Chapter 15
Logan’s POV
Logan watched Ava as they went around the mansion. This woman had one of the most expressionless faces he had ever seen. She barely let anything appear on her face. He knew that by how much he had been watching her to see her reaction to the mansion. But she killed any emotion before it fully appeared on her face. Her words were carefully chosen, and she didn’t beat around the bush.
It got Logan thinking. What if she truly were a spy? It took years of experience to perfection such an empty expression. Maybe with all the missions she had been on, she had gotten that experience. Logan didn’t know what to think and he absolutely abhorred it. This was not a situation that happened too often. He was extremely good at reading people, so this was a first.
Since he could not figure out how she felt through the emotions parading on her face, Logan watched her body language. It was clear that Ava had no desire to be here, and she wanted to get done with this as soon as possible. There was no chance of that happening. Even if she got done with today, she was still going to move in with him. And that was no matter how she felt.
“Are we done? Can I leave now?” she asked in a tiny voice.
Logan thought of it. But he dismissed the idea from my head. She was going to stay here. “Have lunch with me.”
He could see how distasteful the idea sounded to Ava and how much she wanted to refuse. So he was shocked when she hesitated for a moment then nodded her head.
“You’re complying. Nice to know that could actually happen.”
Logan’s goal was to provoke this woman. And by how tight her fists were, he could say he had succeeded. If you asked him, Logan could not tell you his exact reason for provoking Ava. All he knew was, it gave him some sort of primal satisfaction.
Logan led Ava to one of the dining rooms and they sat opposite each other. Logan couldn’t say why but he wanted to start off a conversation. This woman looked like she had a lot of fire that she was hiding beneath an icy exterior. And he wanted to melt that ice. It was clear that it was not going to possible for that day with how closed off she looked.
“Is this how you’re going to be when you move in?” Logan asked, sitting back and crossing his legs. Silence usually didn’t bother him. So why now? Why did he want to make conversation so bad?
“When I move in? How are you sure I’m going to move in, in the first place?” Ava asked, bringing out of that fire that Logan so desperately wanted to see.
He chuckled. “I thought we had moved past this debate already? You coming here to see the mansion clearly indicates that you’re going to move in with me. It’s pointless going back on topics we’ve already concluded.”
Ava was fuming. “I don’t know what conclusions you and I came to. But let me tell you one thing. I will do whatever I want. You’re not the boss of me. The fact that I’m carrying your baby doesn’t mean a thing. If I decide I am not comfortable here, I won’t move in. and nothing you do will change my mind. Get that one thing clear.”
Logan chuckled. He had gotten what he wanted. That fire he loved seeing. He didn’t mind her words because one thing he knew was, if she had decided to come and check the mansion out, she was going to move in with him.
“The chef made pasta, I hope you’re okay with that,” Logan said, completely disregarding whatever Ava had just said. It was clear that it was getting the little woman mad.
“And if I’m not okay with it? What’s going to happen? Since the chef already ‘made pasta’”
“He’s going to make another meal for you,” Logan said simply.
That was the last thing they said for a few moments then Ava got this uncomfortable look on her face, like she was in pain. Logan didn’t think. He stood and rushed to her side.
“What’s wrong?” he asked urgently, when the agony on Ava’s face got worse.
“I don’t know,” she moaned out. “But it hurts.”
“Come. Let’s take you to the bedroom so you lay down while I call the doctor, okay?”
Ava nodded silently and stood.
What was on her chair gave Logan the worst scare of his entire life. There was blood all over the chair. It had soaked Ava’s dress and gone past it. Both of them looked at each other in horror.
“The baby…” Logan whispered.
Their baby…
