Chapter 121 Exam day
Chapter 121: Exam Day
Exam day finally arrived and all the students slowly walked to the exam hall when the heard the bell.
Tension was clearly written on their faces and some students talked to themselves, trying to remember everything they had read.
As they approached the hall, the students were expected to lock up their belongings in the lockers by the exam hall and only go in with their writing materials.
Linda approached Golden and her friends by the locker. “Well if it isn't the famous bad boy, fatty, nerd, and barbie of OCU medical department.” She said with a snare as she put her purse into a locker.
“Hello to you too Curella. I see that you had time to put on full makeup. If it isn't for the fact that you are standing here, I would have thought you were going for a club appearance.” Alex responded.
“Actually Alex, I take it as a compliment. My golden rule is ‘never to be caught unfresh’. Anyways, good luck suckers.
With that, Linda entered into the exam hall, stopped to be searched, collected her answer sheet, question paper, and went straight to her seat.
Soon everyone was seated and the exam began. The students were well spaced out to avoid talking during the exams.
The first paper was divided into two. Paper 1 took about 2 1/2 hours to write. They were given a 30 minutes bathroom break before they went in for Paper 2 which took another 2 1/2 hours.
By the time they finally came out from the first paper, the students looked drained.
They sluggishly dragged themselves to the cafeteria to eat and rest before the next paper.
They had an hour break before they would go into the hall for the second paper.
Golden was the last to join her friends at the cafeteria. They had already ordered something for her and we're all eating when she finally showed up.
“Prof Nixon, you finally decided to grace us with your presence.” Alex said as she took a fork full of her salad.
“Gigi had to give the lecturers marking scheme that's why she finished last.” Fab said continuing the teasing from where Alex stopped.
Allan stood up and pulled out a chair for Golden to seat.
“Thanks babe.” Golden said with a smile before sitting down.
“Well I am not a fast writer like you guys and I like to take my time to answer every question.
Besides, those exam questions weren't straightforward and they required careful thinking and analysis.
And who said I was the last? I left Linda in the hall.” Golden said as she took a bite of her burger.
“Are you sure Curella knows what she's writing, or is it possible she forgot what she read and just needed time to remember?” Alex asked.
“Do not underestimate Linda. She's quite good, and with Gigi around, trust me when I say she definitely knows what she is doing.
She would stop at nothing to beat Gigi. So if Gigi doesn't stand up, she wouldn't either.” Allan said.
“He's right you know. I gave up trying to compete for valedictorian right after the first year. Only one person gets it anyways.
And with little Miss Nixon topping the class, I'm fine graduating with distinction.
I'm afraid Linda will fight Gigi tooth and nail for valedictorian.” Fab said nonchalantly.
“I heard she was the IT Girl in high school until you transferred to her school and you beat her to become valedictorian.” Alex said, looking at Golden.
“It's not like I did it on purpose. I had been homeschooled most of my life and that was the first time I was ever really in a school environment.
And trust me, Linda gave me hell. I didn't have any friends so I just focused on studying.” Golden said, a little darkness flashing through her eyes as she removed the past.
Allan gently rubbed her hand to comfort her and pull her back from the past.
“Well be careful, she's out for your crown.” He said.
“I would like to see her try. I would make her pay for all the hell she gave me in senior high and she still continues to give me till this day.
As long as we are in the same school and the same department, I will make sure she never gets to be valedictorian.” Golden said with a bit of power.
“Wow! Hello-o who are you and what have you done with my bestie?” Alex said with elation.
“I like this powerful Golden, can we please keep her?” Fab said smiling.
“Right? She's giving ‘mess with me at your own risk ’ vibes.” Alex said agreeing with Fab.
The bell rang, signaling the time for the next paper. It was 4 pm and it was time to go in for the next paper.
Even after an hour break, the students were still tired and dragged their feet to the exam hall.
The first paper started and it was very difficult. It was a Pharmacology exam and even though it was a multiple choice question exam, there were a lot of confusing questions.
The confusion was general and the students had 2 1/2 hours to answer 150 objective questions.
By the time the paper was done, Golden rushed to the restroom to relieve herself.
While in the restroom, she heard someone sobbing from the next stall. She looked under her stall and saw Linda's black boots.
She wanted to mind her business but something prompted her to talk to her.
“Are you okay Linda?” She asked, not really expecting her to answer.
She figured that she was crying because of the exam. It was tough even for her but she wasn't going to beat herself up for it.
“Look, don't beat yourself over the exam. It's just one part, you still have part 2 to write.” Golden said when Linda didn't respond.
“What do you care Nixon? It was probably a walk in the park for you. You don't have to pretend to feel sorry for me.” Linda said in between sobs with a biting tone.
“Why do you think I had it easier? I also struggled with the exam but I'm not going to shut myself in a bathroom stall and bawl my eyes out.
You win some, you lose some. Such is life. Now you can decide to stay locked up in here and cry till it's time for the next paper,
Or you put yourself together and come out and continue competing with me.
One thing you should know though, I wouldn't pity you just because you cried in the bathroom because you wouldn't pity me either. So the choice is yours.
Golden left the stall after saying her piece and went to wash her hands.
Linda came out too to wash her hands and fix her makeup. She turned to Golden and said: “I still don't like you Nixon.” but she had an appreciative gaze.
Golden nodded. She acknowledged Linda's unspoken thanks. “The feeling is mutual Miller. Good luck in the next paper.”
With that, she walked out of the restroom.
