Chapter 171 A happy ending
Chapter 171: A Happy Ending
“Xander, how is it that you applied for a job at St. Augustine. What if I wasn't going to remain in Northbridge?” Golden asked.
“Actually, a few months ago I was with some of your professors and they were deliberating about what to. Your results were outstanding and they wanted to do something for you.
They came up with the idea of giving you a job in the university and also at the hospital. And since they had no idea we were dating they asked my opinion.” Xander paused and tucked a loose strand of hair behind Gigi's ear.
“I swelled with pride when I heard them talking about my girl, so when they asked for my opinion I of course told them it was an amazing idea.
I know you have big dreams and Northbridge is a good place to start your career.
I immediately applied to St Augustine after that. I thought of remaining at St. Catherine, I was offered a longer stay but I figured it was best to apply elsewhere since you might be staying back.”
Golden couldn't help the tears that began flowing from her eyes. Xander had already decided to stay back months ago.
Just because he thought she would be staying back in Northbridge, he turned down a job offer just so she could be comfortable at work.
He got another job within Northbridge so he could be with her. He had continuously been putting her first and kept showing her how much he loved her.
“Don't cry Princess. You earned everything on your own, I just gave my two cents. They already made a decision and all I did was validate that decision.” Xander said gently and used a tissue to clean Gigi's tears.
“How about we celebrate instead. You got a job even before you graduated, and I also got a new job too.” Xander said.
Golden smiled and picked up her wine glass. “To us. Cheers to a new chapter we are about to begin.” She clinked her glass with Xander's.
“Thanks for always putting me first. I love you so much Alexander José Mendez.”
A few days later, everyone gathered to celebrate Golden's Induction. Varney, Alex, Fab, and even Linda were around.
They went out later that evening to a restaurant for the celebratory dinner. There, Golden told them of her offer and that she had decided to remain in Northbridge to start up her career.
They were all excited for her and congratulated her. Who would have thought that one scholarship letter about five years ago would alter her life in so many ways?
While the dinner was ongoing, Xander stood up from his seat and went in front of Golden on one knee.
Everyone was shocked. They didn't see it coming. Golden gasped and immediately became teary.
“From the first day I set my eyes on you, I felt a bolt of lightning hit my heart and I knew immediately that I was in trouble.
I fell hopelessly in love with you. These past few years being with you has been the best years of my life.” Xander paused and cleaned his forehead.
He had been planning this proposal for months, but he was still agitated.
“You are doing well doc.” Fab said, while recording the proposal.
“You make it easy to love you Gigi. You are about to begin a new chapter of your life. If you will, can you please let me be a part of this new chapter, not as your boyfriend but as your husband?
Golden Stella-Marie Nixon, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?” Xander asked, opening the ring box to reveal a diamond ring with a ruby stone on it.
Golden tried to keep her tears at bay and not ruin her makeup. She knew Xander loved her and she definitely was dating him hoping to marry him someday if he asked, but she didn't think it would happen this soon.
When she saw him go on one knee, her heart stopped for a second and began to beat fast. Later or now, what difference did it make?
She loved him and that was all that mattered. “When?” she asked, finally letting her tears flow.
“Anytime you want my love, as long as you say yes.” Xander said, still waiting for her answer.
“Then can we have the wedding the first Saturday of next month? I don't want anything elaborate. Just close family and friends.” Golden asked.
“Yes Princess. Whatever you want. So is that a yes?”
“Yes I will marry you Alexander José Mendez. I will be a fool not to.”
Xander put the ring on her finger, he stood, pulled her up and gave her a deep kiss.
“It's official. We have a wedding to plan in two weeks.” Alex said excitedly. “Way to go Gigi. We send you to Northbridge to get a degree and then you get not just the degree, but a job and a husband.”
She pulled her best friend in for a hug. “I'm so happy for you baby. Congratulations.”
“Thanks Alex. You know you are the maid of honor right?” Gigi asked smiling as she broke the hug and went straight into Varney's opened arms.
“Heck yeah. Who else would it be if not me?” Alex said smiling.
They spent the rest of the dinner in high spirit. They tried to put together some details for the wedding.
Golden even asked Linda to be one of her bridesmaids. She had earned her place as her friend and Linda was delighted and honored that Golden asked her.
That night, Golden and Xander returned home. The minute they entered the door, Golden pushed Xander against the door.
She had become bolder and more confident and also took the initiative in their relationship.
“You took me by surprise this evening Dr. Mendez. I had no idea you were going to propose.” She said as she began to kiss him.
“Well what can I say, you aren't the only one who knows how to give surprises Dr. Mrs. Mendez.
Gosh I can't wait to call you that.” Xander said gently grabbing Golden and pulling her closer and deepening the kiss.
“Why don't we go upstairs and celebrate our engagement properly.” Xander gently carried Golden in a bridal style.
They went upstairs and carefully undressed each other. Their eyes both burning with love.
They made passionate love. Although it wasn't the first time they were making love, it felt different this time.
It felt like they were making a commitment to each other, knowing fully well that a new chapter was about to begin.
And in that moment, they both knew that there was no place else they would rather be. They had finally found home, not in a place, but in each other...
