Chapter 132 Chapter 132
“Caroline, we're already married. I've met your family, dealt with your sister and her problems. But you've never met mine. I want to bring you into my world.”
Caroline's nervousness exploded.
“See... see your family today?” She bit her lower lip anxiously. “But I'm not ready!”
Although she was married on paper, she didn't want to face the “Royal Family” so soon. In fact, she preferred to live in the safe bubble they had created.
The idea of entering the Wolf mansion terrified her, as she watched dramas on TV and knew how super-rich families worked: demanding mothers-in-law, snobbish relatives, silent judgments about her humble origins, and the Wolf family was at the top of the social pyramid. They were powerful, influential, and probably difficult to deal with.
Nicholas treated her like a princess, but what about his parents? Would they accept her? Or would they see her as an opportunist?
“Don't worry. You don't need to be afraid.” Noticing the tension in her body, Nicholas pulled her closer, and his voice became a deep, comforting whisper, designed to dispel any fears. “With me around, no one can touch you. No one will dare look at you askance.”
He kissed her forehead.
“Besides, sweetheart, you're wonderful. My family is sure to like you. How could they not?”
“But...”
“Caroline, what are you worried about?” Nicholas lifted her chin, forcing her to look at him. His eyes overflowed with tenderness. “Are you afraid you won't get along with them? Are you afraid they'll make things difficult for you because of your background?”
Caroline bit her lip and remained silent, but her eyes confirmed everything, and Nicholas sighed, understanding her insecurity perfectly. He knew his world could be cruel, but he would be her shield.
“Don't be afraid.” Nicholas placed his large, warm hand on top of her head and looked down, the reflection of Caroline's delicate face filling his deep, dark eyes. “With me by your side, no one will ever dare mistreat you.” His promise was solemn, vibrating in the silent air of the car. “If you feel uncomfortable for even a second, we'll leave immediately. I promise.”
He paused, caressing her cheek with his thumb.
"Caroline, you are my wife. I value you above all else, which is why I want to introduce you to my parents as soon as possible. I don't just want me to like you; I want my whole world to know who you are and respect you." The man's voice was soft, persuasive, and laden with a patience rare for someone so powerful.
Faced with such devotion, Caroline didn't have the strength to refuse.
Despite the apprehension that gripped her heart, she nodded slowly.
She knew she would have to go home with him sooner or later. There was no escaping her destiny of becoming Mrs. Wolf. And, as he said, he had already dealt with her family's problems; it would be unfair to refuse to meet his.
Nicholas flashed a gentle, devastating smile. That smile made Caroline's heart skip a beat.
“Great.” He picked up his cell phone. “Then I'll ask José to take Sara home first, and I'll call another driver to come pick us up.”
“Brother-in-law, you don't have to!” Sara, who was listening to the conversation in the front seat, quickly intervened. “José should take you and my sister. I left school a while ago, and I need to stop by to pick up a few things and organize my move. The school is close by, I can easily take a taxi.”
“Okay. Do you have money for the taxi?” Nicholas pondered for a moment and nodded.
“I...” Sara paused, because in the rush and excitement of the day, she realized she had forgotten her wallet, and was about to ask her sister to lend her a hundred reais, when Nicholas took an elegant leather wallet out of his jacket pocket.
He opened it, revealing a row of exclusive cards, and pulled out a heavy, matte black card with no limit and handed it to Sara.
“There's a little money here for expenses. You can use it. If you need anything for school or for yourself, just buy it. Don't try to help me save money, Sara.”
Sara was speechless, staring at the object, and realizing she was frozen, Nicholas took her hand and placed the card in her palm, closing her fingers around it.
“Take it. Your sister has her allowance, this is for you. The PIN is six times the number five.”
...
Minutes later, Sara got out of the car, still stunned.
The Rolls-Royce drove away, taking her sister into the world of high society, and Sara stood on the sidewalk, staring at the black card in her hand.
Could this be... the legendary unlimited “Black Card” that appeared in movies?
She had glimpsed her brother-in-law's wallet, and it was filled with cards of that caliber. So her brother-in-law wasn't just rich. He was powerful.
There was a bank branch across the street. Sara's curiosity burned stronger than her need to catch a taxi. She had to know.
She ran to the bank, entered the ATM area, and with trembling hands, inserted the card.
She typed in the simple password: 555555.
She clicked on “Check Balance.”
The screen processed for a second, and then the numbers appeared.
Sara stopped breathing.
Her eyes widened so much that they hurt. She had to hold on to the machine to keep from falling backward.
A long, almost endless string of zeros glowed on the screen.
Tens of millions.
This... this was what her brother-in-law called “a little money for expenses”?!
His concept of “pocket money” was equivalent to a lottery jackpot!
“My God...” Sara whispered, her voice failing.
Her brother-in-law had just given her a card with enough money to buy an island, as if it were pocket money.
Sara's heart was racing, a mixture of shock and euphoria.
Now she was absolutely sure. Her sister hadn't just married a successful man. She had married a financial emperor.
Edward? The Cassano family?
Compared to Nicholas Wolf, they looked like beggars. Sara smiled at the ATM screen. Her sister was definitely in good hands.
