MR JONES POV
"I promise to get you information about Gideon," I said to Thompson, my personal bodyguard and assistant, as he gazed directly at me in the dimly lit home office. His face was etched with suspicion.
"Paul is dead," he said.
"Who is dead? Who is Paul?" I asked swiftly.
"What I need you to do is get me everything you can on Gideon, not Paul," I instructed Thompson. "I want to know who he was, who he was involved with, and who might have wanted him dead."
Thompson nodded and quickly got to work, gathering as much information as possible on Gideon. Meanwhile, I couldn't shake the feeling that Gideon was more sinister than I had initially suspected.
As Thompson continued with the investigation, I stepped out of my office and received a package with the evidence that Paul had gathered labeled on it. The contents made my heart skip a beat as I opened it. My eyes widened in horror as I saw Paul's fingers, all five of them, neatly arranged in the box.
"Oh, who did this?" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
Thompson rushed into the room and approached me immediately, his face filled with concern. "What... what is this?" he stammered.
He raised his eyes to the door, but I called him back. "Come, no need to search for the person. Check the label on this box," I instructed, my eyes still filled with anger and my heart racing.
As I saw the name "Paul Graham" on the label, I knew that he was dead. A written note was placed beside the fingers, and I realized that there was only one person who would send such a message to me.
"There's only one person who wants me dead, and there's only one person who can send such a message," I explained to Thompson. "After he threatened me on the phone and I threatened him back, Mr Jones... this is severe and personal."
Thompson's face turned red with anger, and he clenched his fists continuously, as if ready to strangle Gideon if he were present. "This message is from Gideon, a twisted gift meant to intimidate and silence you. The fingers belong to Paul, your informant," I said.
Thompson's expression turned grim, and he nodded in understanding. We both knew that Gideon was a force to be reckoned with, and we needed to take action to protect ourselves.
My face didn't burn with rage and disgust. I felt a wave of nausea as I continued to stare at the finger. I knew I couldn't show weakness. I had to stay focused. "It's time to bring him down," I turned to Thomson, my voice low and even.
"We need to get this to forensics immediately. I want to send it to Mark. I want to know everything about this finger, from the DNA to the exact time of death."
Thompson nodded, his expression grim, and carefully placed the box to be processed. I knew that this was just the beginning of a long and bloody battle, but I was ready to take on Gideon and his twisted empire.
As I sat at my desk, staring at the empty box, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was in too deep. I needed to make sure that Judeth was out of Gideon's reach. His reach was long, and his methods were brutal. But I refused to back down. It was time to see justice served.
"Mr Jones, you can't let this slide," Thomson said. "This is an opportunity for us to strike him down. We need to locate his house and find a way to strike him before he does so. We need to make sure that he never repeats this again."
His suggestion was wise, but I knew that it wouldn't be easy. I needed to strategize and understand what Gideon was trying to do. I had many innocent people to protect, but he didn't have anyone to lose.
My mind was racing with thoughts of his brutality against Paul when my phone rang, piercing the air with its shrill and insistent tone. I picked it up, my voice cold and detached.
"Jones," I said, waiting for the caller to speak.
"I think my ears were deceiving or betraying me, Mr Jones," a voice said on the other end. "You should have stayed out of this. Now you're in up to your neck."
I recognized the voice from our last conversation. This was Gideon, and nobody else. I was certain of that.
"Gideon," I spoke calmly, trying not to show my anger.
He just gave a mocking laugh on the other end, sending a wave of anger through my body. Before I could unleash my anger on him, the phone went dead.
I knew that he was taunting me, trying to get under my skin. But I was ready to fight back. I would call him out, no matter the cost. The flame of determination was still burning within me.
My expression transformed from one of determination to a calculated calm. The phone call had sent a chill down my spine, but it also sparked a fire within me. I felt a sense of resolve wash over me, a determination to see this through to the end.
My eyes narrowed, and my jaw clenched as I thought about the gruesome gift Gideon had sent to me - the finger in a box. It was a brutal reminder of the stakes, but it also fueled my resolve. My mood shifted from one of outrage to a calm, collected sense of purpose. I knew that I couldn't back down now. I had to see this through, no matter the cost. I was doing this for my daughter.
I needed to call Mark right now. I called him, and he answered on the first ring. "Mark, there's a lot more going on than we initially expected," I said. "You won't believe what Gideon sent me - the fingers of our informant that Thompson has been working with."
Mark's tone on the other end was one of surprise, as he wasn't aware of my investigation. "Who is Paul, and who is Thompson?" he asked.
"Thompson is my personal bodyguard, and Paul is the one we've been working with," I explained. "He had evidence on Gideon that could be used against him, but now Gideon has found out and killed him. He sent his finger in a box to my office."
I could feel my anger and menace rising as I spoke. "We need to resolve this, Mark. We need to come up with a plan and resolve this once and for all if we want to stay alive. Gideon is a dangerous man, and he's not going to rest until we find a way to stop him."
Mark agreed. "You're right, Mr Jones. I know what needs to be done. But first, you need to send that finger for forensic analysis. I'll arrange for it to be received and processed."
"Yes, I've already asked Thompson to send it to you," I replied.
Mark also mentioned that he was aware of the nuclear power the diamond held and that he had taken steps to secure it. "I've taken Juliet to a safe house where nobody will be able to get to the diamond," he said before hanging up the phone.
As the sun set, casting a golden glow over the skyscrapers, my focus was on the shadows - the dark corners where Gideon's minions lurked. I knew that I was in for a fight, but I was ready. Mark was also ready. We had to bring Gideon down and expose the truth.
A sense of determination washed over me, and I felt a cold smile spread across my face. The game was on, and I was ready to play.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, my office was bathed in a warm, golden light, but the atmosphere was tense. The air was thick with anticipation. I stood and crossed my legs, taking a puff from my cigar, when Thomson walked in with a look of determination on his face.
"Sir, we've got something on Gideon's operation," he said. "It seems he's been using a shell company to launder money and fund his extracurricular activities."
My eyes narrowed, my mind racing with the implications. "Get me everything you can on this shell company," I instructed. "I want to know who the players are, how much money is involved, and where it's going."
Thomson nodded, his eyes locked on me. "I will get right on it, sir."
As Thomson left, my phone rang again. I picked it up, my voice cold and detached. The voice on the other end said, "You're getting close. You need to back off. You'll end up like Paul if you don't back off right now."
My grip on the phone tightened, my anger and frustration simmering just below the surface. "Who is this?" I demanded, but the line went dead.
This time, I called the number that had called me. "Who the hell are you, and why do you feel the need to make threats against my life?" I asked, my voice laced with anger.
The voice on the other end was calm and menacing. "Oh, I see you've forgotten my voice. We spoke just a few hours ago. I'm Gideon."
I knew I was getting close, and Gideon was getting desperate. I stood up, my eyes locked on the city below. I was ready to take the fight to Gideon.
"Where are you?" I asked, but he didn't reveal his location.
Gideon's voice was too calm for what he had done to me. "I'm in a hurry. I will make sure you pay for this. Just send me where you want us to meet, and we'll settle it man to man."
I was taken aback by his words, but I knew I had to stay focused. The game was on, and I was ready to play.
