Chapter 40 Chapter 40
Caroline sighed, surprised by Nicholas Wolf's lethal charisma.
Since when had she seen Tania blush while talking to a boy?
Nicholas gave her a slight smile. “Sorry for the inconvenience.”
Tania blushed even more and, completely mesmerized, replied, “N-no, no problem... y-you're welcome.”
Before leaving, Nicholas gave Caroline's other roommates a polite look. “Today was a special situation, but I invite you to dinner another day.”
With that, he turned and left, carrying Caroline in his arms.
A few minutes later, the sound of sirens broke the silence—a group of police officers had arrived.
Jacob and his accomplices were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, while Soraya and Kate, in tears, were also taken away.
Suddenly, the dormitory fell silent, as if nothing had happened.
But everyone who witnessed it knew very well what had happened.
“Who was that man? He seemed so powerful...”
“Soraya thought Caroline had no one else to protect her. She ended up shooting herself in the foot.”
“I bow down before Caroline. The men she meets are becoming more and more impressive.”
Meanwhile, Nicholas walked calmly across campus, still carrying Caroline in his arms.
She struggled with embarrassment, but he didn't give in.
Curious glances multiplied wherever they went.
So ashamed, Caroline ended up hiding her face in his chest.
Nicholas' black shirt had a subtle and intense woody scent.
The scent mixed with the warmth of his body enveloped her completely, and when her ears touched his chest, she heard the steady, rhythmic sound of his heart—strong, constant, dominating.
It was as if his heart set the pace for hers.
Soon they arrived at the parking lot.
José, the driver, was waiting for them and bowed slightly. “Sir. Ma'am.”
Bending down, he opened the back door.
Nicholas got in with Caroline still in his arms, and as soon as the door closed, he held her close, enveloping her with his body.
“Nicholas, you...” Caroline began, trying to protest.
But she couldn't finish.
His kiss came without warning—hot, possessive, and intense.
She lost herself in the sensation, her body softening against his.
Up front, José started the car.
When he looked in the rearview mirror and saw the scene, he blushed immediately and, embarrassed, closed the shade.
As the car pulled away, José thought with a resigned sigh that, at this rate, the Wolf family would soon have new heirs.
In the back seat, Caroline was almost breathless.
The kiss was deep and commanding, and it made her tremble all over.
Her flushed face contrasted with the heat of the moment, and her delicate hands pounded weakly against his firm chest.
“N-Nicholas Wolf... let me go...” she murmured, her voice trembling.
But he only deepened the kiss—as if he wanted to engrave in her the fact that now, and forever, she was his.
Nicholas opened his eyes; his dark, intense eyes rested on the girl in his arms, her face still red from the kiss. Seeing that she was out of breath, he reluctantly ended the kiss.
Both of them were breathing unevenly as he held her warm cheeks. After a few breathless moments, she gradually caught her breath.
“Darling, tell me: did God prepare you especially for me?” Nicholas lifted her chin and looked deeply into her eyes. “Otherwise, why don't I feel repulsed by you?”
Why do I feel so relaxed and at peace when I'm with you? Why...
He caressed her tender face and murmured, as if thinking aloud: “Are you the type I've always liked? Was it meant to be that you would become my wife?”
This feeling seemed to go back to the moment they met.
Hearing this, Caroline's pale, sensitive ears turned a delicate red. He didn't hide his affection—he said it all frankly, opening his heart to her. It was a contrast to Edward: he had always been kind and restrained; he had never made her blush with bold words, nor enveloped her with impetuous kisses.
And, surprisingly, she didn't feel disgusted by it. On the contrary: Nicholas's embrace and kiss made her nervous, shy, her heart racing.
“Nicholas, can you let me go, please?” Caroline asked, cowering in his arms, her voice thin and trembling like that of a vulnerable little girl.
His reaction was to intensify his desire to tease her even more. He kissed her again, this time with a quick peck before pulling back, letting out a low, sensual chuckle. “Sorry, no.”
Caroline was silent. When she looked up, there was cloudiness and a touch of bitterness in her eyes—she looked fragile and tiny.
“Sweetheart.” Nicholas squeezed her chin and sighed, his eyes clouded with restrained desire. “Don't look at me like that. Otherwise, I'll tease you again.”
Caroline remained silent.
“Don't be like that, okay?” Nicholas asked, an amused smile curving his lips.
Caroline felt her irritation rising. His provocative smile only made her angrier. She bit her lip and stared at him firmly. “Don't touch me however you want again!”
He always kissed her until she was breathless, and she just couldn't handle such intense, desire-filled kisses.
Nicholas let out a low laugh and ran his hand through his hair, feigning a distressed expression. “But when I see you, all I want to do is hold you, kiss you, and touch you. Tell me, what can I do?”
Caroline was speechless.
“Carol...” He leaned toward her face, and his warm lips lightly brushed her earlobes. His deep voice sounded hoarse and provocative. “I have to blame you for being so attractive to me. I just can't control myself around you. I know you're not used to our relationship yet, but understand: we are already husband and wife. You are my wife, the woman I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. Who else would I be affectionate with? Besides, I do it because I like you.”
Caroline's cheeks flushed. He looked at her and chuckled again. “Don't you like seeing me like this? But you didn't seem to resist the kiss just now.”
Caroline blushed even more and looked away, not knowing how to respond.
“But you can't act like this in every situation,” she finally murmured, biting her lip.
Nicholas arched his eyebrows, a smile playing on his lips. “Oh, I see. So you don't want me to be like this here? Should we go somewhere else?”
She blinked, speechless.
That wasn't what she meant at all!
He was deliberately twisting everything—and she knew it.
