Chapter 75 Chapter 75
As the so-called “Miss Ford,” she was barely able to give orders to the maids, let alone exert any influence over Claire and her mother.
Now that Claire was a popular celebrity and the main breadwinner for the Ford family, even her father had to give in to her.
But there was no way she would allow anyone else to occupy her mother's room.
That was her non-negotiable condition.
Caroline heard the work being done upstairs as soon as she entered the living room.
She looked up and saw a group of workers removing a dressing table from the bedroom.
When she realized it was her mother's dressing table, a wave of anger washed over her and she ran upstairs.
One of the maids had already informed Claire and Kenia Ruas as soon as Caroline entered the house.
“That little bitch is back?”
Kenia Ruas' expression darkened when she heard Caroline's name. She said with disgust:
“It must have been that old witch of a housekeeper who told her everything. Hmph, she sure acted fast.” That bitch doesn't even care about her own biological father, but she cares about her dead mother?
Claire smiled and said tenderly,
“She's already dead, what's the point?
Kenia frowned.
”That bitch must have come back to stop us. Her mother died so many years ago, what's the point of keeping this room empty? And her father really agreed to this arrangement. He must be crazy.
Claire smiled coldly.
“Anyway, she was his late wife. Maybe he was being sentimental. Even so, didn't he already give us the green light to do something in this room?
She continued arrogantly:
”Mom, do you think a dead person can beat us at this? Not even her daughter can beat me, let alone a dead woman! I want Caroline to see that I can take everything she loves away from her! She doesn't stand a chance against me!“
She added, venom in her voice:
”The man she loved, her mother's room, and even her position as Miss Ford of the Ford family—all of that will be mine one day!"
The maids nearby were not surprised.
The Ford family was now practically the empire of that mother and daughter.
Everyone who was still loyal to Caroline and her mother had already been dismissed.
The housekeeper was the only one left, simply because she was a distant relative of Mr. Ford.
“My daughter is so exceptional,” Kenia Ruas said proudly, “of course she deserves all the best the world has to offer. You will get all of that, dear.”
All of this is rightfully yours.
“If it weren't for the marriage contract, why would the Collins family be interested in Caroline? You and Edward are made for each other. Now that you two have made your relationship public and you're pregnant, it's time for our families to meet and talk about it.”
Upon hearing the words “carrying your child,” a strange expression appeared in Claire's eyes.
She looked at her flat stomach and caressed it, trying to hide her uneasy expression.
“Ma'am, Miss Ford is back,” one of the maids warned when she saw her come in furiously.
A moment ago, Kenia Ruas was smiling broadly. But the instant she saw Caroline, the smile disappeared.
Her face paled.
“Oh, so it's Miss Ford. You finally remembered you have a home, huh?” Kenia said sarcastically.
Caroline stopped in front of the two women.
She ignored the venom in her words and gave Claire a cutting look. Then she laughed contemptuously.
"Claire, I underestimated your shamelessness.
Isn't being a mistress enough? Do you need to keep humiliating yourself and making a fool of yourself like this?“
Claire's expression changed instantly.
She was about to explode, but when she saw Marcus Ford standing in the corner of the hallway, she quickly put on a sad face.
”Sister, how can you think that of me? I never wanted to come between you and Edward. Your breakup was your fault. Edward said you're always traveling for work and can only see him a few times a month. Your heart wasn't with him anymore, and he couldn't go on like that. That's why he broke up with you. I understand that you're hurt... but have you ever stopped to think why he broke up with you after so many years together, even though you were almost married? Sister, he doesn't love you anymore. Period. Face reality.
While Claire feigned innocence, her eyes sparkled with pure malice.
Behind them, some workers continued to remove furniture from the room.
Caroline felt her blood boil.
That was her mother's favorite painting.
"STOP THAT!
She ran to the movers, her voice trembling with rage.
“Put that back! Without my permission, no one touches anything in this room!”
The workers hesitated, confused. They looked at Kenia and Claire.
“Ma'am, this...”
“Don't listen to her,” Kenia said dismissively. “She lives on campus all year, she has no right to interfere with anything here. In this house, I'm in charge! Continue!”
“DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!”
Caroline stood in front of them, blocking the door.
“This is MY mother's room. No one but her has the right to take it away from here.”
Kenia laughed loudly.
“This house belongs to me and your father. I'm in charge of everything, including this room. Your father has already agreed to let Claire move in here. If you want to argue, go talk to him.”
She waved to the movers.
“Continue.”
At her command, the men pushed Caroline aside and continued removing the screen.
Caroline grabbed one of their arms.
“Stay where you are! You're not taking anything out of here!”
She glanced quickly at the door. Where were Nicholas's men?
If she was alone in there... she had already lost.
“Caroline, aren't you being too stubborn?” said Kenia, crossing her arms. "Claire is pregnant with Edward's child.
The psychic said she needs to stay in this room to have the baby safely. Otherwise, she could have a miscarriage. She's your sister. Even though you don't have the same mother, you're family. Are you trying to cause a miscarriage?
Caroline laughed, cold as ice.
“What happens to her has NOTHING to do with me. And as for the baby... a child conceived in such a filthy way is worthless.”
The growl that came from behind almost made the floor shake.
“CAROL! You've crossed the line!” Marcus Ford stepped forward, indignant. “How dare you talk to your sister like that?!”
Caroline stared at him, impassive.
Marcus continued, furious:
“Even if you fight, the child is innocent! He's your nephew! You're being cruel! I thought you would have changed while you were away... but you're worse! How could you?”
He began to cough heavily, leaning against the wall.
“Calm down, love, calm down,” Kenia said, patting his back. "You've just recovered.
You can't stress yourself out like this. If something happens to you, Claire and I will be devastated.
“Dad, take care of your health,” Claire said, holding his arm with feigned affection. “Mom and I depend on you. Don't wear yourself out like this...”
Marcus took a deep breath, looked at the two of them... and then stared at Caroline as if he were looking at a stranger.
