and kept on hitting the glass hard as she tried to break the barrier stopping her from getting close to her "so called baby"
Her confused maid ran to call the doctor and within minutes, the doctor and some nurses were beside Margaret, trying to calm her down as she suddenly went hysterical and wild.
"Let me go, my baby is in there. I want to hold my baby" she cried as she struggled to free herself from the nurses' grip.
And when the baby started crying, it made her go mad.
"Look, my baby is crying. Why the fuck are you holding me back? Bring my baby to me" she yelled.
"That's not your baby. Your baby is gone, you had a miscarriage" the doctor said in frustration.
"What do you mean? What miscarriage? That's my baby in there" Margaret cried as she kept hitting the glass.
People were starting to gather and some were crying on her behalf.
"Take her back to her room" the doctor instructed the nurses.
"Yes doctor" they replied and began to lead the stubborn and wild Margaret to her room.
It wasn't an easy task as Margaret refused to go back to her room without her baby but the nurses patiently led her back to her room.
She was laid on the bed and was injected. She calmed down and slept off minutes later.
"Doctor, will she be fine?" Grace, her maid asked.
"Yes. She's finding it hard to believe what just happened. But she'll be better by the time she wakes up" the doctor replied.
"Alright, thank you doctor"
"She needs someone close to her to be by her side during this time. If you know anyone, please contact them. She needs all the love she can get now" the doctor said.
"Alright doctor"
"Call me when she wakes," he said and walked out of the room.
Grace stared at the sleeping form of her madam. She's sleeping peacefully now, but soon, she'll wake up to the reality that she just lost her child.
